VIKTOR
“… oh, I had no idea she had returned so soon,” Kaylee says on the line. “I knew she was planning on it but…”
“It has been more than a month that she has been here with me,” I tell her as I stare out the window of my office. “It was about time she left.”
“And you don’t mind?” She asks. “Letting your mate go?”
“Mate?! What do you mean my mate?” I ask, too shocked to think of something smarter. “Rowan is not… we are not… it is…”
“Don’t do that,” she says and I am very sure she is laughing at me from the other side. “It was pretty obvious.”
“It was?”
“Of course! I am surprised the others didn’t notice. But then again, they are men and your lot are notoriously self absorbed.”
“Hey! That is mean. But how do you mean it was obvious? How did you figure it out?” I ask as I turn to take my seat, putting my legs up on the desk
“It is the way you behaved around her. Well, the way both of you behaved around each other, but mostly you. Your eyes never left her for more than two minutes, even when you were in different parts of the room. And whenever she moved, you subconsciously arranged yourself so that she was always in your line of sight. And then, there is the dynamic of when you two were actually together.
If it was just the two of you with others a few meters apart, you stood by her side. But if you were in conversation with someone else, well, depending on the person, you either stayed behind her, offering her silent support, or slightly in front of her, acting as a shield. And she allowed you. Throughout my visit there, you were the only one who she truly relaxed with, any other person and you could tell she had her guard up but not with you. The point is, the two of you are adorable and men are blind,” she finishes.
“Wow. I had no idea that we were so… obvious,” I mutter.
“Hmm. Maybe you were, maybe you weren’t and I am just observant. The point is that I know you are mates. But don’t worry,” she continues. “Your secret is safe with me and as such time when you two choose to reveal it, you will have mine and my husband’s unshakable support.”
“Thank you, Kaylee.”
“You are welcome. Now, please give me her number so that I can inform her of my recent findings.”
“Sure,” I say. “Do you have a paper and a pen there?”
“Hold on, let me get them.”
I wait for a few seconds before she comes back on.
“Okay. Call it.”
“What do you have to tell her that has got you so excited anyway?” I ask once I have called the number.
“Is it obvious?” she asks with a light chuckle.
“Yes, now spill.”
“Fine. Rowan had asked me about my contact in the Obsidian pack-”
“You have a spy?!”
“No! Not a spy. A contact. A friend of my sister’s. She keeps me abreast of things I should know about. And lately, there have been a lot of things to know.”
“Like what?”
“Like how Dominic and Calvin, his beta had returned from your pack one night with Dominic brushed and beaten.”
“Ah, that.”
“She made a remark that he looked… rabid.”
“Not looked. He is rabid.”
“Damn. I would feel bad for him but I don’t. He deserves everything he is getting and worse.”
“What else did your contact tell you?”
“Oh, well that he went into a rage and had Calvin beaten up,” she adds.
“His beta?”
“Yep.”
“He beat up his beta?”
“Uh uh.”
“Damn,” I say with a smile, a plan formulating in my head. “It is worse than I thought.”
“Not only that, there is plenty more. Apparently, his mother returned after hearing the rumors and she has been tearing him down.”
“In front of everyone?”
“She doesn’t even hide her disappointment. She recently threatened that if he didn’t fix his shit, she would take the pack back from him.”
“Is that even possible?”
“She was the Luna, partner to an alpha. Of course, it is possible. And if she can prove he is rabid and have him stripped … even better.”
“Maybe, but do you think Dominic would let her? He is rabid, Kaylee.”
“From what my contact gathered, there is an ongoing sentiment that he would kill her before he let that happen.”
“What?! She is his mother! And Rowan was his mate. Clarisse was his Luna. Calvin is his best friend and beta. I think it is safe to say that the only person Dominic cares about, is Dominic.”
“No one would make much fuss if he killed his own Luna, but if he killed his own mother… the wife of an alpha… that would end him.”
“Maybe, maybe not. But it will certainly alienate him. Even those wretched supporters of his would have to take several steps back from the madman.”
“Hmm. So what? Are we hoping he kills her?” I ask.
“We are hoping he fucks up bad enough so that we will have a good reason to kill him.”
“This … this was enlightening, Kaylee. Thank you.”
“You are welcome. Pass it on to Rowan for me will you?”
“Of course. Bye now.”
“Bye.”
The call ends and I am finally left to my thoughts.
That… is a lot to process.
So many possibilities
So many ways to screw him over but if we are not careful, we too might get burnt.
It is karma.
Divinely arranged.
How else can one justify the series of events and bad decisions that have followed Dominic, setting him up for complete annihilation?
It is nice to see that even the goddess is looking out for us.
“Alpha?” A knock sounds at my door and I see Kael walk in.
“What is it?”
“You have a visitor from the Obsidian pack.”
Again?
“Dominic?”
“No. Calvin. His Beta.”
