Tom’s deep eyes gazed at the girl. Her eyes were filled with sincerity and trust in him, which moved Tom deeply.
“Shall we go?” Agnes released his hand and looked at him expectantly. “If you’re done with work, can you accompany me out?”
She felt inexplicably pressured staying here.
Tom nodded, willing to consider her feelings. He took Agnes out of the research institute; Jeffery’s car had already left.
“We’ll take a taxi,” Tom said as he hailed a cab. “There are many places here without parking lots, so it’s more convenient than driving. I let Jeffery go rest.”
“Got it.” The girl smiled sweetly, linking her arm through his and turning to look at him. “So, Professor Fritz, where are you taking me?”
“How about we go shopping?” Tom had taken time yesterday to ask his good friend Spencer. Spencer said women love shopping and the desire to buy things exists at any age, even if the woman is eighty years old.
So Tom decided to take her shopping for clothes.
In Tom’s eyes, Spencer was a master in relationships; there wasn’t a woman he couldn’t handle.
“Shopping?” Agnes was a bit surprised. “At the mall? Do you need to buy something?”
“I don’t need anything,” Tom said as they got into the car. “Since you’ve come all this way, I want to take you shopping.”
Just starting their relationship and already spending his money? Agnes wasn’t used to it.
But they were already in the car, and Tom had told the driver the name of a mall, and the car was on its way.
Tom seemed to read her mind. Seeing her silence, he held her hand, interlocking their fingers, and asked softly, “What are you thinking about?”
“I…”
“Are you reluctant to spend my money?” Tom turned to look at her, hitting the nail on the head.
The girl met his gaze. “Can I pay for myself while you accompany me?”
“Are you trying to make me feel insignificant?” Tom asked her. “Are you planning on splitting everything fifty-fifty in the future?”
The girl couldn’t answer. Spending her own money didn’t seem right either; it would put him in a difficult position.
“Agnes, since we’re together now, you should never feel awkward at any time,” Tom said to her. “You love me and want to give me as much as possible, right?”
Yes, Agnes was willing to give anything for him.
“So it’s the same logic reversed. You can love me but I can’t love you?” he continued. “I love you too and want to give you as much as possible. Right now our time is limited; shopping is the only thing I could think of.”
With his explanation, Agnes felt completely relieved and answered with a smile, no longer overthinking it. “Okay.”
After all, he wasn’t short on money, right? Since they were aiming for marriage, she might as well accept it graciously.
Soon, the car stopped outside a large mall.
Tom paid the fare and led Agnes inside. The mall here was different from those back home; everything was new and exciting.
The mall had seven or eight floors, each selling different items with a wide range of brands.
Not just clothes but also cosmetics, snacks, household items, luxury goods-different price ranges for different people-all available here…
There were also many customers here, most of them young people.
Agnes had a particularly youthful mindset; she was young herself and had a great figure, so everything she tried on looked good.
Tom was very generous-not only paying but also carrying bags for her-spoiling her immensely.
If Grandma knew about this, how happy she would be!
