Soon, she picked out clothes, shoes, scarves, skirts, and some cute accessories. After paying, she organized her large and small bags. Tom also bought her some snacks from the area. The snack section was full of delightful options that girls typically love. Some had cute packaging, and others were her usual favorites, but she couldn’t find the beef jerky she tried today and thought was delicious.
Agnes felt a bit disappointed. “It turns out it’s not a common snack. No wonder it tasted so good; it must be a local specialty.”
“Yes,” Tom replied. “Do you like this beef jerky so much?”
The girl smiled at him. “The taste is really special. I’ve had many kinds of beef jerky since I was young, but this one is the most chewy and leaves a lingering flavor.”
Tom remembered what she said.
“But it’s okay if we can’t find it!” Agnes was still very happy with her haul today, especially since it was her first time shopping with her beloved Mr. Kitten. Seeing the many bags in his hands, she knew he wouldn’t allow it but still politely asked, “Do you want me to carry some?”
“No need.”
“Then let’s go back. We’re done shopping.”
“Okay.”
Overall, today’s shopping trip felt like an uncle taking a child out. Tom didn’t buy anything for himself; everything was for his little friend. No matter what she bought, he always helped her decide.
Tom was extremely patient.
On their way home by taxi, Tom thought about what he needed to do next, which was exactly what he wanted to do.
“Tom, you just got here and decided to go back. Will it affect your work?”
“This project had already started,” Tom answered patiently. “I just came to help overcome some difficulties. Now that things are resolved, there’s no impact. But my mentor will miss me.”
That was certain; talented people are always wanted wherever they go.
The girl turned to look at him and held his arm. “Thank you for choosing me.”
“And thank you for choosing me,” Tom felt that love was mutual.
The happiness Agnes felt now was shared by Tom as well.
After bringing her back to the apartment, Tom carried the bags out of the car and took the girl upstairs. “Bubu, I need to go out for a bit,” he said before even sitting down.
“Work?” The girl looked up at him.
“Yes, I need to go back to the research institute but I’ll be back soon.” Tom had already put down the bags and gently stroked her hair with a warm smile. “We’ve been shopping for so long; you should rest well.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you to come back.” Agnes wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him tightly, her cheek lightly pressed against his chest. “Did you contact Jeffery? Will he take you?”
“No need; he’s busy today.”
The girl looked up from his embrace. “Then be careful.”
“Alright, don’t worry.” His eyes were full of affection. “A grown man won’t get lost.”
Reluctantly, she let him go. “Bye-bye~”
“Bye-bye.” Tom left and called Mrs. Brown in the elevator. Mrs. Brown was at the supermarket buying groceries to prepare dinner for them.
Tom told Mrs. Brown that Agnes was home alone.
Mrs. Brown understood immediately. “Alright, alright, I’ll head back right away. Don’t worry and focus on your work. Will you be back for dinner?”
“I will.”
“Okay then, I’ll cook more rice.” Mrs. Brown smiled as she pushed her shopping cart to the checkout.
