Sabrina’s POV
Amidst the chaos of the battlefield, the scent of blood lingers in the air, a grim reminder of the lives lost and the families left to mourn. Among the fallen, I find myself burdened with the overwhelming guilt of saving only one man while countless others suffer. Yet, I cannot bear the thought of losing Xander, for he is the reason I endure any hardship life throws my way.
Despite the weight on my shoulders, I soldier on, determined to keep Xander alive. The ache in my heart intensifies, knowing I cannot have him as my own, but I force myself to endure, believing it is for the greater good. Without him by my side, life loses its meaning, and I feel like a living corpse, unable to escape the despair that engulfs me.
Every step I take is a painful reminder of the fallen soldiers, whose lives have been cut short by the senseless violence. I offer my gratitude for their sacrifices and guide their souls to peace, all while seeking out my beloved amidst the blood-stained field.
As I find him lying on the ground, I witness the torment etched on his face, and my heart breaks. The enemy surrounds him, ridiculing and mocking him for being a pure bred lycan, his strength diminished by the weight of his own pain. I cannot bear to see him suffer like this, and my wolf takes over, unleashing a fury of vengeance upon his tormentors.
“Xander?” I say but it came out barely a whisper as the tears stain my face. Taking in his bruises, he was battered… a sight I never thought I would see on him because he was a fighter.
Drawing upon my powers, I heal Xander, but as I do, I realize that his pain runs deeper than the physical wounds of war. His heart is shattered, and the intensity of his despair engulfs me. I become one with his anguish, experiencing the depth of his sorrow as if it were my own.
In that moment of shared agony, I see the stars and feel myself slipping into darkness. His pain consumes me, and I understand the extent of his suffering. I have broken him, and the weight of that realization is too much to bear. My own heart shatters, and as I drift into the void that is Xander’s life, I know that I must find a way to mend both our souls. But in this tragic tale, the road to redemption is fraught with obstacles, and the future remains uncertain as we navigate the treacherous path ahead.
It dawns on me that sometimes even the strongest ones need saving sometimes and this was the time for Xander. He, like me, had been pretending all along and providing comfort to me but his pain supersedes mine because today I finally know that he loves me way more than I ever loved him.
As quickly as I felt his pain, it drifted away, but the scars it left on my heart were deep and everlasting. The agony he endured in those mere seconds felt like a lifetime of torment. I knew then that saving his life had only added to his suffering, for he would now have to carry this pain with him every waking moment and every night he lays his head on the pillow.
I opened my eyes to find myself cradled in Xander’s arms. His eyes held relief, even though he knew I couldn’t die in the conventional sense. My existence was cursed with longevity, condemned to witness countless years while he only had a few precious ones left.
“Hi,” I managed to say, my voice weak and shaky, as if I had slept for a century.
In that moment, the world around us faded away, and the horrors of the war seemed distant. All that mattered was him-his face, his heartbeat, and the warmth of his touch. I was overjoyed to see him alive, but that joy was tainted by the knowledge that his time was running out.
“Hey,” Xander replied softly, his fingers brushing gently against my cheek, treating me as delicately as a fragile flower.
In the distance, I could still hear the screams, howls, and the sickening thuds of bodies hitting the ground, never to rise again. Seeing Xander alive, my senses sharpened, connecting me to my people and their suffering. He helped me to my feet, and together, as one, we faced the heart-wrenching reality of the battlefield.
I shifted into my wolf form and let out a growl that shook the earth, scattering the remaining birds in the sky. The violence ceased, and all eyes turned to me, their moon goddess, seeking guidance. Shifting back into human, I felt the need to speak.
“Why must you kill each other?” I roared, my voice resonating like thunder. “Look around you! Your brothers have fallen, and I must send them to their peace. What of their families?”
My voice was filled with grief and disappointment, but also with anger at the senseless violence that had claimed so many lives. As I continued, my words carried the weight of a heart that had witnessed too much pain.
“Enough of this madness. I have heard your prayers, and I am filled with disdain, sorrow, and anger. I feel nothing good from this bloodshed, and how dare you use my name to justify your greed and lack of heart?! How dare you pray to me as if I am the one who sowed the seeds of such malice? I should wipe you all out and start anew!”
Xander stood by my side, his presence calming me as I tried to reign in the tempest within me. I closed my eyes, focusing on my wolf’s strength to steady myself.
“The war is over,” I declared, my voice firm but heavy with sadness. “You have not won anything, for the king still lives. Go to your homes and be grateful that I allow your hearts to continue beating. Tell your children that I have spared you, but I won’t overlook this again. You have been warned-the king has my protection because I placed him in power. If you have a problem with it, take it up with me.”
Kneeling down, I placed my palms on the blood-stained grass, and one by one, the lost souls passed through me, gone forever. The weight of their absence crushed me-so many lives lost, so many families torn apart. My heart ached, for I had once been one of them, just a beta’s daughter with the potential to lose a loved one today.
In my position of power, wealth, and strength, I was blessed beyond the natural order of a wolf. And I vowed to use that privilege to save my loved ones or those they held dear, time and time again.
“Sabrina, what have you done?” Josey screams upon seeing me with Xander but as Josey’s panicked voice broke through my thoughts, reality crashed upon me, and I realized the consequences of my actions. I was in grave trouble, and the tears that fell from my eyes were a testament to the heavy price of love and sacrifice.
