An Important Piece

Ella was about to take some plates from the kitchen cabinet when she heard the question and she stopped in her tracks.
She stopped what she was doing as she contemplated on whether she should tell them the truth or not.
She wanted to tell them the truth, but she decided against it because she knew that would be a trap as it would only lead to more questions that she did not have the guts to answer, at least, for now.
“No sweetie, it’s not about your dad.” She lied.
She saw that they were about to ask another question so she quickly cut them off.
“No more questions! Now go brush your teeth or you won’t go with me to the airport to pick uncle Fabian!” Ella threatened them.
She heard them gasp at her threat and they quickly ran to the bathroom.
“Phew! That was close!” Ella heaved in relief.
She was not ready to tell them about their dad because they had a role to play in her revenge.

“Mom, how long would it take for uncle Fabian to get here?” Liam whined.
“Yeah! We have gotten prepared since and we are yet to leave the house.” Leo added.
The boys could be a handful sometimes and Ella would sometimes feel like locking them up in their rooms so she could have some peace of mind.
“Well, your uncle Fabian just texted me that his flight has been cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow Monday!” Ella informed the boys.
“Ugh!” They both groaned in displeasure.
“I know boys! I know you don’t like how this turned out but let me make it up to you!” Ella appealed to them.
“How?” They both asked in unison.
“Since today is Sunday, why don’t we go out and have fun before I resume work tomorrow and before you start school tomorrow!” Ella suggested.
The two boys looked at themselves and used their eyes to communicate with each other. Ella noticed it and felt a pang of jealousy.
She and her sister Tania once had that kind of bond that it was almost telepathic.
They knew when any of them were hurt and when any of them were not happy. Back when they were still teenagers in high school, they were inseparable even with the age gap between them.
It was their closeness and the deep love she had for Tania that made her betrayal very painful. Surprisingly, Ella was still not aware that Tania was the one behind her accident. She was only angry because Tania got married to her cheating husband Ethan.
But Ella was having a gut feeling that Tania knew what had happened to her and she was going to get to the bottom of it.
“Alright Mommy, we will go to the amusement Park!” They announced in Unison.
“Woah! That’s a nice idea! Since we are already dressed, let’s go now.” Ella said.
“Yeeee!” The boys screamed in happiness.
Ella drove them in her car and when they got to the park, they were in awe to see that it was bigger than the park at their small town.
“Woah! This is big!” Leo enthused.
“Yes, way bigger than the one back in our town!” Liam agreed.
“Of course! I told you guys that you will surely enjoy coming to New York.” Ella used the opportunity to try to convince them again concerning their relocation to New York.
“Well, New York might not be bad after all.” The boys agreed.
Ella smiled in triumph as she parked their car in the parking space provided by the park.
“Alright guys, come with me let’s go buy our tickets.” Ella told the boys.
They went together to the section where they were to get their tickets. The lady in charge of the tickets sales informed them about the different tickets and their price range and their limitations.
Ella wanted her boys to enjoy the day to the fullest so she bought the premium ticket that had access to everything in the park with no limitations. The three tickets cost her but it was worth it to her.
The boys were very excited as they tried out the different games section in the park. They also tried the roller coaster that got them screaming in pleasure.
Afterwards, they decided to get ice cream and pizza before they went to the pool to swim.
They spent the whole day at the Amusement Park and when it was past seven, they left. By the time they got home, they were already exhausted that the only thing they could do was to take their bath and eat the takeout food that Ella has wisely decided to buy because she knew that she would be too tired to make dinner when they got back home.

The next morning which was Monday, Ella got up early and woke the boys up. It was their first day at school and her first day at work so she did not want them to be late.
The boys knew the urgency at hand so they cooperated with her and they all got ready in time.
Ella first drove them to the school so she could register them. The school was one of the best schools in the area and it was the school she and Ethan had planned to take their kids to when they give birth before the whole incident cut short their plans.
When they got to the school, Ella felt a wave of nostalgia hit her as memories of how she used to come to the school and envision her child going to the school with Ethan by her side.
She actually was finally able to bring her kids to the school but unfortunately, Ethan was not by her side.
Ella was about to drive into the parking space provided by the school when she saw Ethan dropping off a little girl. He kissed her on her forehead before driving off.
Ella felt her heart become constricted because she knew that the little girl was Ethan and Tania’s daughter.
“Hey boys.” She turned to the twins.
“Yes mom.” They answered.
Ella pointed at the little girl.
“You see that little girl, you must try to make her your friend.” Ella told her boys.
“Because she is an important piece in my game!” Ella muttered to herself.
