Wen woke up at three o’clock in the morning. She remembered what she said to Rebecca last night: she would leave them in peace, even though she was hesitant and wasn’t sure if it was the right choice.
For almost ten years, she and Kwan have been inseparable, but she’s not blaming Rebecca for everything. Kwan always teased her for being single and for being a single bunny girl because she always wore that bunny-ear-like hairband.
She also teased him for being a one-eyed monster and for always winking and getting annoyed. But she didn’t expect that all those things would only become memories. She didn’t expect that after all the dangers they’d been through.
“I know that Rebecca would take good care of him when I’m gone, but I’m not sure if Rebecca’s good enough to stay with him if she knew his history,” Wen soliloquised while fixing her bed.
Kwan is a serial killer, or appropriately, a hitman, who is paid to kill someone. He has the talent to spy on his target and finish his task without being caught, but sometimes his work isn’t that clean, and he needs a sidekick to wipe up his clutter.
He was merciless with his target, until one day he realized that he had fallen in love with someone he needed to kill. That day was also the day he started to change.
As she packed her things up, Wen remembered the time when Kwan was covered with wounds. There were a lot of men who tried to shoot him, but he didn’t even ask for help until he could barely move.
Wen received his call at that time. She was so worried hearing his voice on the line, screaming silently in pain, that she hurriedly came to help him from Brein Loi’s men.
“What a stubborn man. I already told you to call me if you need help; now look what happened,” Wen scolded like a mother as she helped Kwan stand up and carry him towards her car.
“I’m not accepting help from anyone,” Kwan replied stubbornly, even though he was almost running out of blood.
“What if I just drop you here? Perhaps you still don’t need anyone’s help? What if you got killed? Would you still be stubborn?” Tears were forming inside Wen’s eyes while she said those words.
Despite his pitiable condition, Kwan still managed to smirk at his friend, who looked so worried about him. He smiled as he was amazed at the way she fought those men like a professional assassin, but he wanted to show her that he was better.
“You’re so funny, Wen. You’re not just a single bunny girl, but you’re also an annoying, worrisome kitten,” Kwan teased.
“If I kicked your ass, would you still say that?” Wen replied in her annoyed manner as she dropped him inside her car and wiped her tears. “You’re always making me worry; I’m getting tired of stress.”
“Well, it’s not my fault if you look old already. It’s you who always stress yourself, and you get annoyed too easily,” Kwan smirked.
Wen doesn’t think deeply about everything that Kwan said because she got used to the way he teased her. She was just annoyed by his behavior, but she doesn’t hate him. She got inside the car and drove back to the Black Mansion, and now she doesn’t expect she’s leaving.
As the sun began its journey to the sky, Wen rode on a train bound for the city. She was planning to accept the job her friend offered her since there was no one she could rely on.
After her mother died, her father quickly found another woman, and due to her anger, she decided to cut off all contact with him. While her grandparents might be in heaven already.
She was trying to forget everything about her and Kwan, but those memories were the ones she treasured the most. She didn’t know when she could move on from the pain she felt.
“Welcome to your new home, Wen Alison!” The man greeted as he opened the door for Wen. He was wearing a black suit with a tie, which made her wonder what the occasion was.
Patrick Salvatore, Wen’s acquaintance on her mother’s side He has bronze eyes, brown skin, short blonde hair, average height, and a masculine body. He’s handsome and also single-you might be interested.
“Patrick, is there a party in your house?” Wen asked as she flipped her hair from her neck. She didn’t know what was waiting for her in this new home; all she could do was hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
“Come in, if I could only prepare a party for you, but I’m going to work today. I was really so happy that you accepted the job I offered,” Patrick replied with a smile. “Why did you decide to take it anyway?”
Wen followed him into the living room. She’s wondering if she would tell him the real reason-that Kwan’s girlfriend wants her to leave the Black Mansion and she has nowhere to go.
“Are you alone here?” Wen asks, trying to change the topic.
“Yup, there’s no one else here, so don’t be shy. Are you hungry? I thought you wouldn’t arrive this early,” Patrick continuously said. “Why won’t you have breakfast first before I discuss work with you?”
“Um, Patrick, can I have some rest first?” Wen asked. “I haven’t slept well last night because there were a lot of things that happened, so I’m asking you to postpone my work first, if you may.”
“It’s okay. I’m not forcing you to do so. But you’ll be left here because I’m going to work today. Just help yourself if you need something.” Patrick knew that Wen was old enough to take care of herself, so he left her in his house to go to work.
Wen sat down on the couch, still thinking about her best friend. She’s hoping that nothing wrong will happen to him. That’s how kind she is; even though they drove her away, she still worries about him.
The sun had just begun its journey in the wide azure sky. Kwan was in a hurry because he might be late for work. He hadn’t noticed that it was already eight in the morning because Rebecca kept flirting with him.
After wearing his suit, Kwan took the key to his car and continued outside the house. He didn’t want to leave either because something could happen to Rebecca if she was alone in the mansion.
“Please take care of your young lady if you don’t want to die,” Kwan instructed Lando before he left. He even forgot to kiss Rebecca or even say goodbye to her before leaving because of haste.
Lando didn’t reply, but a devilish smile appeared on his face as he thought about his wicked plan. It’s the perfect opportunity for him to finish what his master has started.
