Johnny was taken aback by what he heard.
Was he really communicating with a little kid?
“You intercepted the number?”
“Yeah! Counting on you guys to save me would be too slow,” Jake replied calmly, without any hint of showing off his intelligence. It was as if he was discussing the weather.
It made Johnny look inexperienced!
“Then give me the number.”
Jake glanced at him and suddenly shook his head. “I can’t just give it to you. You couldn’t even find me; I had to come out on my own!”
“…”
“You can trade with me.” Jake squinted and smiled, looking exactly like Ulric, except Ulric never smiled. “I want to use your work computer, okay?”
Johnny didn’t understand what he wanted to do, but seeing how capable he was, he had to be cautious.
“My computer has a lot of important stuff; you can’t just play with it.”
“I’m not asking for it; we’re trading! You want that number, and I want your computer.”
Johnny was stunned by his words.
It actually… made some sense!
“Then tell me first, what do you want my computer for?”
“What can I do? Of course, I want to contact my family.” Jake knew he couldn’t fool him easily, so he played his trump card, blinking innocently. “What does Uncle think I want to do? Do you think I’d steal your computer?”
“No, no, the computer isn’t worth much; I could give it to you!”
“Really? Thanks, Uncle Chow!”
“…”
Johnny pursed his lips, feeling that something was off in their conversation but couldn’t pinpoint what.
Just then, Ulric’s car arrived.
He had come straight over after receiving the call.
Jake’s eyes turned to the car and widened slightly when he saw who got out.
No wonder Mom didn’t dare let him return to the country; they really did look alike.
Ulric felt like he was dreaming when he saw Jake.
There really was a child who looked exactly like him!
He stood there for a long time until Johnny spoke and brought him back to reality. He then walked towards them.
He was thinking about what to say first when Jake spoke up.
“Are you Ulric?”
“Yes.”
Jake looked him up and down and then frowned. “My master was right; handsome guys are always jerks.”
“…” Ulric had never dealt with kids before and didn’t know what to say.
Johnny burst into laughter.
“Ulric, now you know your son’s power! I’m really at a loss for words because of him!”
Ulric stared hard at the little boy in front of him.
He tried to see something in Jake’s face…
Like a trace of someone else.
But Jake looked so much like Ulric that he couldn’t see any signs of Rosalind.
“Did your mom tell you I’m your dad?” Ulric asked cautiously.
Jake pouted. “No.”
“Then what’s your mom’s name?”
That question again.
Jake impatiently scrunched up his little face. “Does it matter? All you need to know is that I’m your son and you need to take me home!”
