Sitting in the peaceful Evans mansion, Skylar enjoyed the warmth of the sun, but her fingers shook with anger as she scrolled through Twitter. The hateful comments made her frustration boil over. She couldn’t take it anymore. With a quick motion, she threw her new phone to the ground, shattering it with a loud crash.
“What the hell! Who do you think you are, talking about Dave and me like that? Just because I might not be good enough for him doesn’t mean any of you are!”
In her mind, she was the only one who deserved Dave’s love.
Skylar thought to herself, ‘Lucas had promised to keep everything about the ceremony quiet. So, who leaked the news? Who had the nerve to go against the powerful Evans family?’
Skylar’s eyes widened when she came across Blake’s interview online.
She immediately blamed Bianca! Bianca had taken her man, humiliated her in public, and even had her signed actor spread rumors about her!
Furious, Skylar stood up, quickly wiping away a tear before storming off.
In the living room, Lucas was sitting casually, reading a newspaper, when Skylar burst in.
“Mr. Evans…” As soon as Skylar entered the room, she rushed towards him. Her swollen eyes, filled with tears, pulled at his heartstrings.
“Mr. Evans, I’m the laughingstock on the internet. I fear I can’t be Dave’s wife without bringing shame to him. He deserves someone much better,” Skylar said, her voice shaking with a mix of fragility and sadness.
Then, to Lucas’s shock, she knelt before him and said, “Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’ll always remember your kindness. I’ve made up my mind. I’m going back to Mubluosia. I can’t stay here or keep looking after you. Please take care of yourself. I don’t think I’ll ever come back. I’m just too embarrassed.”
Lucas, confused by her sudden decision, furrowed his brow and asked, “What’s going on, Skylar? Tell me what’s bothering you. Remember, I’m here for you, no matter what.”
Skylar wiped her tears, seeking comfort, and cried, “Someone leaked details about the engagement party online, saying I’m unworthy of Dave. They’re calling me a gold digger, saying Dave’s absence that night means he doesn’t care about me. They think he was forced into our engagement.”
Lucas’s concern deepened at her words, and Skylar let out a bitter smile. “Don’t worry, Mr. Evans. I’m used to this kind of treatment. But I don’t want to be a burden on Dave or your family…”
Upon hearing that, Lucas quickly set aside his newspaper and signaled for the butler to come over.
The butler was asked to recount the events in detail. Lucas’s agitation grew, and he demanded, “Weren’t you in charge of the ceremony and everything involved? How did someone manage to post about it online? Is it really so hard to control things? Do you want to lose your job? Explain this right now!”
The butler wiped his forehead nervously. “I followed your orders to suppress the news, but I didn’t expect this leak today. Everyone knows the influence of the Evans family; it’s shocking that someone would challenge us.”
“It’s not his fault, Mr. Evans. The leak came from Blake’s interview,” Skylar interjected just in time.
Lucas frowned and asked, “Blake? Who is this person? What position does he hold?”
“Blake Lawson is a celebrity under Bianca’s agency, and he’s been getting a lot of attention lately. I don’t know how he and Bianca managed to crash the engagement party, but in his interview, he mentioned Dave’s absence. I suspect Bianca directed the reporters to ambush the event. What is she up to?” Skylar explained, knowing exactly how to manipulate the situation.
Skylar knew Lucas didn’t like Bianca, so she saw an opportunity to blame everything on her. If she could convince Lucas that Bianca had orchestrated the media ambush, perhaps Lucas would handle it for her.
“Bianca, always Bianca!” Skylar said, with a hint of frustration.
Lucas’s face darkened when he heard Bianca’s name. He slammed his cane on the floor, coughing in his agitation. Skylar gently patted his back, urging him softly, “Please calm down, Mr. Evans.”
To Lucas, Bianca had always been a thorn in his side, causing nothing but trouble. Her manipulation had once involved Justin in overpaying for a necklace, damaging the Evans family’s reputation. Now, it seemed like she was escalating her schemes. Was this her way of getting back at him for standing between her and her ambitions?
Skylar couldn’t help but sneer inside. How could Bianca keep provoking Lucas like this? She was clearly asking for trouble. It was like challenging a lion in its own den! Even if Bianca tried to go after her, Skylar was confident Bianca didn’t stand a chance.
No one had ever dared challenge Lucas so boldly, especially not someone like Bianca, who only ran an agency.
Lucas pointed directly at the butler and ordered, “I don’t want Bianca or her agency anywhere near the entertainment industry. Make sure they disappear, along with that Blake! They’ll regret disrespecting us. You know what needs to be done.”
Skylar smirked, feeling relieved. With Bianca making Lucas this angry, there was no way she could escape trouble. No miracle could save her now. No matter how capable she was, her reputation was beyond saving.
The butler quickly understood and hurried off. Lucas turned to Skylar, speaking softly, “Don’t blame yourself, Skylar. You’re not the one at fault here. Dave is the one who messed up. Just stay here, and I’ll make sure Dave apologizes as soon as he returns.”
Even though Skylar felt pleased inside, she kept her expression sad. Her eyes were red, giving her a look of helplessness. “Mr. Evans, does Dave not care about me? Does he not want to marry me? It’s okay; I don’t want to pressure anyone. Maybe it’s best if the engagement is called off so he can find happiness with someone else. I just want you both to be happy.”
Lucas’s face darkened. “How dare he refuse you? Don’t worry, Skylar. You’re the one who’s meant to be Dave’s wife.”
“But he’s avoiding me right now,” Skylar said, her voice soft. “I know he values your opinion. But since I can’t even talk to him, it seems…” She furrowed her brow and sighed, hinting that she wanted to connect with Dave but couldn’t even speak to him directly. She was hoping Lucas could help solve the problem.
“Leave it to me. I have a plan,” Lucas replied confidently. “I’ve arranged for you to work at Phoenix Alliance Group as Dave’s personal secretary. You’ll be together every day, and it will help your relationship. Don’t worry; he’ll come around.”
