“Thank you,” Agnes said, slightly flustered. She was not feeling calm because she saw the pain and reluctance in Ansel’s eyes. She was a kind girl and did not want those around her to be sad. After all, she still had a friendship with Ansel, so she always felt sorry during this farce.
Facing his gaze, Agnes smiled, “You should be happy too. I hope you can find someone suitable for you soon.”
“I will,” Ansel replied with a faint smile, though his heart was bleeding. He still had to act indifferent.
“You… will get married soon after the engagement, right?” Ansel wanted to give up completely, even though he knew that was how the story usually went. He also wanted to find a topic to talk about, to take this opportunity to say a few more words to her, to look at her a few more times. If you have ever loved someone so persistently, you would understand this feeling; loving someone humbly.
Agnes spoke softly, “We have already registered our marriage.” Telling him this cruel fact might be good for him.
Hearing this, Ansel’s body stiffened. His heart sank to the bottom, and a strong pain spread wildly in his chest, but he still forced a smile.
At this moment, not far away, a Volvo slowly stopped.
Tom saw the two figures through the lowered car window. They were standing outside the mall, facing each other and talking about something. The atmosphere seemed… not like an ordinary meeting between friends.
Tom did not rush to get out of the car. He looked at them and then glanced around before patiently waiting.
Agnes felt that Tom should be arriving soon. She did not want him to see anything that might cause unnecessary misunderstandings. So she said to Ansel, “He will come to pick me up soon.”
Ansel knew there was no possibility between him and Agnes anymore. He controlled his emotions and did not want to cause her any trouble. So he said to her, “I hope I can use all my luck to exchange for your lifelong happiness. Agnes, you must be happy. I love you.”
Seeing the tears in Ansel’s eyes, Agnes felt a pang of sadness in her nose. “You must be happy too. We both must be happy.”
Recalling the figure that had been around her for years, the smile on her face carried a bit of bitterness. “I’m sorry for letting you down.”
She genuinely felt very sorry.
Ansel shook his head and reluctantly took two steps back before turning away. What use was her apology? He wanted her love.
This scene also fell into Tom’s eyes as he watched the boy turn away dejectedly…
Tom did not get out of the car immediately but waited for a while until Agnes calmed down and processed everything.
When Tom got out of the car and walked towards her, Agnes looked up unintentionally and saw him.
Their eyes met, and she quickly pulled herself together.
It had been two days since she last saw Tom, and she missed him very much. As she anticipated his approach, she felt sweetness in the air.
Ansel’s appearance was just a small episode and did not affect Agnes’s mood much.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Bubu,” Tom said as he stood in front of her, gently brushing aside the hair on her cheek with deep and tender eyes filled with affection.
Agnes smiled and shook her head while holding a bag in her hand.
“What did you buy?”
“Some kudzu powder for grandma. I remember she likes it,” Agnes replied thoughtfully.
“Thank you on behalf of grandma,” Tom said as he hugged her and took the bag from her hand. “Let’s go; I’ll take you back to the manor.” He put his arm around her shoulder and led her towards the car.
