Contracted to the wrong Alpha
Chapter 46
Lilia’s Pov
****
“What do you want to do with the files, flower?”
He asked me calmly, his arrogant tone of authority was gone and If I didn’t feel these silly feelings in the pit of my stomach then I was bold and stiff like a rock.
His voice wasn’t accusing this time and I didn’t know why I felt relaxed at his gesture. He stood up, walked to the fancy coffee machine, and took a cup. He tore the sachet to empty the contents in the mug before moving over to get a hot dark liquid.
I watched him slowly, he was graceful. His moves were precise and a sudden urge to ask him what happened at the pack overwhelmed me.
I can’t believe I haven’t thanked him yet, he might be an asshole in many ways but I was saved from getting shredded.
“If you keep staring at me that way, I would think the answers to my question are boldly written on my shirt.” He smirked and dropped the mug.
“Drink up, you look drained.”
I frowned deeply.
“Are you trying to poison me?” I asked him and he scoffed amusingly.
“Your imagination is wild, Lilia, don’t worry. I still need you so you’re safe. Just drink up and start talking.”
I sighed in relief and took the cup to my mouth to feel a hot creamy and slightly bitter taste.
“Thanks,” I told him sincerely and he shrugged.
“So you should start talking before the arrest, it’s unfortunate you got fired before you started working.”
He said and I felt unease settle all over me.
“Can you not fire me yet?” I pleaded and he shook his head.
“Don’t take it that I’m acting light Lilia, you won’t work here if you don’t provide me the details of why my money is missing. You said you know something but I don’t believe a shit. You have barely worked here to know a thing.” He told me and sat on his chair, raising his hands to the back of his head and it’s nice to see how relaxed he was. It’s just strange.
“But you believe what your workers tell you?” I scoffed.
“You take their words seriously and push blame instead of Investigating.”
“I don’t, I’ve never believed them because their accusations don’t feel right. If I had believed them then Lucia would have been long gone.”
“But why are acting as if-”
“I believe their accusations?” He asks, twitching his lips.
“I want to catch them unawares, doing that was me giving them the time to relax and to explore. I recorded losses of up to 100 million dollars last year and I couldn’t make a trace even though I know that it was from my staff, I don’t want to create chaos yet as half of my Staff are from Midnight Shade, and creating a reputation to make them pissed off might make me get dethroned as the Alpha then.”
I dropped the mug and listened to him.
“So you’re quiet because of Nepotism fanatics?”
“No flower, I’m quiet because of the company, the country, and my reputation. I could lash out and sack all of them in a row which would grace the headlines tomorrow or lash out with my powers which might get me reported or locked up as it would scare the humans.
New York is very protective of their own and with Midnight Shade taking over, then I might have absolute power and the country might be recognized for a crazy man who assaulted his staff with his powers over a mere loss.” He explained everything and I nodded, now understanding his point.
“So, you’re trying to take things slow at the expense of your company’s growth?”
He chuckled at me and shook his head.
“No, my company will never dwindle. We have resources to last for centuries and with my Dad being the President, the benefits are unlimited. I’m going to tackle them one at a time.”
“But you don’t know how much these people have robbed you! Even the little affiliate you have with other packs is a total waste, nothing was being remitted to the company.
It makes it look as if the company is running on losses instead of a huge chunk of profit.” I told him frustratingly.
He smiled, damn! A very beautiful one at that.
“We are getting somewhere, flower, you seem to know a little more about my company than mine.”
I snorted and shook my head.
“That’s not it ”
“Is that why you took the documents?” He asked and I paused my lips.
I had no right to take what belonged to the company but having an opportunity to have access to different parts of the company as an intern, I thought it was wise to explore. No, I was pissed and pushed to do this as the staff were nonchalant about everything but squandering the company’s resources.
After all, it would be a great feat for me to extend this skill to my own company
if I’m able to connect the dots to why and where the funds were going.
“Will I get punished for that?” I asked him and he twitched his lips.
“You’re already getting punished, you know that’s wrong and you have no business with my company.”
“Well, you started this game when you bought mine! I’m even doing this for your good.”
He chuckled again and shook his head.
“I could hire experts but it’s not bad watching you try, fish out those involved in this crime, and trace the suspicious income flow of the company, I’ll make you my manager.”
He said and my eyes widened.
“Liar!”
“I could change my mind though and why the fuck are you an intern!” His tone suddenly changed to an angry one.
“You were to work as the secretary and not an intern, are you a slave? Why would you wheel coffee to every-”
“Your girlfriend gave me no chance! And besides, a better position is awaiting me so stop it with the attitude, it sucks.” I told him and he wanted to say another word.
“I’ll get it done Lex, I’ll do my best to bring out the best results to be the manager! I’ll kill you if you’re bluffing.”
“Okay, flower. Let’s see what you got.” He grinned and I felt relieved, pushing back the coffee that was now cold.
I was hungry but I didn’t want to get up. I wish he would bring up more topics to argue with cause this would be the longest conversation we have ever had since we met.
I wish he was nicer then we wouldn’t have to argue and act like enemies.
“How did the meeting go at Midnight Shade?” I asked him and his countenance suddenly changed to a grave one.
He sighed and shook his head.
“Nothing serious.”
“It doesn’t seem like it to me, are you going to get punished or will I have to go to the pack as compensation for”
“You won’t go anywhere, Lilia!” He growled and glared at me.
“I’m just saying because it’s the rules.”
“And you’re mine for me to decide! Stop asking me silly questions and leave, you have no right to ask me that.” He retorted and I felt something sharp graze the Insides of my heart painfully.
I had no right, how could I have forgotten about that?
“I’m sorry if I’m prying into your Issue but you pried into mine by saving me. You had no right to and I’m grateful for that okay? So you won’t tell me what right I have to do what would save you a humiliation or war! You killed an Alpha, Lex!”
“We won’t do this Flower, not here. I did what I did due to your stubborn attitude and when I stake a claim on something or someone, I get extremely selfish to let a hair or a scratch befall such a person. So whatever it is that’s happening in the pack or connecting to what happened that night is my cross to carry.”
He stated dismissively and I nodded.
“I hope you keep up with that attitude, I won’t pry again,” I told him and turned to leave.
“Flower?” I stopped, Goodness I hated the way I liked the tone when he called me that, and when I turned to stare at what looked like a key to me and I was swift to catch it.
“Use the blue Porsche car home, Raven won’t be home till evening.”
I gasped.
“What? I should drive your car out of the premises for eyes to the bore holes and kill my soul?”
“It’s an order, fucking walk with those tiny legs of yours and we’ll have a problem.” He uttered and sat down, not flipping through the files as if he had no time for me anymore.
I sighed and shook my head.
He confuses me, he acts so sweet without even knowing it and acts like a devil the next minute. I hope I see the devilish part of him, I do.
