Clarissa’s POV
I was still in shock and panic. I hadn’t been able to sleep the entire night. I sat in the living room sipping coffee with heavy bags under my eyes.
My phone was beside me and it was ringing. I turned my head but didn’t dare to pick it up.
Six missed calls from Lorenzo. He had only called me this morning. The prick didn’t return any of my calls from the night before.
I held my cup even tighter but I was cautious all the same. The last thing I wanted was for the hot coffee liquid to spill on me.
I took another sip. I was in a miserable state. I was paranoid and scared. In my head, I had gone over every possible thought and all of them made me shiver with fright and skepticism.
Knock! Knock!
The heavy knocking at the door made the whole house vibrate. I was unmoved by the sound. It was already obvious who it was.
I took another sip and continued to listen to the angry knocking that was followed by angry yells.
“Rissa! Rissa, open the door!”
I sat still for ten minutes and finally, I moved my head to look at the door.
The knocking came again and Lorenzo’s voice was even angrier.
“Rissa, open the damn door!”
Like a zombie, I stood up and walked to the door. If this kept on, he was going to destroy my home and it was something that I couldn’t risk.
I opened the door and he bolted inside, his dark eyes were fixed on me angrily. I ignored him and walked back to my comfy seat on the sofa.
“Rissa?” He said angrily, as he followed me.
I ignored him. I was in no mood to talk to someone like him.
Suddenly, I felt a hand grab my arms and in a few seconds, I was pinned to the wall.
“Argh!”
I groaned in pain as my back smacked the wall violently. I tried to move away but Lorenzo pressed his body against mine.
I was stuck and unable to move.
“What is wrong with you, Rissa? Why haven’t you been answering my calls?”
His dark eyes bored holes into me but I continued to stay mute. Was he really asking me that question? I called him yesterday evening and he didn’t return any of my calls. Who was he to question me?
“Rissa! Answer me!”
He shook me violently, his teeth tightly clamped and his breathing was fast and heavy.
“Let go of me.”
My voice was cold and oozing with hate. I didn’t want him to touch him. His scent irritated me. I had taken in one sniff and Erica was written all over him.
“Rissa, what are…”
“I said, let go of me.”
His expression changed and he looked at me in shock. I stole the opportunity and pushed him off. He reeled backwards slightly and I was able to slip away.
He didn’t try to pull me back and stood watching me as I resumed my place on the sofa with my coffee in my hand.
“Rissa, what is the meaning of this? Why are you acting this way? I saw your calls last night but I couldn’t call you back and I returned all of them his morning but you didn’t answer any of them.”
The cup of coffee in my hand stopped just short of my lips. I froze for a second.
I took a deep breath and set the cup down. My face was turned away from him but my voice was loud enough to be heard.
“Why didn’t you pick any of my calls last night?”
He exhaled exasperatedly.
“Is that why you are acting this way? Rissa…”
“Answer the question, Lorenzo. It was pretty straightforward. Why didn’t you pick up any of my calls last night?”
Finally, my emotions seemed to make sense and I felt all my confusion being channeled into hate and anger.
I stood up and faced Lorenzo. My eyes narrowed on him and my fingers were clenched into an angry fist.
“I know you saw my calls, Lorenzo. I am not dumb but I want to know why you didn’t answer them.”
I took a step forward.
“You were with ‘her’ last night. What did you do with her?”
Lorenzo’s eyes met mine and he stared back at me.
“Answer me, Lorenzo.”
“We did nothing, Rissa…”
“Liar!”
I grabbed my coffee and threw the contents at him. He was fast and got out of the way. The brown liquid splattered on the wall and made a disgusting muddy brown stain as it dripped down to the floor.
“Rissa, what is wrong with you?”
My hand flew to my chest in anger.
“Me? What’s wrong with me? You were with her last night! You cheated on me with her!”
My anger was brazen and uncontrolled.
“Tell me, Lorenzo. Did you enjoy spending time with her? Was she better than me in bed? You love her, don’t you?”
“Rissa, you are being unreasonable.”
“Oh! I’m the unreasonable one!”
I felt like I was going to explode in anger.
“You are calling me unreasonable when you were the one that slept with her last night. It is the only explanation for why you didn’t pick your calls. You are calling me unreasonable when you haven’t even been able to defend yourself!”
“Rissa! I didn’t sleep with her!” He retorted loudly.
I scoffed.
“Then what did you two do? Why is her scent clinging to you? You reek of her.”
“I have no time for this…”
“Well, then you can just leave. I don’t want to see you again.”
Those words struck my heart like a knife. I didn’t mean any of it but I was so mad that I couldn’t bear to look at his face.
“Rissa, I didn’t do anything with Erica.”
I laughed sarcastically.
“And you expect me to believe you now just because you said so?”
Lorenzo walked up to me and grabbed my arms and held them to my side. I tried to struggle but his grip was firm.
“Rissa, listen to me. I swear to you on the Goddess that I didn’t sleep with Erica. I…I…I kissed her and we did sleep in the same bed but that was it. I swear I didn’t touch her. I have no feelings for Erica. I love you. I knew that you would call but I had to silence my phone and keep it hidden so that she wouldn’t suspect. I even agreed to sleep in her bed so that she wouldn’t catch on to us. Rissa, I promise you. I am telling the truth.”
I stared into his dark eyes and my tense body began to relax. His eyes softened and I could see the soft glint in his eyes.
Was he really telling me the truth? How could I believe him? His explanation was reasonable but still…
“How did you get here? How were you able to leave without arousing her suspicion?”
His head dropped slightly and I saw a slight blush on his face. Was he…embarrassed?
“Rissa, it’s a long story. It isn’t necessary…”
“No,” I said defiantly. “I want to hear it. I want to know what you told her.”
Lorenzo took a deep breath and let go of me. I folded my arms and watched him, waiting for him to start his long story.
“I…I told her that…”
Knock! Knock!
We whipped our heads around and turned to the door. My heart was beating rapidly. Who was that? I wasn’t expecting anyone. I never had any visitors.
The door was ajar and the person walked in. My body froze…
