Chapter 687: Layla Calls General Cruz

Book:A King Reborn in Shadows Published:2024-12-13

Flynn wanted Kendal Roy to ask General Cruz.
“Ask about what?”
Everyone was puzzled, unable to grasp the meaning behind their conversation.
“I just asked General Cruz…” Kendal Roy, seeing the situation laid bare, explained everything to the crowd.
A collective gasp filled the room as all eyes turned to Flynn.
“General Yancey came to Niarak for a friend? Could it really be him?”
“No way, how could it be? Him? What does he have to deserve this?”
“The Kaur family’s son-in-law, Rose’s right-hand man… is he really General Yancey’s friend? Or even his mentor? This…”
The crowd stammered in disbelief, their eyes filled with shock. The idea seemed too wild, too explosive to accept.
Even Madeline’s eyes betrayed a hint of astonishment as she glanced at Flynn.
Forget being Yves Yancey’s mentor-being just an ordinary friend was already enough to stun everyone.
After all, which of General Yancey’s friends wasn’t an extraordinary figure?
Kendal Roy, listening to the murmurs of disbelief, cast a cold glance at Flynn. He spoke indifferently,
“There’s no need for baseless speculation. General Cruz only mentioned coming for a friend and didn’t reveal their identity.”
“No details? Fine! Let’s call him and find out!” Flynn sneered.
“The second-in-command must have General Cruz’s number, right?” Flynn pressed.
Layla’s eyes narrowed slightly, her voice cold, “Give me the number. I’ll call him myself.”
She didn’t believe a word Flynn said. Not a single one.
To Layla, Flynn’s statement was too calculated. He was banking on General Cruz being angry and Kendal Roy not daring to call. But if Kendal Roy wouldn’t make the call, she would.
She wanted the truth, and when it came out, Flynn would have nowhere to hide.
Kendal Roy pulled out his phone, preparing to look up General Cruz’s number. But just as he unlocked it, a message from one of his subordinates popped up:
“Second-in-command, did the banquet end already? Yves Yancey and General Cruz are at the airport! They’re chatting in the VIP lounge with a young woman!”
For years, Kendal Roy had built various businesses under his second-in-command title, including operations at Niarak Airport. The message came from the head of the airport’s logistics department.
Attached to the message was a video.
In the clip, a young woman with waterfall-like long hair and a simple, elegant dress stood out. Her almond-shaped face, fair skin, large eyes, delicate nose, and full lips curved slightly in a mischievous smile.
Surrounding her were Yves Yancey and General Cruz, both speaking to her with smiling faces. The girl occasionally pouted, tilted her head, or furrowed her brows in a playful yet cool manner.
Kendal Roy stared at the screen, his brows furrowing before his expression darkened.
“Dragon Cavalry General’s daughter… Lyra Whitaker!” Kendal finally remembered the girl’s name and exclaimed in shock.
“Lyra Whitaker?” Layla, hearing the name, turned her gaze toward the screen.
There was no mistaking it. The girl in the video was Nate Black’s daughter.
Lyra Whitaker, commander of the 80, 000-strong Black Phoenix Army of the Northern Territory, and Ostrad’s youngest God of War.
Her rank might not surpass Yves Yancey’s, but her fame in Ostrad was unmatched, rivaling even the nation’s top ten Heavenly Kings.
Like Layla, she was a once-in-a-generation prodigy. Her status was even higher than Layla’s-she was the Dragon Cavalry General’s daughter and a formidable warrior in her own right.
The only reason Kendal Roy hadn’t recognized her immediately was her casual outfit, which differed from her usual image.
The crowd gathered around, watching the video on repeat as exclamations erupted.
“So General Yancey and General Cruz left to meet Lyra Whitaker!”
“She’s a rising star in the military world! A role model for countless young women!”
“For years, Ostrad’s two most famous female prodigies have been Layla Woods and Lyra Whitaker. But Ms. Whitaker seems to be even more renowned than Ms. Woods…”
The group was in awe of Lyra Whitaker’s presence, showering her with admiration.
To think such a legendary figure had come to Niarak! The realization only deepened their anger and resentment toward Flynn.
If Flynn hadn’t provoked General Yancey into leaving, the generals might have returned to the Peninsula Hotel after picking up Lyra Whitaker.
One Heavenly King and two Gods of War-it would’ve been a historic event, a sensation across the North and South!
The chance to witness Lyra Whitaker’s brilliance up close would’ve been an unparalleled honor.
But Flynn ruined it all.
Flynn himself was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Lyra Whitaker to arrive so quickly-she was already at Niarak Airport.
He could only hope Yves Yancey would keep her from noticing the commotion. Otherwise, Flynn would be in serious trouble.
Layla’s furrowed brows gradually eased as she spoke coldly, “No need to call anymore. The truth is clear-General Yancey’s friend is Lyra Whitaker.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Exactly! Yves Yancey came for a friend, and that friend was undoubtedly Lyra Whitaker.
Only someone of Lyra Whitaker’s stature would warrant General Yancey personally coming to Niarak to pick her up.
“I knew it. There’s no way this guy could be General Yancey’s friend. What a ridiculous misunderstanding!”
“A man as noble as a Provincial Prince and someone as insignificant as him-how could they possibly be connected?”
“I thought Niarak had produced a major figure, but it turns out he’s nothing. What a false alarm!”
The crowd cast disdainful glances at Flynn, disgusted by his audacity to pretend to be Yves Yancey’s mentor.
Madeline exhaled in relief, feeling as though a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
She was just glad Flynn wasn’t Yves Yancey’s friend. Otherwise, the humiliation would’ve been unbearable.
“What else do you have to say?” Lilia sneered at Flynn, her eyes brimming with mockery.
This man was truly despicable.
He had banked on Kendal Roy not daring to call General Cruz, but he hadn’t anticipated Layla stepping in. Now, the truth was out without even needing a call.
How humiliating!
What kind of man could endure this disgrace? He might as well find a wall and bash his head against it.
“And? What do you have to say for yourself?” Flynn shrugged and replied nonchalantly, “Just prepare to beg for mercy when the time comes.”
Now that Lyra Whitaker had arrived in Niarak, Flynn had no intention of escalating the situation further. If things got out of hand and caught Lyra’s attention, it would only complicate matters.
Kendal Roy’s expression darkened as he turned to Rose and said, “Ms. Sharp, the matter is settled. Flynn is nothing more than a despicable, vulgar, shameless scoundrel. I hope you’ll have him leave so we can proceed with our business.”
The crowd echoed their agreement.
Yves Yancey’s departure might’ve been partly to meet Lyra Whitaker, but Flynn’s behavior had certainly played a role.
Someone like him didn’t deserve to stay.
But Rose’s expression remained calm. She said, “Flynn is my friend. If he leaves, I’ll leave too.”
Though she disapproved of Flynn’s earlier actions, she would never abandon him.
After everything they’d been through, her bond with Flynn was unshakable.
Who else had helped her rebuild her life, asking for nothing in return?
Who else had risked their life for her in the line of fire?
Who else had brought her a $50 billion investment?
Who else constantly worried about her well-being?
Only Flynn.
Even if the whole world turned against Flynn, she would stand by him without hesitation.
A man who had lent her a hand in her darkest times was someone she would never forget.
To walk with a dragon, one must endure the storms it stirred.
