At the same time, Judith walked into the 8th floor of the Whiteville Hospital and saw Kameron in a regular ward. There were four police officers inside and outside the room.
Two of them were questioning Kameron, who was rubbing the mole on his ear and answering their questions in good spirits.
When Judith walked in, everyone stood up together. “Captain Meech.”
Judith nodded in response and then smiled at Kameron. “Kameron, did you sleep well? Are you feeling okay?”
Kameron smiled and replied, “I’m fine. Just a little dizzy. The rest of the tests came back normal.”
He patted his head and then habitually touched the mole next to his ear, which he had had for over twenty years.
Kameron didn’t use a laser to remove it because he liked to joke that it made him smart. But today, for some reason, it was causing him some pain.
He thought it was just a side effect of being knocked out, so he casually said, “I can be discharged tomorrow.”
“It’s good that you’re okay. You’re my right-hand man,” Judith said with a slight nod.
The four police officers didn’t object and handed their testimonies to Judith before leaving the room.
“Kameron, did you not feel anything before you were attacked?” Judith asked as she glanced at the testimonies, which had no useful information. “For example, the person who knocked you out, his aura, height, voice, etc.”
Kameron rubbed the still slightly painful mole and replied with a bitter smile, “Captain Meech, I really didn’t feel anything. I was sitting in the driver’s seat reporting to you when I felt someone approaching from behind. But before I could turn around or see clearly, he knocked me out directly. I really had no defense at all.”
“After all, no one would expect an attack on the police in broad daylight.”
“He didn’t make any sound or have any special scent. When I woke up again, I was in a janitor’s closet. My police uniform had been taken off and my gun was gone.”
Kameron hesitated for a moment and then asked, “Captain Meech, did he steal my police car and gun to do something bad?”
“Can you tell me the truth?”
His old face showed some anxiety, and even the mole on his ear felt more painful.
“Those guys are all evasive and won’t tell me anything about the case. They say it’s not convenient for them to tell me and that only you can explain.”
Judith sighed softly, “They don’t tell you because the case is quite big.”
She looked at Kameron with gentle eyes and informed him of something beyond the news. “Yesterday, there was a gang fight at Genesis House. Samson gathered over a hundred skilled fighters and mercilessly attacked a dozen nameless underlings. They fought from residential areas all the way to the warehouse, and Samson finally cornered a few remaining opponents.”
“The other side was formidable. Based on the scene, it appears that the remaining few people managed to defeat Samson’s eighty men.”
Kameron was slightly surprised. “That strong? Samson is not only a member of the Crow but also the leader of the Axe.”
“The evidence at the scene indeed shows that the other side was powerful and severely injured Samson’s subordinates. However, these few people are also on their last legs,” Judith said without hiding anything from Kameron.
“When Samson wanted to kill them, someone drove your police car into the scene.”
“This person not only used your police car to intimidate everyone but also shot nine members of the Axe. The tenth shot hit Samson’s shoulder.”
Kameron’s face was full of shock. “Ten shots without missing a single one! He used my police car and gun to save the remaining few people?”
Judith calmly continued, “He used the police car to crash through the back door while several accomplices wearing oxygen masks took advantage of the chaos to escape.”
“What’s even more puzzling is that they were seriously injured, so they shouldn’t have been able to escape from the Whiteville River. But they did escape.”
Judith let out a long breath. “Of course, he ambushed you and stole your police car and gun not just to save people.”
“His true intention is to use your uncertain fate to provoke the police, prompting us to mobilize a large force to Genesis House.”
“Not only does it create an atmosphere for saving lives, but it also prepares him to eliminate witnesses.”
Kameron’s body stiffened. “Eliminate witnesses?”
Judith nodded. “When the police surrounded Genesis House, Samson and his crew were cornered and had no choice but to surrender. Halfway out, someone from inside opened fire on the police, injuring several officers and a sniper. The headlights of the car in front of me were also blown out.”
“In the face of such violent resistance, the police had no choice but to retaliate, leading to the deaths of Samson and his gang.”
“But afterward, I realized I had been used. Not a single officer was killed. All the bullets hit their bulletproof vests.”
“The purpose of the shooting was to provoke a police response, using our force to eliminate Samson and his crew.”
Kameron was completely shocked. “This guy is so cunning.”
“While I don’t have much information about this person, the landlord died in the chaos, all the Axe members who had seen him also died, and you don’t have any additional information either, I can still pick up some clues.”
“The rumors about Samson’s actions are related to Steve. And considering Steve’s purpose for coming to Whiteville, he came here to deal with Zane’s unfinished business while colluding with gangs to kill nameless underlings,” Judith said with a glimmer in her beautiful eyes.
“It can only be said that those people are someone Steve deeply hates.”
“The only person who could make Steve hate like this is probably from that bar conflict not long ago when someone smashed a bottle on his head,” Judith said.
Kameron suddenly realized something and asked excitedly, “You mean Darnell?”
“You rest well. When you’re feeling better, come with me to Spectrum Pharmaceuticals,” Judith replied without directly answering his question but instead smiling. “You may not feel it now, but maybe when you see him, you’ll remember something.”
Kameron silently nodded with a thoughtful look in his eyes.
Then Kameron struggled to say one last thing, “If it really is Darnell… What will you do?”
During these days, he had collected quite a bit of information about Darnell for Judith and had some understanding of his character.
“He’s a troublesome guy, but he only targets powerful forces like Nick Dane or Carson Bateman. He helps those who are weak,” Kameron sighed. “And based on his appearance, he doesn’t seem like an extremely evil person. If he hasn’t done anything outrageous, I hope…”
Judith’s expression became solemn. “Kameron, you’re a police officer. Police officers should know better than anyone not to let emotions cloud their judgment.”
Kameron touched his ear mole and replied softly, “I’m sorry. It’s my lack of enlightenment.”
“Alright then, get some rest,” Judith said lightly before adding, “I should go check on Steve again and let him know that the Swain family can’t get their way in Whiteville.”
“Captain Meech, we should also keep an eye on Luca and Rex,” Kameron said.
He sighed lightly, “Since the Axe has lost one hundred elite members, the other two gangs will surely cause trouble.”
“Perhaps a great storm is coming,” he added.
Just then, a police officer knocked lightly on the door and walked in with a serious expression. “Captain Meech, someone sent a drug trafficking message to the police just now.”
“The message is an arrogant provocation, saying that he uses drugs, hides drugs, and traffics drugs, and daring law enforcement to come arrest him.”
“The narcotics team rushed to the location immediately after receiving it.”
“They found Steve using high-purity heroin. Under his bed, there were also five hundred grams of drugs hidden there.”
“What? Steve using drugs?” Judith stood up abruptly.
Kameron also looked astonished. “How is that possible? Zane would never allow any family members to use drugs. His methods are strict! How could Steve be using drugs?”
“Let’s go to the scene!” Judith quickly took action as she headed towards the door. “Things are getting more interesting.”
She issued another command. “Craig, immediately send people to find out where Darnell is now. To see where that bastard is hiding!”
Just as the words left her mouth, there was a gentle knock on the door, and a harmless smile peeked from behind it. “Are you looking for me?”
Judith and the others froze in their tracks, staring at the doorway with wide eyes, too astonished to speak.
Darnell!
