Chapter 129

Dante’s POV
I was walking down the corridor. It was deathly silent and I could feel the tension in the air.
The tie on my neck suddenly felt uncomfortable and I moved my hand to take it off.
Sweat trickled down my neck and I took another deep breath. This was it.
I stopped in front of a door.
I looked down and saw the shadows that emerged from inside the room.
“One, two, three, four.”
I scoffed. There were four of them inside waiting for me.
I was still silent. The day had come and all I wanted was for it to come to an end as soon as possible.
I sighed. Erica was still not picking up my calls.
I pushed the door open and walked into the room. There was a murmur but I could be bothered. I was right. There were four people in the room and all of them were already seated.
I sighed again. I still had no idea why I chose to consent to this stupid meeting that my sister had planned.
I walked to the front and someone scoffed angrily. A smirk stole my face but I didn’t dare make a sound.
I could feel all the eyes in the room follow me as I walked to my seat.
It didn’t take long and I finally sat down. My eyes glanced around the room once more to take in the morons sitting in the room with me.
Pearl had chosen her seat close to mine and she looked grim and serious. I scoffed again. This was just a waste of my time.
Two members of the council were here as well and to sum it all up, Laura’s dad was there too, the head of the council.
His face was twisted and sweaty. The pathetic, old man had thought that he had won. He was in for a surprise.
“You are late, Dante.”
My sister spoke out but I acted like I hadn’t heard her. She was even lucky that I chose to come for this stupid meeting. I could have chosen to stay in bed with a bottle of whiskey and she wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it.
She didn’t acknowledge my silence and continued to speak.
“What I and the head of the council were discussing before you came in, was that…”
“You are going to marry my daughter, Dante!”
The old man yelled out and his face became even redder. I sat up and looked at him with intrigue. Part of me was wondering how red he could get and how many of his strings I would need to pull to get him there.
“You have dated my daughter for six years and you promised to make her your Luna. She has been faithful to you and she has pushed all other men in her life away all because she wanted to stay faithful to you. She is pregnant with your child and now you want to deny it. I will not allow you to trail mud all over our noble family name.”
I was still silent. I was so uninterested that I couldn’t even squeeze out a yawn. How long was this supposed to last? I didn’t come here to listen to an old geezer yapping about the nobility of his family name and whatnot.
I rolled my eyes a bit. Wasn’t Laura supposed to be here too? I brushed the thought aside. Damn bitch! I was obligated to attend this stupid attempt of a threat to marry her and she couldn’t even be bothered to show up.
A lousy move. But all were in my favour. I glanced at my watch. It was almost 11:00 p. m. Where the hell was Robert? I had asked him to meet me here. I hope he brought the reinforcements like I had asked him to.
I was determined to show these old fools and my sister why I was the Alpha and why I was the one running the pack and not them.
“… and I demand a compensatory sum to dampen the weight of this insult.”
I was pulled out of my thoughts and all eyes were fixed on me again. What was it now? I had lost track of this stupid conversation.
“Dante!” my sister’s said harshly. “Didn’t you hear a thing that the head of the council said?”
I was still silent and rested my face on my hand. I didn’t care about what the head counselor said. If he was asking me for money, he wasn’t going to get a dime out of me.
“Dante, did you hear what I said?! You haven’t said anything since you came in. Is this a joke to you?”
My anger was rekindled against my sister. My green eyes narrowed down on her and I could hear a growl rumbling from deep within.
It seemed that she had forgotten her place. She was my little sister and was definitely biting off more than she could chew. Did she really think that she could snap at me and expect me to cower and listen to her?
“Dante, I am talking to you…”
Bang!
The door flung open and all eyes turned to see who had entered. I didn’t bother, however. It was obvious who it was.
“Good morning. I am sorry that I am late. I had a few things to attend to.”
Laura’s voice made me angry and resentful. That bitch was going to pay for everything that she had done.
“It’s okay, Laura,” my sister said. “We haven’t really said much since you weren’t here yet.”
I could feel all the eyes in the room again turn to me but I couldn’t care less.
From the corner of my eye, I could still see Laura’s scowling face and her upturned nose. Her father was doting on her as she took her seat beside him.
Like father, like daughter. A foolish pair that thought that they had dug a hole that I had fallen into.
“Dante,” her voice filled the room and all was silent. “have you decided to take responsibility for this child and marry me just like you promised?”
“Everything is in place, Alpha.”
I smirked. Robert had contacted me through our telepathic link. It was show time.
“Aren’t you going to say anything or are you just going to keep smiling like a sick psychopath.”
I smiled even wider and stood up. All eyes followed me as I drew myself to my full height.
Bang!
The door flung open and men flooded into the room and surrounded everyone that was seated.
Panic and shock were rippling through the room.
My sister tried to get out of her seat but she was forced back in by one of the strong men.
“What is the meaning of this?! Dante?!”
My sister, the two counselors, Laura, and her dad look at me in shock. They were all held down to their seats, except Laura.
I cleared my throat and slicked back my hair.
“Arrest that woman and get her to my car.”
“What?!”
They grabbed Laura and she began to struggle. Her father tried to go after her but he was further restrained in his seat.
“Are you crazy?! Where are you taking my daughter?!”
I ignored him and followed the men that dragged Laura out.
As I got to the door, I stopped and turned to the rest of the people in the room.
“I am going to find out if the baby is mine and if it even exists. You are all welcome to find out as well but none of you should dare stop me…”
