DOMINIK
“What do you mean, he can’t see me?” I demand from the sorry excuse of a wolf standing in front of me
“Exactly, what I said. Alpha Maxwell, is not available to see you now.”
“Did you tell him I was here, and that this is about the safety of all packs?”
“No.”
“Well, why the hell not?!”
“Because he is not available for that. I really don’t know how else to say this to you. He is not around. He is not here.”
“Do you expect me to believe that?!” I growl at the fucker through the barred gate.
“Alpha Dominik,” another wolf calls as he walks up to the gate. “I am Liam, the beta of this pack.”
“Finally, someone with sense. Tell your Alpha I want to see him.”
“Like my subordinate said, the alpha is not available, I urge you to come back another time.”
“How dare you talk to me like that? Is this how the Grange pack is taught to look down on others? If you didn’t have the security of this gate, I would kill you where you stand for the disrespect.”
He stares at me for a few shocked seconds before he scoffs in derision.
“This is not the Obsidian pack,” he says. “Your rules don’t work here and you can certainly not kill as wantonly as you do with your members. I will pretend I didn’t hear that statement and ask you to leave again. Any form of aggression will be taken as a threat and will be dealt with accordingly. Please, leave.”
“You will regret this,” I snarl at him before turning and heading to my BMW.
“How dare he?” I growl as I kick start the car and screech out of there.
I am an Alpha, a respected one at that.
How dare he talk to me like that?!
He will pay for this.
They all will.
Just wait and see.
The drive back does nothing in calming my mood.
Instead by the time I reach the pack, it has reached a fever high.
“Where is my Beta?!” I roar as I storm through the house.
He took the wolves on the training expedition,” Pete, one of my Gammas replies. “He said he would return by the weekend.”
Hmph.
At least, some people are not completely useless.
“That is good,” I mutter as I walk to my study. “Anything else?”
“We made contact with your mother,” he replies. “She has taken asylum with one of the packs from the east.”
“The East?! Asylum?! For what?! Does she have any idea how that makes me look?! Weak. That’s how! She makes me look weak!”
“We tried to explain it to her but she brushed ya off. She says they did not know her origin and that…”
“What?!”
“She said that wes would tell you, that… that you should think of her as if she was dead. She would do the same with you.”
What?!
“She- she said that?!” I ask, completely stunned.
“Yes, Alpha.”
Huh.
My own mother.
“Well if that is what she wants,” I say with scorn. “It is fine by me. All she did was nitpick in everything I did, anyways. Call the wolves off. If that is how she wants to live her life, I can do as much. Spread the news, the Luna mother is dead.”
“As you wish, Alpha,” he says with a bow before leaving the room.
No one.
Absolutely no one has any regard for me.
What does she think that would do to me?
Hurt me?
I am the fucking Alpha of the Obsidian pack, I don’t need her.
“Alpha,” a voice calls from outside followed by a knock.
“Come in,” I call.
A lanky wolf, one of the spies I had sent out walks in with his head bowed
“Well?” I demand. “What do you have for me?”
“Alpha Viktor, he is back.”
“What?!” I ask, rising to my feet. “When?”
“I just got the report today. He has been back for almost a month now.”
A month?!
Shit.
My own on going after the coalition hinged on the fact that there were no survivors
What if he ruined it?
No.
No, no, no.
He hates rogues just as much as I do
He won’t stand in my way.
But why… Why has he been silent all this while?
“There is more, Alpha.”
“Well? Don’t just stand there, spit it out.”
“Over the past week, the Alphas of the Grange, Indigo and Sky packs were seen going and coming from his territory.
Shit
Shit. Shit. Shit.
Just what the hell is he planning?
I swear if he tries to attack them before I do, I will kill him.
“You are dismissed,” I say before pulling out my phone.
For the next hour, I spend my time trying to get in touch with the packs that had promised me their support.
Out of fifteen of them, only eight picked my calls and out of those eight only three assured me of their support.
Apparently, the rest are already aware of Viktors arrival and are waiting for his go ahead.
“He is the one with the most right to attack, alpha Dominick, not you. I hope you can understand.”
“FUCK!” I roar as I flip my desk on itself, crashing it into the wall.
I follow by trashing the book shelves and drawers, everything and anything that gets in my way.
This is the last thing I needed.
This battle would have cemented my place as the top wolf in our community and Viktor has stolen that from me.
He didn’t even have to say anything, all he did was show up.
The bastard.
Why didn’t he just die with the rest of them?
And just what the hell is he planning with those Alphas?
And why, just why am I always the last to know about anything?
How long can this disrespect go on?
Even a pathetic beta, an ordinary patrol wolf can insult me.
“Just who the hell do they think they are?” I roar at the sky.
“Dom?” A voice calls as a hand touches my shoulder.
I don’t even think twice, I whirl around catching the person by surprise and throwing them across the room.
It takes me a few seconds to realize who it is.
Clarisse.
Ah, shit.
