Contracted to the wrong Alpha
Chapter 58
Lilia’s Pov.
Alveria smirked at my vulnerability and I darted my gaze and tried to focus. I was scared and this is not good. It’s not what I predicted at all and it feels as if Felix was right before me, burning me with his gaze on my skin.
The pack member looks rather excited, especially the women, making me wonder if there’s any way I wronged them. I pushed back all the thought away and focused on my first test, letting Lex’s voice settle down in my head.
“The first thing you’re going to do is go detect a wolfsbane scent. The contents of the bane is wrapped in a leaf, so look for the wolfsbane in the fields right here and bring it to me in the next twenty minutes. After that, you’re going to use the dark tunnel of the basement, to find the royal crown meant for the Alpha.”
I gasped at her words and shook my head, my lips trembled as I spoke. “Wolfsbane is a lethal poison to anyone! How on earth do you want me find and scent something that could kill me?” I asked, bewildered at such deadly task and she came impossibly close to me , staring at me right at the eyeballs and I flinched, glancing away
“I’m the only one to look at you this way, flower. No one should come close to you.” Lex warm voice filled my head and I sighed, averting my eyes away from this witch.
“The bane kills rogue faster than anything else, but to the normal wolves; they only get Intoxicated as long as they don’t have any intake in their body. You will die if you’re a rogue but if you aren’t, you will only be dizzy for a while. But you can stop this test and save your life in advance, save the pack the stress and admit to your”
“I’ll do it.” I cut her off with her silly Barbaric speech. Doing that was the same thing as not doing it. I could die both ways but I have a strong conviction to survive this no matter what. I can do it.
Lee surfaced and growled at my determination and I felt energized. I didn’t care about the faces or sneers that were willing to put me down, all I know right now is to survive.
“Fine, let’s see what your stupidity will get you too. Find the wolfsbane and get to the dark tunnel to get the crown in twenty minutes.” She ordered with a tone of defiance and walked out from my sight, gracefully.
“Your time starts now Lilia, Go!” She ordered and I turned to the wide open field in confusion, my heart skittered in fear but I sighed.
All we needed to do was find a wolfsbane that could kill me. Lee whimpered in dread but her silence was enough conviction she was ready just as I was ready to prove to these people that we can do it and in a snap,. I turned my gaze to the wide vast green field and began my search.
I walked slowly at first, letting my eyes scan the fields and got so confused. There were a lot of wrapped items on the field and this bane was wrapped. My wolf won’t be able to take it at the smell of skin touching it. And rumors had it all wolves are extremely allergic to the stuff so this could only mean that Alveria was doing anything in her power to see my death.
I need to act fast and wise, there’s no way on earth I would look for a deadly poison in a short while and kill myself. I couldn’t see in the dark too and only God knows what the hell was in that dark tunnel for her to let me go there alone.
This was a game of wisdom and I need to act and play along except I want my cursed self to be exposed to the world to put my parents in trouble.
Instead of going towards the field, I averted my direction and took the way that led to the tunnel instead, giving them a surprise look. Alveria had to stand up to be sure I wasn’t running away and I expected her to send guards after me, to confirm if I was actually going to the tunnel but she didn’t, which only proved my Instincts.
I walked for what seemed like two minutes and left the field, using the little entrance as I approached the wide huge building that has the shape of a rocket. It was wide, dark and black as if light couldn’t penetrate it. I had to check around if they had any surveillance equipment and CCTV but I saw none.
I used the opportunity and went further to the back and slumped on the floor, making the sun lick my skin.
“This is tricky Lilia, we could get caught if we don’t enter that dark tunnel.” My wolf scolded me but I spread my legs on the sandy soil and sighed, my back resting on the Glass Frame of the exterior part of the building while I fetched a pen knife from my side pocket.
“I know Lee, I’m not stupid and I’m also not going to fall for their stupid tricks to see my downfall.”
I replied, taking the knife and reaching for my fleshy arms and sliced it softly. I wince at the sharp pain and red blood gushed out of my skin.
“What are you doing?” My wolf growled in disappointment and I chuckled.
“Just wait and see, Lee. I’m not risking your life by searching for a non-existent wolfsbane and crown.”
“But she might be right, you haven’t even checked.” My wolf was adamant, scared and worried but I was too jumbled in my actions to back down. If Alveria was a true Priestess she would sense it right away that I didn’t attempt to do her bullshit task.
I slash my other arm again and winced, going for the thigh’s this time and enduring every cut, stab and made sure the blood was smeared all over my body. I checked my wrist watch and it was ten minutes left which made me think of the right words to say.
I thought of what could be in the dark tunnel that could give Alveria the satisfaction of letting me go there and my brain came up with nothing.
Whatever happens back there at that field will happen. I slashed my neck this time and I looked like I was dipped in a bucket of blood.
I practiced my steps this time from the back of the tunnel to the front, making sure to limp. I stared at the entrance of the tunnel and I thought of the things that would have happened if I dared take a step inside. I won’t do that!
This pack was too deadly with bizarre places and punishment to take one’s life.
Looking forward without restraint, I pushed the gate that led to the fall and I saw eyes fill my skin like bees.
They gasped in horror or maybe I was the horror itself. My hair covered half of my face and was clung to my skin from the effect of the sticky fresh blood. I staggered at every move, looking as if any push would knock me out and once my feet landed on the green field. I began to pick.
Slowly at first before I increased my speed, my sight was sharp and made sure that no single item passed me by.
Damn it was too much and too green that it matches with the color of the field to get me confused at first but I didn’t waste a breath. I was forced to pile the wrapped leaflets into my blouse, making sure every stupid thing fita Inside. The alarm from my watch blared informing me that I had just one minute to leave that place and meet the evil pot of stew standing in front or she might scar my tongue.
Taking one last glance around the field that could make me dizzy, I began to walk away but Lee hissed.
“There’s another one at the entrance gate, Lilia. Go now and get it.” I turned my gaze sharply to the last one that paid there and I cursed. Just Thirty seconds and I’ll not meet the time requirements and who knows if that’s the wolf bane. I couldn’t spring into a run. It would convince the people that I had been pretending all along and ignored it and put on a show instead.
Making sure to play with their emotions with a slower, steady pace, looking at their eyeballs with distress as if I’m marking their faces to know that they are part of these evil deeds and when I got to Alveria, who stared at me like a forbidden nightmare.
I dropped to her feet and acted as if I fainted, making the crowd so shocked.
