Chapter 686: Flynn—A Friend of Yves Yancey?

Book:A King Reborn in Shadows Published:2024-12-13

Kendal Roy hosted this grand banquet under orders from the higher-ups of the Eight Extremities School. Its purpose was to appease both the God of War and General Yancey. But truth be told, Kendal hoped to use this opportunity to bolster her own reputation.
After all, being able to invite such esteemed figures-General Yancey and the God of War-was a mark of extraordinary honor. It was like an emperor visiting a noble family’s estate, a memory to boast about for generations.
Kendal had poured her heart into every detail. The menu, the decor, the layout-she had spent an entire day meticulously preparing everything. Last night, she slept only three hours, consumed by thoughts of winning General Yancey’s admiration.
But what she never anticipated was Flynn’s audacity. He strutted in confidently, positioning himself right in front of General Yancey.
Despite repeated reminders from the attendees, Flynn remained indifferent, as if nothing had happened. He blatantly ignored General Yancey’s presence.
This was rebellion.
This was outright disrespect.
This was arrogance beyond measure.
Who was General Yancey?
In Niarak, a small rural place, his stature was unparalleled. Even in Eahta, wherever he made an appearance, all eyes were on him. He would walk alone down hundreds of meters of red carpet, basking in the applause, the camera flashes, and the respectful smiles of the crowd.
And now?
At this banquet, a nobody-a stray dog, really-dared to walk ahead of him.
Even if Flynn didn’t recognize General Yancey, that could be excused. But after being reminded multiple times, he not only refused to step aside but even cursed at those who tried to intervene. Instead of bowing his head, apologizing, or seeking forgiveness, Flynn continued to stand arrogantly in General Yancey’s path.
What else could this be but deliberate provocation?
Flynn had mastered the art of courting attention. He was clearly using this opportunity to make a name for himself, banking on the assumption that someone as dignified as General Yancey wouldn’t stoop to deal with a mere nobody.
Later, Flynn could brag, “I walked ahead of General Yancey on the red carpet, and he didn’t dare say a word!”
How impressive would that sound?
But while Flynn might earn some fleeting notoriety, Kendal Roy, as the banquet’s host, bore the brunt of the fallout. Everything was ruined.
All her efforts to smooth things over with General Cruz had gone to waste. Worse yet, both generals now left with a sour impression of her. Kendal could already imagine General Yancey’s thoughts:
“Kendal Roy, what kind of event are you hosting? I come to your banquet, and you let a stray dog upstage me? You can’t even get rid of him?”
Furious, Yves Yancey stormed off, taking General Cruz with him.
Kendal’s face darkened, her eyes flashing with murderous intent.
“Flynn is utterly disgraceful. He has no sense of decorum,” Layla muttered, her voice dripping with contempt.
No matter how high one’s ambitions soared, it was basic manners to show respect to those stronger. Heroes should recognize and honor each other.
But what was Flynn doing?
This wasn’t just rudeness-it was insanity.
Only an idiot would act this way.
Lilia glanced at the outraged guests and sneered, “Flynn is digging his own grave, alienating everyone here. Isn’t that exactly what we want?”
With one reckless act, Flynn had turned himself into a public enemy. And as his superior, Rose would naturally bear the brunt of the backlash, too.
For their side, it was all benefits and no losses.
“Flynn is such a liability,” Lilia added with a smirk.
Rose, meanwhile, was rooted to the spot, struggling to make sense of Flynn’s behavior. He might have connections, medical expertise, and decent martial skills, but he was nowhere near qualified to stand on equal footing with General Yancey.
General Yancey was a man of real power in the military-someone who commanded genuine respect. Flynn was simply too arrogant.
Scarlet and Molly also stood frozen, stunned by the unfolding drama.
The Heavenly King of the Nation? Flynn’s actions left everyone dumbfounded.
