Chapter 78
Absentmindedly, Elena allowed Dominic to help her out of the car like the gentleman he was, after which she allowed him to walk ahead of her into the Club while she followed behind.
When they finally got to a golden door, Dominic stopped and turned to look at her, while she raised her eyebrows at him questioningly.
“Is something wrong?” She asked him but he just sighed deeply and pushed the door open.
He stepped in first and sooner, the door wide for her to come in as well.
The first thing her eyes saw made her freeze in shock.
Angelo was sitting on a VIP couch with his eyes on the door while Eva sat across from him.
How had she forgotten that Eva had been out to meet Angelo and there was a possibility that she would be there where Angelo was? And somehow, she had walked into Eva’s trap.
Elena could feel her eyes widening in fear no matter how she tried to hold it back so Eva would not be pleased, she could not still help but tremble at the sight before her. She just wished the ground would open up and swallow her; that way, she’d be less shamed, but it was all wishes, and she knew she had to face the trauma she had caused for herself.
She stabled herself and maintained maximum composure as she took the next step into the room. She was determined not to give Eva the satisfaction of having the upper hand and intimidating her as she walked in with a smile that was meant for Angelo.
She took the seat before Angelo, ignoring the expression he had on his face, which looked like anger or something of that sort, but he said nothing to her.
“Hello, boss.” She heard Dominic greet, and she recalled then that she needed to greet as well, even though Angelo didn’t give as much as a glance in Dominic’s direction. His eyes were on her as she walked towards him.
“Hello, baby.” She said to Angelo who just kept looking at her without responding to her greetings.
“Hello Elena, it’s good to see you again.” Eva suddenly greeted, interrupting Angelo’s response, that is if he was even planning on giving one, as well as shaking the foundation of her composure.
Elena turned the smile in Eva’s direction.
“Hello, Eva. It’s been a while.” She muttered between gritted teeth and Eva gave her a fake warm smile.
“I have something important to discuss with both of you which is why I called you out here.” Angelo began, cutting through the tension that had begun to build in the air.
Both ladies had their attention on him now and Elena could see that whatever he was about to say or tell them, Eva knew nothing about it as well.
Dominic was not exempted from curiosity as his eyes moved in the direction of Angelo’s mouth, waiting for what he had to say.
“Here,” Angelo said, stretching out a card to Elena and the confusion on her face was palpable.
“What is this?” She asked, the question was more directed to her than any other person in the room as she opened up the card.
It was an invitation.
Elena glanced up at Eva and she could see curiosity written all over her as she also tried to look into the card.
“A wedding invitation,” Elena murmured when her eyes went back to the card.
She stared at the names on the card in disbelief, not knowing if she should be happy or sad at what she was seeing before her.
Elena weds Angelo was boldly printed on the inside when she turned open the card.
“What… what is this? What… What does this mean?” She stammered as she tried to ask how they got there.
Eva immediately snatched the card out of her hand to have a look at it and the expression on her face was worse than Elena thought she would see.
Irritation! Disgust! Disbelief! Anger!
“What the hell? What the fuck is this?” Eva exclaimed in shock and anger and Elena could see her face turn red, but Angelo ignored her and turned to Elena.
“We are getting married in a week as you can see. So, get yourself together and start the preparations for the wedding.” Angelo said to her, and Dominic gasped in shock as his eyes moved between Angelo, Elena, and Eva.
All along, he had not seen the card since it was with Eva and only now was he hearing it from Angelo’s mouth.
“Getting married?” Dominic asked and Angelo turned to stare at him.
“Yes! Do you have a problem with that?” Angelo snapped.
“In a week? Are you kidding me? What the hell are you doing, Angelo? Are you even thinking at all?” This was Eva. Her eyes burned with hatred and anger as she glared at Angelo, but Angelo just stared at her with an eyebrow raised.
“This is against everything we know, Angelo. We both know that this is against everything we know. A Mafia Lord is better off single than with a partner. You know that right?” She asked with her eyes bulging out like she wanted to hit something but Angelo was calm as he just stared at her.
“What are you planning, Angelo? What exactly is going on in your head?” She asked again, and Angeko sighed and spoke calmly and casually.
“I’m planning a wedding, Eva. I’m also planning to settle down. Don’t worry or disturb yourself. It’ll be a simple one with just a few people. Nothing big at all.” He tried to console but Eva was not having any of it.
Before she could say any other thing, Elena suddenly stood up from her seat, shock written all over her. She looked like she wanted to say something to express her shock, but when she opened her mouth, nothing came out of it.
Three pairs of eyes stared at her but Eva’s own was a glare. Before anyone could say any other thing, Elena’s eyes rolled to the back of her head as she fell and blacked out.
