Even as the third-ranked cultivator on the leaderboard, Chris was no match for Lord Valerian.
Who was this man?
When had such a dangerous figure appeared in Middleton?
Though Lord Valerian held Light Sin at bay, Chris dared not let down his guard.
“Ah!”
A sudden scream tore through the air.
Chris turned sharply, only to see Elderwood seize the opportunity while Chris was distracted. His hand shot out with claws as sharp as steel blades, capable of tearing through flesh with ease.
Chris reacted just in time to evade the attack, but not without consequence. Elderwood’s claws raked his chest, leaving deep gashes. Blood poured from the wounds, flesh torn and mangled.
Chris looked up, his face grim and wary. Elderwood was no ordinary foe. No wonder Daniel Williams had sent him to kill Chris. Clearly, Daniel had spared no expense in this assassination attempt.
“Ah!”
Another scream rang out.
Chris turned again to see Seraphina clutching a combat knife, plunging it into Light’s abdomen.
Blood spurted forth as Light coughed up a mouthful of it.
“Darling! Are you alright?” Shadow cried out in panic.
But as Shadow’s attention shifted, Chris seized the moment. Gripping the Dragon Slayer tightly, he swung the blade with brutal precision toward Shadow’s neck.
By the time Shadow realized the danger, it was too late.
A spray of blood erupted as Chris’s blade severed Shadow’s head cleanly from his body.
The head hit the ground with a dull thud, eyes wide open in disbelief. Even in death, Shadow couldn’t comprehend how Chris had killed him so easily.
“Darling! Darling!”
Light’s scream was filled with anguish as she watched Shadow fall. Rage consumed her.
“You wretched woman! You killed my husband! I’ll kill you and avenge him!”
Light’s fury turned entirely toward Seraphina.
In her mind, it was her injury that had distracted Shadow, giving Chris the opportunity to strike. If not for that, Shadow wouldn’t have died.
Seraphina’s eyes gleamed coldly as she watched Light lose herself in rage.
Consumed by anger, Light had only one thought: kill Seraphina.
“Dream on if you think you can kill me!”
Bang!
A gunshot shattered the tension.
Light froze, her eyes wide in shock. A bullet had pierced her forehead.
With a heavy thud, Light collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
Seraphina stood there, holding a handgun, her face indifferent.
“I told you-killing me is nothing but a dream.”
And so, the Twins were slain by Chris and Seraphina.
Light Sin, witnessing this turn of events, felt panic creep onto his face.
Of the four top cultivators, two had already fallen. With only himself and Elderwood remaining, there was no way they could stand against Chris, Lord Valerian, and Seraphina.
This attempt to kill Chris had failed.
“Elderwood, we need to retreat!” Light Sin shouted in desperation.
Bang!
As he spoke, Light Sin launched a heavy punch toward Lord Valerian.
Boom!
The two fists collided, the impact sending Light Sin flying backward.
Using the momentum, Light Sin turned and fled.
Lord Valerian made no move to pursue. His only purpose in intervening had been to stop Light Sin and his group from killing Chris.
To Lord Valerian, Chris was his prey alone. No one else had the right to claim his life.
Seeing Light Sin retreat, Elderwood hesitated, his thoughts of escape growing stronger.
“Trying to run? Dream on!”
Chris lunged toward Elderwood, his sword at the ready.
“Seraphina, help me kill him!” Chris shouted.
Elderwood was a formidable opponent. If he escaped, he would remain a significant threat.
Seraphina immediately moved to assist.
Elderwood sneered. “Kill me? You’re courting death!”
With a roar, Elderwood lashed out at Seraphina, his claws slicing through the air.
Seraphina’s expression shifted as she raised her combat knife to block.
Crack! Crack!
The sound of metal shattering echoed through the air as Elderwood’s claws broke the knife into pieces.
Before Seraphina could react, Elderwood’s fist slammed into her.
Boom!
The force of the blow sent Seraphina flying, blood spraying from her mouth.
Chris’s face darkened at the sight.
With a cold gleam in his eyes, Chris gripped the Dragon Slayer tightly and launched a relentless assault on Elderwood.
Elderwood dodged swiftly, his expression twisted with rage.
“Chris, if you want to die, I’ll grant your wish!” he snarled.
Grabbing the Dragon Slayer with one hand, Elderwood aimed his other claw at Chris’s chest, intent on ripping him apart.
If his attack landed, Chris would be torn open, his heart ripped from his body.
But just as the fatal blow was about to land-
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunshots rang out.
Seraphina, holding her handgun, fired several shots at Elderwood.
Faced with the incoming bullets, Elderwood was forced to abandon his attack and retreat.
Killing Chris wasn’t worth taking a bullet himself. Elderwood wasn’t about to sacrifice his life in exchange for Chris’s.
As he dodged the bullets and turned toward Seraphina, Chris saw his chance.
“Die!”
With a roar, Chris swung the Dragon Slayer with all his might.
Thud!
Elderwood’s head flew from his shoulders, blood gushing half a meter into the air.
With a heavy crash, Elderwood’s body collapsed to the ground.
The second-ranked cultivator on the Amerosia leaderboard, Elderwood, had fallen to Chris.
Of Daniel Williams’s four Paragons, only Light Sin had managed to escape. The Twins and Elderwood were dead.
Breathing heavily, Chris bent over, trying to catch his breath. Elderwood’s strength had been overwhelming.
Without Seraphina’s help, Chris would never have been able to kill him.
Turning his gaze toward Lord Valerian, Chris asked coldly, “Are you here to kill me too?”
Lord Valerian gave Chris a calm look and replied, “You’re already injured. While I do want to kill you, I’m not the kind to strike when my prey is weak. Heal up. I’ll take your head another day.”
