“Chris, what are you doing here?”
When Hollow Frost saw Chris, his face twisted with rage, his teeth clenched.
Hadn’t he already sent Lord Valerian to kill Chris? How was Chris still alive and well? Lord Valerian, the so-called former Primus of Amerosia, couldn’t even take care of one man. Pathetic.
Hollow Frost’s gaze turned icy as he locked onto Seraphina. “Seraphina, was it you who brought Chris here?”
Seraphina let out a cold snort. “Yes, I brought Chris here. Do you have a problem with that?”
Fuming, Hollow Frost snapped, “Seraphina, don’t you know the rules of the Dragon Order? Bringing an outsider here without permission violates our code. I will report this to Abbot Ethan!”
“Ha!” Seraphina sneered, her face full of disdain. “Hollow Frost, do you really think you’re scaring me? Go ahead and report it to Abbot Ethan. See if I care!”
Without waiting for a response, Seraphina turned to Chris. “Mr. Shelby, let’s not waste time on him. Get in the car.”
Chris hadn’t spared so much as a glance at Hollow Frost. He acted as though the man didn’t even exist.
With a deafening roar, the engine came to life, and Chris and Seraphina drove off in their armored vehicle.
Hollow Frost stood there, watching them leave, his face dark with fury.
“Seraphina,” he muttered through gritted teeth, “don’t think you can do as you please just because your father used to lead the Dragon Order. I’ll make sure Abbot Ethan punishes you for this!”
—
Two hours later, Chris returned to the villa.
As he stepped out of the car, someone emerged from the house.
“Chris!”
The voice was familiar. It was Candace.
Seeing her, Chris raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Candace, what are you doing here?”
“I…” Candace hesitated, her words trailing off as her eyes landed on Seraphina standing beside him.
Her expression hardened.
Seraphina was striking-her figure bold and curvaceous, her attire provocative. She was the kind of woman who radiated trouble.
Candace’s voice grew sharp. “Chris, who is this? I’ve never seen her before.”
Chris smiled warmly. “Candace, let me introduce you. This is Seraphina, my mentor’s daughter.”
But before he could finish, Seraphina interjected with a sly grin. “No need for introductions. Candace Nance, head of the Nance family-one of Middleton’s three great families-and the most beautiful woman in the city. Am I wrong?”
“Hmph!” Candace let out an icy snort but said nothing.
Seraphina turned back to Chris, her expression playful. “Mr. Shelby, you certainly seem popular with women. And not just any women-stunning ones, at that.”
Chris looked flustered, a faint trace of embarrassment crossing his face.
It was true. Nearly every woman in his life-whether Esther, Juliette, or Candace-was exceptionally beautiful.
But Chris only had room in his heart for one. No matter how many women surrounded him, it was Esther who held his soul.
“Mr. Shelby,” Seraphina said, her tone light, “I won’t disturb you any longer. See you around.”
With that, she turned and left.
Chris turned to Candace. “So, what brings you here?”
“Nothing much,” she replied hesitantly. “I just wanted to invite you to dinner.”
Chris rubbed his stomach and chuckled. He was, admittedly, a little hungry.
“Alright, let’s go eat.”
—
The two of them went to a nearby restaurant.
As they entered, all eyes turned to them.
After all, Candace was Middleton’s most celebrated beauty. Wherever she went, she became the center of attention.
The men in the restaurant stared at Chris with envy and resentment. Their gazes practically screamed, “How does he get to be with someone like her?”
Chris and Candace sat down, and soon, their table was filled with delicious dishes.
But before they could start eating, a woman in a white dress approached their table and sat down beside Chris.
She leaned in, batting her eyelashes seductively. “Hey, handsome. Mind if I join you?”
Chris raised an eyebrow, a faint smirk playing on his lips. “Join me?”
Before he could say more, a man dressed in black stormed over.
“You shameless woman!” the man bellowed. “You’re out here seducing men again?”
The woman clung to Chris’s arm, her voice trembling with fear. “Please, handsome, help me! He’ll kill me if you don’t!”
Chris suddenly burst into laughter.
“Are you two done with this little act? Honestly, your performance is terrible.”
At his words, the color drained from both their faces.
The man in black narrowed his eyes. “Chris, as expected of a Primus. I guess it was too much to hope you’d fall for our trick.”
Chris’s voice turned cold. “Who are you? And who sent you?”
The man sneered. “Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Shadow, and this is my dear wife, Light. Together, people call us the Twins. We’re two of the four elite assassins recruited by Prince Daniel. And today, we’ve come to kill you.”
With a roar, the couple lunged at Chris, daggers flashing in their hands.
The Twins were ranked fourth among Amerosia’s most dangerous cultivators. Together, they’d slain countless enemies.
Chris leapt into the air, narrowly avoiding their blades.
He smirked. “Just the two of you? I thought Daniel Williams recruited four assassins. Where are the other two?”
Shadow cackled. “Chris, killing you is a two-person job. Why bother sending all four of us?”
“Is that so?” Chris’s voice grew sharp. “Then show me if you have what it takes to kill me.”
In an instant, his aura flared, crackling with raw power.
The fight erupted.
The restaurant descended into chaos as customers fled in terror.
Candace had already taken cover in a safe corner. She knew she was no match for the Twins and could only watch from a distance.
“Chris, die!”
The Twins moved with deadly precision, their strikes relentless and brutal.
Chris snorted, his fists coiling with energy.
With a powerful punch, he struck out.
Bang!
Bang!
The sound of impact echoed through the restaurant as the Twins were sent flying, crashing into the walls.
