Seeing that Rosalind still didn’t speak, Malcolm decided to use his last resort.
“Sigh, I have a stomach problem! The doctor said I can’t go hungry.”
With him saying this, what else could Rosalind say?
Even though she knew these were all excuses, Malcolm just wanted her to go out and not stay cooped up in the room alone.
“Thank you, Malcolm.”
“I should be the one thanking you for accompanying me to dinner. Let’s go.”
…
At night, it was already quiet outside.
The room, which had its lights off, suddenly lit up!
Floyd, who was sleeping, was startled awake. She groggily opened her eyes and saw her brother sitting at the table doing something.
She stretched and shuffled over in her slippers. “What are you doing?”
Jake glanced at her and slapped his forehead. “I forgot you were here! I’m sending data to my master.”
He showed Floyd what he was holding.
But she couldn’t understand it; it just looked like a bunch of messy data to her.
“Who is your master?”
“My master is amazing!” Jake’s eyes lit up at the mention of his master. “He’s the best hacker. No one is better than him!”
“Wow!” Floyd clapped her hands in admiration. “Can I meet him?”
“No way. He doesn’t let people meet him.” Jake continued fiddling with his stuff.
Floyd lost her sleepiness and pulled up a chair to sit beside him.
Floyd was reluctant to sleep now that her brother was around. She held onto his shirt tightly, afraid he would leave.
“Why did you suddenly come here?”
Jake paused and pursed his lips. “To find our deadbeat dad.”
“Deadbeat dad?”
“The one who fathered us but doesn’t want us!”
Floyd tried to understand the relationship but mainly didn’t get what ‘deadbeat dad’ meant. However, it didn’t stop her from siding with her brother.
“Anyone you don’t like, I don’t like either.”
“Hey, Floyd, have you seen him?” Jake suddenly turned to look at her.
Floyd shook her head. “No.”
She didn’t even know who he was talking about, so how could she have seen him?
“I’ll find a photo for you!”
Jake swiped his fingers across the screen a few times and found a picture of Ulric.
He showed it to Floyd for a few seconds before she suddenly shouted-
“Ah! That’s the uncle who cheated me out of five dollars!”
“You’ve seen him?”
Jake nodded vigorously. “Yes! He took my five dollars, said he’d buy me candy, then Mommy called me back and he never gave me the five dollars!”
“He even cheats kids out of five dollars; he’s definitely a deadbeat dad!”
Floyd immediately understood. “So that’s what deadbeat dad means. No doubt about it, he’s a deadbeat dad! Do you know where he is? Can you get my five dollars back?”
That was hard-earned money for her!
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get justice! I’m currently looking through his company’s data to see if there’s anything we can use against him.”
Floyd didn’t understand data but knew what defeating someone meant.
So late into the night, Jake searched for flaws while Floyd cheered him on from the side.
Until dawn approached, Jake still found nothing…
Unwilling to give up, he thought of other ways to proceed.
Floyd had already fallen asleep in the chair and even drooled! But even so, she didn’t let go of his shirt.
Jake glanced at his sister and sighed helplessly.
He initially thought of taking her along for revenge, but seeing this made him realize it would be too troublesome! Better forget it.
