So, was everything he told my sister true? Somehow, Agnes felt quite moved. As Tom drove, he said to her, “After we get engaged, we’ll have the wedding. As for the marriage certificate, as long as your parents agree, we can get it anytime.”
Tom was very considerate of proper etiquette. Being with someone like him made Agnes feel very secure. Although their last engagement was grand, none of the Campell family’s relatives attended.
As they chatted, the car began to slow down. The luxurious villa that Spencer had bought was now in sight. When the two cars stopped one after another, Mr. and Mrs. Campell came out of the living room eagerly to see their daughter.
Tom and Agnes got out of the car almost simultaneously. After closing the door, Tom opened the trunk and took out two exquisite bags. He closed the trunk and extended his hand to Agnes, looking at her with a determined gaze.
Agnes glanced at him, a bit surprised. “Did you prepare gifts?” she asked.
He replied, “I prepared them a long time ago.” She looked at his outstretched hand and with a smile placed her hand in his palm. Their fingers interlocked as they followed Spencer and Summer toward the living room.
The two elders who had come out of the living room were taken aback when they saw Agnes holding hands with an unfamiliar man.
“Mom, Dad,” Spencer and Summer greeted their parents.
But the elders seemed not to hear them, focusing instead on their youngest daughter and the man holding her hand.
“Mom, Dad,” Agnes greeted them with a smile as she stopped in front of them with Tom.
“Hello, Mr. Campell, Mrs. Campell,” Tom said politely in a warm voice.
Mrs. Campell was shocked. “You… this…” She looked at Tom’s handsome face and then at his hand holding her daughter’s. “You…”
“Dad, Mom, let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Tom Fritz,” Agnes said sweetly as she leaned closer to Tom’s arm.
“Please come in,” Spencer noticed the slight awkwardness and patted Tom on the shoulder. “Let’s talk inside.” He then turned to his parents. “Mom, Dad, let’s go inside; it’s getting windy out here.” He gently guided his parents inside.
Agnes couldn’t help but smile as she led Tom inside as well.
“Agnes, when did you start dating?” Mrs. Campell freed herself from Spencer’s grip and turned to look at them. “You never mentioned it before.”
She brought him home just like that? When Summer called earlier, she only mentioned bringing a friend-who would have thought it was a boyfriend? They were completely unprepared for this.
However, this man made a good first impression-cultured and elegant, with a gentle demeanor that felt like a breath of fresh air.
“Mr. Campell, Mrs. Campell,” Tom released Agnes’s hand and placed the gifts on a nearby table. Looking sincerely at the elders, he said, “I haven’t been with Agnes for long, but I like her very much and hope you will allow me to date your precious daughter.”
“My buddy is very reliable; you can trust him with Agnes,” Spencer said while arranging a fruit platter. “He’s set to inherit Fritz Group in the future and is an internationally renowned chemistry professor-a scientist too.”