“Uncle Matteo, I heard your heart condition is acting up again. Let me perform acupuncture for you,” Flynn said, completely ignoring the growing resentment around him. He walked briskly toward Matteo, his focus solely on the man’s health.
But Paulina Johnston erupted, “If you didn’t constantly pull these idiotic stunts, Matteo Kaur’s condition wouldn’t have worsened in the first place!”
“Do you even understand who General Yancey is? How dare you offend him?” she screamed, pointing furiously at the doorway.
“Get out! The Kaur family doesn’t know you. Leave!”
Her face twisted with fury, her entire body trembling. The sight of Flynn arrogantly walking ahead of General Yancey had sent her blood pressure skyrocketing. Her heart felt like it was about to explode, and her head buzzed uncontrollably.
For a full minute, she stood there, stunned.
This fool had angered everyone. If someone stabbed him to death on the spot, she wouldn’t even care. But why did he have to involve them?
What would people think of the Kaur family for associating with someone like Flynn?
Now, Flynn was like a rotting fish-anyone who touched him would reek of his stench.
Matteo Kaur shook his head, disappointment evident in his eyes. “Flynn, you’ve gone too far. He’s a Heavenly King. How could you be so disrespectful?”
Madeline also stepped away from Flynn, her expression filled with disgust.
In her eyes, Flynn was rotten to the core, beyond saving.
As the crowd berated Flynn, he remained calm, showing no reaction. This only convinced everyone that he was deliberately provoking them.
“You don’t want me to do something? Then I’ll do it anyway,” his actions seemed to say.
It was the mindset of someone utterly shameless.
Scarlet, too, couldn’t hold back her anger. “Flynn, this isn’t the time to be stubborn! You shouldn’t have walked ahead of General Yancey.”
“Stubborn?” Flynn raised an eyebrow, confusion evident on his face.
“I am Yves Yancey’s master. If I don’t walk ahead of him, should I follow behind him instead?”
His words were like a bombshell. The entire room exploded.
“What nonsense is this? Yves Yancey’s master? Is this guy insane?”
“My god! Not only does he refuse to admit his mistake, but he’s doubling down and insulting General Yancey even more!”
“This is humiliating. As a fellow Niarak native, I’m ashamed of him. He’s a complete disgrace!”
The crowd was in an uproar, their faces red with fury. Flynn’s brazenness was beyond comprehension.
If General Yancey wasn’t causing trouble, Flynn should have stopped pushing his luck. Instead, he continued to provoke, using General Yancey as a backdrop for his theatrics.
To be Yves Yancey’s master? That would require Martial Arts skills akin to a deity’s.
Flynn, did you have any idea who you were?
If you were truly so remarkable, why were you stuck in Niarak, serving as the Kaur family’s son-in-law and Rose’s subordinate?
“You… you scoundrel!” Paulina Johnston was at a loss for words. Clutching her chest, she collapsed into a chair, her face contorted in pain.
Kendal Roy’s face was icy as she turned to Rose. “Ms. Sharp, I warned you not to bring Flynn. Look at the mess he’s caused now!”
“If this gets back to General Yancey, do you think the Sharp Group will have any future?”
“His behavior hasn’t just embarrassed himself-it’s humiliated all of us! You’d better get him out of here before he makes things worse.”
The crowd chimed in, their voices filled with anger.
“Yes! Kick him out! This reckless fool doesn’t belong here.”
“He’s ruined such a precious opportunity to connect with General Yancey!”
“If he stays, General Yancey will think we condone his actions. I don’t want to suffer for his stupidity. He has to go!”
Flynn frowned, his gaze fixed on Kendal Roy.
“What’s wrong with you? I asked you to confirm with General Cruz, but you didn’t. Now you’re barking at me like a dog,” Flynn said impatiently.
Kendal Roy froze.
She had, in fact, asked General Cruz earlier. He had mentioned that both he and General Yancey had a friend in Niarak.
Could that friend really be Flynn?
