Callie stiffened slightly, knowing what he was asking about. “It’s fine.”
“That hat was mine,” he explained awkwardly, feeling sorry for causing her to be the subject of public opinion.
Callie wasn’t surprised. “I know. In that situation, Marilyn could only frame me.”
She looked up. “You really went to see Sienna. What did she say?”
Jaquan sneered. “What else could she say? She didn’t believe it at first. After my persuasion, she finally agreed to check the basement. I guess even she couldn’t believe her own son could be so brutal.”
“Brutal…” Callie’s gaze became distant. “In a wealthy family, who isn’t brutal?”
Regan had once told her a story about a significant boss in Ylosea, who was always physically weak but loved to torment people because of his wealth and power. Once, during an overseas inspection, his secretary found him an interesting woman for five days at two million dollars. This woman had seen it all but could only last two days before being carried out on a stretcher and hospitalized for a month.
Ordinary people having quirks is not a big deal, but if that person has some power, the despicable means multiply.
After finishing her story, Callie looked at Jaquan. “I’ve always thought you were that kind of person too.”
Jaquan met her gaze and raised an eyebrow. “You seem to think you know me well.”
“Are you?”
Despite Jaquan’s carefree and charming demeanor, if he played around, he would certainly be wild.
“Want to find out if I am? Try it yourself.”
This touched a nerve. Callie’s smile faded as she cleared her throat. Nelson’s call wasn’t over yet.
She thought for a moment and changed the topic. “Is the project Scott Group recently took complicated?”
Jaquan immediately understood her meaning and kept smiling. “You’re Mrs. Oconnor. If I tell you confidential information, wouldn’t that make me a traitor?”
There was a hint of sarcasm in his words, and Callie instantly felt he was bothered by that night… when Nelson publicly acknowledged her…
In the brief moment of distraction, Nelson finished his call and turned around to see this scene.
Both their expressions were playful, clearly distant yet with an inexplicable mutual understanding that stung Nelson’s eyes.
Almost instantly, rage surged in his heart.
At this moment, a voice called out, “Nelson.”
Looking past them, it was Sienna holding something, here to visit Regan.
Hearing the voice, Jaquan and Callie turned around at the same time, facing her.
Callie instinctively stepped back. Although she knew Sienna must have seen her that night, she didn’t know how to interact with her now.
Nelson stepped forward, took Callie’s hand, and pulled her behind him. “Sienna, you’re here.”
Sienna’s calm eyes glanced at him and then at Callie. “Yes.”
“You sent someone to pick them up that night.”
“Yes.”
Sienna nodded, turned to put the things in the ward, and then came back out. She said to Callie, “Come with me for a moment.”
Callie instinctively took a step but was held back by Nelson. “Sienna, Callie is shy. If you have something to say, please say it here.”
She looked up at his profile while trying to break free from his grip.
Sienna heard this and gave a faint cold laugh. “Nelson, ask her yourself if she’s afraid of me.”
“Sienna, I’ll come right away,” Callie quickly broke free from his grasp.
