In the audience, Nelson sat with Callie and whispered to her, “Do you like this kind of wedding?”
Callie shook her head, “Too flashy, I don’t like it.”
He noted her preference.
On stage, Sienna, as the bride’s parent, gave a speech. She shed tears, expressing her joy for her daughter’s happiness, every word heartfelt and sincere.
Jaquan and Marilyn stood side by side, and everyone thought they were a perfect match.
In the audience, many people murmured, “Is that Nelson’s wife? The woman who was introduced at Marilyn’s birthday party? The one with an average background and looks? Is this a joke?”
“I have to admit, she has something special. No wonder she could captivate Nelson into marrying her…”
“Looking at her now, I’ve completely forgotten what Marilyn looks like…”
Today, Callie had certainly brought pride to Nelson and proved that they were truly a couple…
Nelson wrapped his large hand around the woman’s slender waist and whispered intimately, “A lot of men are looking at you. I don’t like it.”
Callie was being introduced to business partners, smiling and toasting, “I’ve heard Nelson mention you many times.”
In reality, she had never heard of them.
Nelson mischievously pinched her waist, “You’re doing quite well. Can you handle things on your own?”
Callie looked around and nodded, “Probably. You go ahead and take care of your business.”
Marilyn’s wedding was essentially a social event.
As soon as Nelson left, many elegantly dressed socialites surrounded her, “Mrs. Oconnor, long time no see.”
In fact, they had never met before.
They had admired Nelson for a long time and never imagined that such a woman would become his wife.
Seeing her in the spotlight today made them even more resentful.
Callie straightened her back, clutching her handbag, and looked at them, “Hello, do you need something?”
“Nothing much, just wanted to ask Mrs. Oconnor how it feels to turn from a nobody into a somebody?”
Their tone was sharp and sarcastic.
Callie sipped her red wine, her demeanor as regal as a true princess.
“Perhaps you still don’t understand one thing. The ugly duckling becomes a swan because it was always a swan.”
“You!” They were momentarily speechless, unable to find a retort.
Marilyn’s wedding featured a pianist from Scott Group’s newly signed artist roster. Celebrities indeed had their unique charm.
Regan appeared out of nowhere and grabbed Callie’s hand, “How do you feel?”
People nearby were surprised. Did Regan and Callie have a good relationship?
Callie looked at her, “Aren’t you supposed to be toasting?”
“Marilyn doesn’t need me. Don’t you think the atmosphere here feels like a corporate opening ceremony?”
Callie laughed; Regan’s words were always sharp.
At that moment, she accidentally made eye contact with Sienna from a distance. Sienna quickly looked away, leaving Callie momentarily despondent.
Someone whispered behind her, “So what? Didn’t Nelson once disregard Mrs. Oconnor’s feelings for Marilyn?”
“Exactly. They’ll probably divorce sooner or later. Being Mrs. Oconnor isn’t easy.”
Regan wasn’t as tolerant as Callie. She was about to argue when the female star on stage suddenly said into the microphone, “First of all, congratulations to Mr. Scott and Miss Ellison on their marriage!”
Callie asked softly, “I don’t seem to recognize this star.”
Regan glanced at the stage and then chuckled, “Her name is Iyana Hart. She’s Jaquan’s ex-girlfriend. She’s not someone to mess with. Just watch.”
