Kieran stepped out of the car, walking briskly towards Callie. His first words were, “Mr. Oconnor is in trouble.”
He spoke in a low voice, ensuring no one else could hear.
With so many people protecting Nelson, what could possibly go wrong?
Callie frowned, remembering how fine he had been just yesterday. “What happened?”
“He has a high fever that won’t go down.”
There was a moment of silence.
Callie observed Kieran’s face closely. He seemed to have come in a hurry, with fine beads of sweat on his forehead.
He used to be the most unruly, showing no respect for Nelson. Now, he seemed genuinely worried.
“And what does that have to do with me? I’m not a doctor,” she said coldly.
Kieran looked anxious. “He’s been calling your name… Please come with me. He refuses to take any medicine, and it’s dangerous.”
Nelson had caught a chill last night, and with his wounds still unhealed, he fell ill the next day.
He was delirious with fever and refused to see a doctor, constantly calling out Callie’s name.
Anthony had sent Kieran to fetch her urgently.
Callie thought she could finally have some peace today. Learning she had to see Nelson again, she was naturally reluctant. “Kieran, you need to understand something. I have no obligation to take care of him. When someone is sick, they should see a doctor, not come to me with nonsense.”
Kieran remained firm. “While you were gone, he spent two months searching for you in Osegow, using up resources and manpower. Since you returned, he’s been busy with your studio’s affairs… He hasn’t had a good night’s sleep and stood outside your building all night last night…”
He stood outside all night?
Callie frowned slightly. “Did I ask him to do any of that?”
Kieran was stunned into silence, realizing he might have come to the wrong person today. He nodded slightly and turned to leave.
Watching his dejected figure, Callie remembered seeing Nelson turn away last night and unconsciously clenched her sleeve.
Just as Kieran was about to open the car door, she suddenly called out, “Wait! I’ll go with you!”
Kieran stopped immediately, turning back with joy.
Nelson was still in the hotel room.
The doctor had been driven out by Nelson and wasn’t allowed back in. The staff looked relieved upon seeing Callie. She pressed her lips together. “Come in with me.”
No one knew the layout and items in this room better than Callie.
The floor was a mess, filled with things Nelson had thrown in anger.
Carefully, Callie walked over and saw Nelson lying on the bed, burning with fever. He was in pain, his arm red and his whole body trembling slightly. His lips were pale, and his breathing was heavy.
Seeing him like this confirmed her expectations of his stubbornness.
Callie had the doctor examine him. The thermometer read 39. 4 degrees Celsius.
The doctor administered an antipyretic injection. Nelson frowned tightly, likely feeling the pain.
Callie watched the entire time. As Nelson’s fever began to subside, the doctor prescribed some medicine and instructed her, “Give him these with warm water. Make sure he takes them. I’ll be outside; call me if anything happens.”
Callie took the medicine. The water she had boiled earlier had cooled down by now.
“Thank you, doctor.”
The doctor knew Nelson well; he was the backbone for many people and couldn’t afford to fall ill.
“Mrs. Oconnor, take good care of him.”
Following the doctor’s instructions, Callie took the medicine and sat by the bed. She struggled to half-lift Nelson and leaned him against herself. “Nelson, wake up. Take the medicine first. It’s me.”
