The next morning, Eva watched her friend load her luggage into her car. “Don’t just disappear. Keep in touch!” she said, giving Alyssa a bear hug.
“Sure! You too update me whatever happens!” she reminded Eva.
“I will! The same goes for you.” Alyssa waved her off and walked away towards her car.
“Nothing can happen between me and Nicholas!” she said with an eye roll before climbing into her car. Eva chuckled and went upstairs to her apartment, her heart racing with anticipation. Would Alexander now remind her of her promises to him?
Strangely, they hadn’t heard Alexander since last night. Didn’t he know his sister was leaving? Only Eva knew the real reason. He might have been lonely last night and sought refuge in a bottle. Should she check up on him before leaving for work? Taking baby steps, Eva walked up to his door and stood before it. Was he still sleeping? Should she disturb him? How could she just leave for work without meeting him even once?
Taking a deep breath, she pressed the doorbell and waited. Nothing! Alexander really might be sleeping. She turned to go back when the door opened and Alexander emerged wearing only a pair of sweatpants, riding low. Eva’s cheeks turned crimson, seeing his bare body, his hot v-line left totally exposed to her virgin eyes.
“Good morning, Eva!” he drawled in a raspy just-out-of-bed voice that send a tremor of need down her body.
“Good morning, Alexander!” she mumbled, trying to train her eyes to focus only on his face. It was a mammoth task since her eyes seemed to have a will of their own. They refused to be tamed. They liked what they saw. She couldn’t understand how someone could look this sexy so early in the morning! “Are you here to keep your promise?”
Eva shook her head vigorously. How could he think she would let him make love to her now? She had to report to duty in two hours!
“What? No. I have to go to the hospital, now!” she said with wide eyes, backing away a little. Alexander chuckled at her reaction but took a step towards her.
“I’m sure you can call in sick!” he suggested, resting his warm feverish fingers on her arm. His touch burned her, aroused her, and made her want to give in.
“No, I can’t. I’ve taken a lot of leaves lately. I came to wake you up for breakfast. Alyssa has just left in a hurry eating nothing!” Alexander frowned and shook his head, his hand dropping to his side.
“I don’t understand why you two friends always take it out on the food?” he said with disappointment, going inside and grabbing a shirt.
“I’ve stopped, so it’s just your sister.” Eva watched him put on his shirt and pick up his phone and apartment keys.
“Let’s see what you have to offer me.” Eva blushed at the se*ual innuendo and unlocked her door.
“Only food!” Alexander chuckled, and they went inside.
“Only for now! Don’t forget your promise later!” he said and Eva served him his food with an eye roll.
“As if you’ll let me forget! This is the second time you reminded me in five minutes,” she laughed.
“What else can a guy do but dream the whole day? You know I have nothing else to do for four days! I can’t get out for fear of being seen. Why don’t you stay back with me?” Eva’s heart skipped a beat and she really wanted to stay back for him. Could she call Sullivan without getting her worked up?
“What will I tell my head nurse? I can’t go to work because I want to spend the day with someone?” she asked, hesitating a little.
“No, you can tell them you’re down with viral fever or flu. It’s common knowledge that these take at least four days to heal. She shouldn’t expect you at work for the next four days,” he suggested, his eyes glinting with amusement while Eva gaped at him. Should she really do it? Should she surrender to the desire and spend four days locked up with him in their apartments? She had never been reckless in her entire life and somehow couldn’t decide. What would they do locked up all day? She couldn’t think anymore.
“What? Are you calling in sick or should I?” he prodded, and Eva’s eyes flew up to his.
“No, don’t. What will you answer if our head nurse asks how you are related to me?” she asked with wide eyes.
“I’ll tell her I’m your everything! It’s true, isn’t it?” he asked, holding his breath and waiting for her reply.
“Define everything,” she said, enjoying the topic.
“Love, lover, fiancee, boyfriend, well-wisher, future, home, friend, companion, neighbor..” he started, but Eva rolled her eyes, stopping him.
“Okay, stop. I’ve got it. Nurse Sullivan can’t digest your concept of everything! I have a better idea. Let me go today and feign sickness. I’ll take leave for the next two days. That way, they won’t deduct my pay.”
“Fine, nurse Rayner, as you say. I’ll try to kill my time in your absence. Ashton isn’t here, or I would have asked him to come over.”
“Where did he go?” Eva had been so busy with her life lately that she hadn’t been able to take an update on Ashton and Hayley.
“He left for Florida and so has Hayley.” Eva’s eyes widened, and she wondered if they were together at last. “Yes, they are together on a professional level. Hayley bought the hotel he’s working in.”
“Oh, is she his boss now?” asked Eva with wide eyes, feeling sorry for Ashton. With such a hot boss, where would he escape now?
“Yes, but he’s enjoying it. Don’t worry!” They finished their meal and Alexander helped her clear up. “So when will I see you again?” he asked her before walking out of her apartment.
“Evening!” she said, and he grimaced, leaving with a wave. Eva’s face fell with disappointment as she followed him to the door. Couldn’t he at least kiss her before she left? “So much for being my everything. Kiss me before I go,” she ordered him, but he stopped dead in his tracks and turned to face her.
“Not now. If you touch me, I’ll explode. Then don’t complain if I keep you in my bed all day and night!” Eva closed her ears before he could say further.
“Okay, I’ve got the idea. Bye!” she said, taking a step backward in case he changed his mind and grabbed her instead.
“Bye! Don’t think about me all day or you will falter and your head nurse might see through your act!” He chuckled, walking up to his door.
“I won’t. It’s you who will.” She closed the door with a smile on her face, unable to deny the excitement bubbling inside her at his comments. She was his everything, just as he was hers! Although he never proposed or asked her to be his girlfriend, it was implied that they were everything to one another. They didn’t need to give their relationship a name. Their hearts knew they belonged to each other for life.
Quickly getting ready, Eva left for work reluctantly. Alexander’s pleas rang in her ears and she tried her best to feign a sickness all day at work. She herself was shocked at her own melodrama. The Eva she knew could hardly act. Then who was this desperate woman? Some of her co-workers advised her to go home while others suggested she take a few days’ leave.
At the end of the day, she ensured that all her colleagues knew she was very sick. It was almost 6 o’clock when she reached home and parked her car. Her heart raced at the prospect of seeing Alexander again.
Did he wait for her all day the way she waited for this moment? Did he still feel as horny as he did in the morning? Would he explode now if she touched him? She couldn’t wait to find out. She climbed up the stairs, her heart pounding inside her ribcage. At her floor, she glanced at Alexander’s closed door. Did he not hear her come up? She unlocked the door and went inside, wondering what was wrong with Alexander. Didn’t he still hear her?
She took a quick shower and emerged from the washroom, wrapped in a soft towel, wondering whether Alexander had already left. Did some emergency crop up, forcing him to re-join his office? What other reason could be there for him to stay away from her now?
“Are you still thinking about me?” his husky voice jolted her out of her reverie and she looked up towards the door of her bedroom. Where did the voice come from? There wasn’t anyone in the bedroom. Was she really going crazy? Her eyes searched for him.
“I’m very much here, Eva!” Her eyes fell upon the dresser and she saw his reflection in the mirror. He was sitting on the rug in the living room, the mirrors opposite him reflecting his image all over. She gasped with surprise! How did be get inside? As far as she could remember, she had locked her door when she entered.
