He missed Rosalind. He also missed every moment they had spent together in this house. If it weren’t for the influence of alcohol, he probably would never have said these words. He had to admit that in this battle with Rosalind, he had lost completely and utterly, to the point where he could never get back up again.
Cedric could sense his complex emotions just by hearing those words. The disappointment and helplessness were truly heartbreaking.
“Mr. Walters, stop thinking about it.”
“Yes, I won’t think about it anymore,” Ulric nodded obediently, a bitter smile on his thin lips. “I won’t think about it.”
Cedric sighed, “Let’s go back and rest. You are drunk, and you have work tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
“What is the password for your door lock? I’ll open it for you, and you can change it tomorrow.”
Seeing Mr. Walters’ current state, Cedric doubted he could remember the password.
Ulric’s tall figure swayed slightly. “The password is… the initials of Walters and Ruell, plus the day we first became desk mates-August 25th, 0825.”
“…”
Cedric didn’t know whether to admire his boss’s deep affection or to criticize his stubbornness.
The door lock opened smoothly. When Cedric turned around to help Ulric, he found him already sitting on the steps at the entrance of the villa. His shadow stretched long under the moonlight, making him appear even more lonely and desolate.
“Mr. Walters…”
“Cedric, I have an idea.”
“Go ahead.”
“If I threatened Rosalind with my life, would she come back to me?”
“… Not necessarily. I don’t know what Taylor thinks of you.”
“Then what if I used all means to keep her by my side?”
After saying this, Ulric laughed self-deprecatingly. “I don’t want to be a gentleman anymore. I just want her.”
Being a gentleman was exhausting. He didn’t want to consider morality anymore or whether Rosalind loved him or not. He could barely control himself; he only wanted to take Rosalind back.

It was also late at night.
Rosalind remained seated on the bench at the bus stop without moving. It seemed like saying those words had drained all her strength, leaving her unable to take another step.
She knew Ulric would be heartbroken. She knew her words had hurt him deeply. But they were divorced now, and she carried the burden of avenging her mother. He had just announced his marriage; she couldn’t give him any hope.
Her phone rang repeatedly.
Finally, when it was almost out of battery, Rosalind answered the call.
The voice on the other end was anxious. “Rosalind, why haven’t you been answering your phone? I’ve been so worried about you!”
“Malcolm, I’m fine.”
“What did Ulric say to you? Did he find out anything?”
“No, I said a lot of harsh things to him, and he hung up the phone. He probably doesn’t suspect anything.”
Malcolm sighed. “You’re regretting saying those harsh things to him, aren’t you?”
“…”
“Rosalind, I want you to be happy. I believe your mother would want that too. Otherwise-”
“There’s no other option, Malcolm. I can’t ask him to send his parents to prison for murder because of me.”
“Sigh! Then let’s not think about it anymore. Floyd and Jake are waiting for you.”
Rosalind wiped her tears hastily. “I might not have a ride back tonight; I’ll return tomorrow!”
“Silly girl, do you think I’d really leave you alone in Northville City?” Malcolm chuckled. “Rosalind, look to your right.”
