The phone’s ringtone sounded so clear at that moment, each note like a heavy hammer striking Rosalind’s heart.
In those few seconds, she wanted to end the call and block the number multiple times, not wanting to deal with anything related to Ulric. But to protect her child, she couldn’t avoid it.
Rosalind knew that if she didn’t face it openly, suspicion would naturally fall on her.
When the dialing screen turned into a string of timed numbers, she finally heard that familiar yet somewhat strange voice.
He didn’t say hello but directly said, “Rosalind.”
Rosalind felt her heartbeat pounding uncontrollably, causing her to frown in discomfort, but she had to pretend to be calm and indifferent.
“Hello, you called me earlier? Sorry, I didn’t hear it. Who is this?”
Ulric didn’t speak immediately but laughed first.
“I don’t believe you can’t recognize my voice.”
His tone was always so certain, so precise.
It wasn’t a question or a joke; it was a statement.
“…” Rosalind didn’t know how to respond for a moment.
Because in front of Ulric, it seemed like all her secrets and thoughts could not be hidden.
Ulric didn’t wait long for her response. Seeing her silence, he spoke directly, “I want to meet you.”
“I have nothing to say to you. It’s unnecessary.”
“I went to the hospital and checked your medical records.”
Rosalind froze instantly, her heartbeat stopping abruptly!
She knew that if Ulric went to the hospital, it must be because of the trouble planted when Johnny was encountered there.
Her excuse at that time was indeed not clever; it was very clumsy! She was too anxious and couldn’t think of a better explanation.
If Jake hadn’t appeared suddenly, Rosalind thought she might have fooled Johnny back then. Now that Ulric had uncovered it, Johnny must have realized something was wrong too.
“And then?” Rosalind tried to keep her voice as calm as possible without any fluctuations.
But in reality, she had to press her hand against her chest to calm herself down!
It felt like being punched several times, suffocating…
“Then your records were deleted.”
Rosalind breathed a sigh of relief immediately.
It seemed Sirena did a thorough job and even cleared that up.
“Your parents want me completely out of your life. Deleting my records is normal. What exactly do you want to say?”
“The child.” Ulric didn’t beat around the bush. “Did you have a boy?”
Rosalind’s just-relaxed heart tightened again.
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
“A little boy who looks a lot like me came to W Group and claimed he’s my son.”
“Oh? Congratulations then, Mr. Walters. You’re a father.” Rosalind chuckled lightly. “But there’s no need to specifically tell me this, right? As your ex-wife, I’ve already severed ties with you.”
“Rosalind, you know what I’m asking!”
“I don’t know!” Rosalind immediately retorted. “Mr. Walters, don’t you think your current persistence is quite unattractive? I made things very clear during our divorce. Now you bring up some supposed son and call me about it. Can I interpret this as you trying to find an excuse to talk to me?”
There was a long silence on Ulric’s end.
When he spoke again, his tone had returned to its usual coldness. “As long as the child isn’t yours with me, that’s all I needed to know.”
