Reiner – Doubt and Insecurities

“We don’t know yet. It’s too early to tell,” Reiner replied calmly.
“I’ll get the preparations ready. If the child is a boy, we know exactly what we have to do,” King stated emotionlessly before standing up from his seat.
According to him, the dinner was over. With much of the food left untouched, King left the dining table. I watched him leave in silence before letting out a long sigh. That made me realize just how nervous and uptight I had been during the entire duration of the dinner.
“Congratulations to you both. I can’t wait to see your baby. He or she is going to look so cute no matter what!” Queen exclaimed cheerfully.
Unlike her husband, Queen was truly thrilled and looking forward to the arrival of our child. Reiner thanked his mother, and I did the same.
“How have you been feeling? Bad morning sickness?” she asked compassionately.
“Yes. It hasn’t really been smooth, but I’ll be fine,” I replied honestly.
“Has Knight been taking care of you properly?” Queen asked before she turned to narrow her eyes suspiciously at her own son.
He’s been taking care of me too well and I had a feeling that more was to come. I plastered a smile on my face as I nodded.
“Finish up your dinner so we can head back to our room,” Reiner advised me while completely ignoring Queen.
“Don’t worry about what King said. I’m sure that he’s so happy that he’s crying in his bed from joy right now. After all, he’d been waiting for you two to have a child since the day that Natalia arrived here on this island,” Queen disclosed followed by a loud and bright laugh.
I watched in pure amazement as Queen continued to laugh even louder than before. Her face turned a pretty shade of pink and I was reminded again of her ex-supermodel status. Her words helped to ease my mind a lot. Time really flew by, and it had been many years now since I first set foot on this island.

Since we were both pregnant, Kat and I communicated a lot more on top of our meetings for work. Of course, Kat was further along than I was. She should be giving birth very soon, but she was still working hard like normal.
“Are you excited?” I asked.
“Not really. I guess I was so excited that I got over it already,” she replied with a light laugh.
“How is Nick doing? He’s helping you out with some work, right?” I asked with some concern.
“He is. I can do the work myself, but I like it better when he’s around. Got to find excuses to keep him around, you know, so he doesn’t cheat on me while I’m fat and pregnant,” Kat said with a laugh.
I could tell that she was joking but a part of me felt that she was half serious too. That was probably what she honestly thought. I laughed along because I couldn’t imagine someone like Nick cheating on anyone. Plus, they were almost always as the orphanage so his opportunities to misbehave were very limited if not non-existent.
“You should be careful too, you know. Your husband is such a hottie and all. Plus, he’s not chained up to your side at the orphanage like mine is,” Kat warned with a laugh.
“I don’t think Reiner would do anything like that. He’ll start working with me at home soon too,” I told her.
“Well, better safe than sorry. Men can be such animals sometimes…” Kat said as if speaking from her own personal experience.
I don’t blame her, though. I knew well where she was coming from, and she probably meant well. Kat did not have very good experiences with men in the past. Thankfully that all came to an end when she met Nick and now, they are married and expecting a child together.
“I’ll keep that in mind…” I murmured into the phone.
“I gotta go now. I’ll give you a call again tomorrow or something,” Kat said quickly.
“Right. Take care!” I said before hanging up.
I was still laughing a little to myself when I ended the call. Kat can be so funny sometimes. For a while, I thought that her words did not bother me at all. However, when I started thinking about the fact that Reiner and I haven’t done it even once since he found out that I was pregnant, I started to feel uneasy. Being busy with work, eating up all the food from the nutritionist, working on my exercises and other things had kept me too busy. My excitement towards my pregnancy also served to distract me. Before I realized it, it had already been almost two weeks since we last had sex.
This isn’t normal…
Reiner didn’t mention anything about it and although we still slept together, I quickly noticed that he never made a move on me since then. I shut down my own feelings of insecurities before it could form into any ill-omen thoughts in my own brain. He’s not cheating on me just because I’m pregnant and haven’t had sex with him for two weeks. Natalia…get a grip on yourself, please.
I honestly thought that I had shaken that ugly train of thought out of my mind and system for good until I had dinner with Reiner later that evening. Reiner returned from work like normal. He was in the process of clearing his work and transitioning to work with me at home. The perks of running your own companies were definitely not bad at all. Things were supposed to be normal between us, but I felt very awkward in his company.
I watched as Reiner ate his food as he sat opposite me at the dining table, but my thoughts were elsewhere. He went to work as always so why am I so suspicious of him. This is all Kat’s fault for saying those things to me. No, this is all my fault for letting my dark fantasies run wild like this.
