Chapter 700: Competing in Medicine with Layla

“Not going to make it?”
Flynn’s heart skipped a beat.
“That’s right. Skin and bones, hasn’t eaten a bite of food, surviving on medicinal liquids, incontinent, unable to speak.”
“Two days at most,” Arthur Gordon confirmed grimly.
Hearing this, Flynn frowned deeply and sighed. “No wonder Rose is so stubborn, so single-minded. She just won’t budge.”
“If Kevin Sharp is in this state, how could she possibly be any better?”
“Assign someone to take care of him. Use the best medicine available.”
“I’ve grown a Lumin Blossom in Demon Island Prison. Harvest it and use it on Kevin Sharp. It might buy him some more time.”
Kevin Sharp blamed himself for not taking care of Tinley Stevens, which ultimately led to her suicide.
He was entirely consumed by a death wish-beyond even the help of gods.
Day by day, hour by hour, his life was slipping away.
Flynn could only hope Kevin Sharp would hold on long enough to see the Sharp Group achieve total victory.
After all, most of what Rose was doing now was for her father’s sake.
If Kevin Sharp didn’t survive to see the downfall of their enemies, it would leave Rose with a lifelong regret.
And if that regret drove her down a dark path, it would be a disaster.
Thinking this, Flynn shook his head. This father and daughter pair was truly a handful.
“Lumin Blossom?” Arthur Gordon was stunned. “That’s a divine-grade medicinal herb! Using it on a dying man… isn’t it too much?”
“It’s fine. Use it,” Flynn replied with a calm indifference.
Arthur Gordon couldn’t help but gasp.
Lumin Blossom had incredible effects-prolonging life, strengthening bones, and rejuvenating the body. It was a critical ingredient in many ancient formulas and worth a fortune.
For an ordinary person, consuming Lumin Blossom could extend their lifespan by fifteen years, and it even had miraculous effects on improving one’s cultivation potential.
A few years ago, even Nate Black’s daughter couldn’t get her hands on it when she asked Flynn for it. And now, he was offering it to a dying man?
Even so, for someone like Kevin Sharp, who was determined to die, the herb would merely extend his life force by another five days, at most. It seemed unnecessary.
Clearly, the King of the Underworld was doing this purely for Kevin Sharp’s daughter, Rose.
Arthur Gordon thought to himself, Rose must be deeply cherished by the King of the Underworld. What incredible luck she has! Even Lyra Whitaker couldn’t receive this kind of favor!
After hanging up the phone, Flynn sighed and massaged his temples.
“What’s wrong?” Scarlet asked with concern.
Flynn shook his head, a trace of helplessness in his expression. “Kevin Sharp doesn’t have much time left. Whether he’ll live to see the day of total victory is uncertain.”
Flynn had tried persuading Kevin Sharp back in Demon Island Prison. He had urged him to live for his daughter’s sake, among other things.
But the love between Kevin Sharp and Tinley Stevens had been too deep.
Tinley Stevens’ death had dealt Kevin Sharp a devastating blow.
He couldn’t accept it.
He was consumed with guilt.
Kevin Sharp believed that if he hadn’t been so busy with business all the time, if he had paid more attention to Tinley Stevens, none of this would have happened.
Kevin Sharp had even been by her side when she jumped to her death. If he had noticed the signs earlier, things would never have come to this.
What made the situation worse was that Flynn had hidden the truth from Rose when he last visited her. He’d told her that Kevin Sharp was fine, fearing she might act irrationally upon learning the truth.
If news of Kevin Sharp’s death reached her, Rose would undoubtedly take her anger out on Flynn.
It was giving him a headache.
Scarlet sighed. “Ms. Sharp has already let go of the past. It’s a shame Kevin Sharp still couldn’t move on.”
“Some things are beyond human control,” Flynn said, nodding.
“All we can do is hope Kevin Sharp lives a little longer.”
The Koenigsegg slowly pulled up at the bus stop.
Rose was waiting there for Harriet Hamilton to pick her up.
Flynn was about to greet her and leave when Rose called out to him.
“I just got a call from Mr. Richardson. Niarak, as Ostrad’s Healer’s Haven, has also developed a new scenic spot at Ponocord Bay.”
“The province wants to boost Niarak’s economy and plans to promote the Healer’s Haven title.”
“They’re looking to select a star pharmaceutical company from Niarak.”
“Currently, the two most prominent names are Lilia’s Dragon Gate Group and our Sharp Group.”
“Mr. Richardson suggested holding a competition to determine the winner. The victorious company will represent Niarak in large-scale promotions.”
“This will boost corporate exposure and attract investment from outside the province.”
Flynn pondered this for a moment, then nodded. “What kind of competition?”
The Sharp Group now had a net worth of $50 billion, far surpassing the Dragon Gate Group. Still, for the sake of future growth, this opportunity was worth fighting for.
The goal was to grow bigger and stronger, to expand nationwide and even globally.
“It’s a test of the research departments’ strength.”
“A pharmaceutical company’s R&D capability reflects its health as a business.”
“Each side will choose a representative from their R&D team to tackle a challenging medical case in a public competition.”
“Katrina Richardson?” Flynn raised an eyebrow.
The Sharp Group’s top medical talent was Katrina Richardson.
Flynn had taught her a great deal himself.
That girl was no longer the arrogant, self-absorbed daughter of Mr. Richardson she once had been. She had grown more composed and eager to learn.
The research department was the lifeline of any pharmaceutical company. Whoever had the stronger team demonstrated greater potential and vitality.
Flynn thought Mr. Richardson’s idea was a good one.
“Are you sure?” Rose frowned, looking Flynn in the eye. She spoke calmly, “The Dragon Gate Group’s representative is Layla.”
“Layla?” Flynn was taken aback before letting out a cold laugh. “Since when is Layla part of the Dragon Gate Group’s R&D department?”
“She’s technically listed as a member. That’s all it takes,” Rose replied nonchalantly.
“Seriously? That’s how they’re playing this?” Flynn chuckled bitterly. “It seems Lilia is taking this competition very seriously.”
“Does Ms. Sharp want me to participate?” he asked.
Rose smiled faintly. “Who else but you?”
“Fine,” Flynn said with a wry smile, agreeing to her request.
Clearly, Rose had figured out his thoughts. She knew Flynn was eager to put Layla in her place.
Flynn didn’t mind stepping in. It was a small matter for him, after all.
And as for Lilia, Flynn couldn’t wait to see her humbled.
At that moment, a Volkswagen pulled up by the roadside, and Harriet Hamilton quickly stepped out.
“Ms. Sharp, I’m here.”
Harriet had driven over as soon as Rose called her.
Flynn, however, frowned slightly, a trace of suspicion in his voice as he asked, “Harriet, didn’t you use the Elixir of Vigor I gave you?”
The Elixir of Vigor had incredible effects on skincare, yet Harriet’s skin didn’t look as radiant as it should. The acne marks from yesterday were still visible.
Moreover, the Elixir of Vigor had a distinct, pleasant fragrance that Flynn didn’t detect.
Harriet froze for a moment, caught off guard by the question. Avoiding his gaze, she stammered, “Oh, um, I haven’t had the chance to use it yet.”
In truth, after the birthday banquet, Maisie Carlisle had snatched the Elixir of Vigor from her.
She didn’t dare tell Flynn the truth.
Knowing Flynn’s personality, he would undoubtedly confront Maisie Carlisle to get it back.
Flynn had already made an enemy of Lysander King. If the conflict escalated further, things could spiral out of control.
Harriet herself wouldn’t be able to save him then.
Lysander King’s connections were too terrifying. Harriet couldn’t let Flynn take that risk…
