“Hahaha!”
Caspian burst out laughing at those words. He knew Chris’s strength well and was fully aware of Master William’s high regard for him. Chris was destined for bigger things in the future.
After his laughter subsided, Caspian asked, “Chris, what’s brought you here? I doubt you came just to say goodbye.”
Chris sighed deeply and replied, “Mr. Vance, you guessed it right. There’s something I need your help with.”
Caspian’s tone grew serious. “Let me guess-this has something to do with my granddaughter, Candace, doesn’t it?”
Chris nodded, his face filled with helplessness. “Mr. Vance, you know I’m already a married man, but Candace seems unwilling to let go of her feelings for me. I was hoping you could talk to her.”
Hearing this, Caspian’s expression grew complicated. He understood Candace’s feelings for Chris all too well. But he also knew how stubborn Candace could be-convincing her to let go wouldn’t be easy.
Still, if no one intervened, things could get messy. Chris was already married, and if Candace persisted in this way, she’d only end up as a third party in someone else’s marriage. That would hurt both her and Chris.
Caspian sighed in resignation. “Alright, I’ll talk to her. But whether she listens is another matter. You know how deeply she feels for you-she even took a bullet for you. Asking her to let go won’t be easy.”
Hearing this, Chris’s face was clouded with worry. He truly didn’t know how to handle Candace.
If he confronted her directly, he feared it would hurt her even more. But staying silent would only prolong her pain. All Chris could do now was hope that Caspian could reason with Candace and help her move on.
It was cruel, but there was no other choice. Chris was a married man-cheating was out of the question. How could he face his wife and daughter if he betrayed them?
The world was full of temptations, but how many men could truly stay true to themselves? Too often, men gave in, abandoning their wives and children in the process. But Chris wasn’t like that. He was a man of responsibility, devoted to his family.
Even though Candace loved him deeply, Chris had no choice but to let her down.
Before leaving Middleton, Chris received an invitation from Jack Butler.
Jack proposed a live combat drill between his Team Wolf and Chris’s Guards of Death.
Team Wolf was Amerosia’s most elite special forces unit. On the other hand, the Guards of Death were Chris’s personal private army.
Both were among the strongest fighting forces in Amerosia. A live drill would sharpen the skills of both sides, benefiting everyone involved.
Chris thought for a moment and accepted the invitation.

At the Middleton military district, Jack Butler and Team Wolf were stationed, tasked with ensuring the safety of the area.
At the training grounds, rows of soldiers in combat uniforms stood ready, their faces streaked with camouflage paint.
Suddenly, a thunderous roar filled the air.
Rumble!
Rumble!
Rumble!
Several dark green Humvees roared onto the scene.
Chris, Tiger, and their men stepped out of the vehicles. Behind them followed nearly a thousand soldiers of the Guards of Death.
For this drill, Tiger would be in charge of the Guards of Death, while Chris was here merely as an observer.
Jack Butler greeted Chris with a broad smile. “Chris, you’re finally here!”
Chris wasted no time. “Let’s get started.”
Jack nodded but couldn’t resist adding, “Chris, I may have lost to you before, but my Team Wolf is made up of warriors who can each take on ten men. I believe they’ll defeat your Guards of Death.”
“Is that so?” Chris replied calmly. “It’s too early to say. Let’s see who wins first.”
Jack glanced at the soldiers behind Chris.
As he studied the Guards of Death, Jack’s expression grew serious.
He could feel the intense, almost tangible killing intent emanating from them. This wasn’t something ordinary soldiers possessed-it came from countless battles and life-or-death experiences.
It was clear these men were battle-hardened warriors, veterans who had survived the harshest conditions.
Jack had faith in his Team Wolf, but defeating the Guards of Death wouldn’t be easy.
Whispers spread among the Team Wolf soldiers:
“Are they the Guards of Death?”
“The Guards of Death! They’re Primus’s personal guards!”
“I’ve heard legends about them-unstoppable on the battlefield. Today, we finally get to face them!”
Despite their excitement, none of the Team Wolf soldiers showed any fear. They were Amerosia’s finest special forces, and they welcomed the challenge.
Jack’s voice boomed across the training grounds. “Everyone, gather up!”
At his command, Team Wolf quickly assembled.
—
The drill began.
Under Tiger’s leadership, the Guards of Death moved swiftly into position, displaying impeccable coordination and an intense combat readiness.
Jack Butler’s expression grew more serious as he observed their movements.
He shouted to his soldiers, “Listen up! If you lose today, no one gets dinner tonight!”
The Team Wolf soldiers grew even more focused, not daring to take the drill lightly.
Chris, meanwhile, stood off to the side, lighting a cigarette with a casual air.
To Chris, while Team Wolf was strong, they were no match for his Guards of Death. He had absolute confidence in his men-they were his creation, soldiers he had trained personally.
One by one, the Guards of Death disappeared into the terrain, lying in wait for Team Wolf’s advance.
Team Wolf, knowing the strength of their opponents, adopted a cautious strategy, opting for a surround-and-destroy tactic to eliminate the Guards of Death.
The battlefield erupted into chaos.
Ratatatata…
Gunfire echoed as the drill turned into a fierce skirmish.
The Guards of Death proved their reputation as sharpshooters, hitting their targets with unerring accuracy. One by one, Team Wolf soldiers were “eliminated” and forced to withdraw from the drill.
Jack Butler’s face darkened as he watched his soldiers fall.
He had always known Team Wolf couldn’t match the Guards of Death in strength, but the disparity was greater than he had expected. On the battlefield, the Guards of Death were overwhelming, leaving Team Wolf with no room to counterattack.
Within an hour, the drill was over.
Team Wolf had been completely wiped out.
The Guards of Death sustained only minor losses, which were negligible compared to the devastation Team Wolf faced.
