Ruby
“Aren’t you feeling pain?” I heard the voice of Damian call after me. Right, I was supposed to be feeling pains all over my body, but they seemed to have suddenly disappeared. I guess my wolf was happy and had extra energy today.
I turned back shyly to gaze at him, uncertainty clouding my expression. I wanted to go as far away from him as possible and not give in to the mate bond one bit, but he was making everything difficult for me.
He approached with a softness in his eyes that contradicted the fierce alpha I saw moments ago, and a part of me was curious to explore and find out every damn thing about him, from his fears to his dislikes and who he loves.
And the mother of his daughter?
“You endured a lot back there. Let me check if you’re hurt.” I hesitated for a moment, not used to someone caring for my well-being, especially an alpha of his ranking.
“I’m fine, Damian. Just a few bruises.” I said calmly, putting some distance between us, but his concern persisted. I could call him Damian, right?
“Let me make sure.” He said gently, bringing his hands closer to my face.
“No, thank you!” I screamed before his hands could touch my face. I didn’t want to ignite the mate bond between us physically, especially when we haven’t acknowledged that fact openly.
I would rather keep playing dumb.
From the innocent look Damian was giving me, it was obvious he also wanted to say something concerning our mateship but didn’t know how to, just like I did, and I would be happy it stayed that way.
“Ruby, I want to,” he started, his words hanging in the air. Before Damian could continue, I interrupted, “It’s unnecessary, Damian. Thank you for saving me and for what happened back there.” I gave him a small but genuine smile.
Damian’s stern expression softened, and he nodded. “And thank you for saving my daughter.”
We stood there for a moment, our eyes locked in silent understanding, appreciating the shared ordeal that had brought us together. I badly wanted to ask some personal questions, but I knew it wasn’t my place or right to cross the boundary.
It was a brief moment of connection, a bridge between our complicated past and the uncertain future. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
“Enough of this tender reunion. Don’t think you can hide behind this alpha forever, Ruby? He is nothing compared to what I can do, and I am sure you know what I am capable of.” Lilith’s sharp voice cut through the air like a knife before we could delve deeper into our unexpected interaction.
“Come to think of it, I suspected this. I knew it was all planned, and now that I see the both of you, my suspicion has been confirmed. Ruby, you should be ashamed of yourself for being a cheap slut and going as far as to be his lover just to get him to save you. How can you sleep with him?”
Lilith, driven by her insatiable need for revenge, started to spill nonsense while I let out a scoff at her ridiculousness. Her venomous accusations hung heavy in the air, like a foul stench staining the truth. Her words, filled with malice and deceit, painted a distorted image of me, so I decided to ignore her, but she wasn’t giving up.
“How low can you go, Ruby? Sleeping around with alphas just to crawl back into power. Is that your grand plan to overthrow me?” Lilith’s voice oozed with contempt, and her accusatory gaze bore into me, and she lay on the floor, still covered with dust and tears.
Right now, anyone who never knew the cruel bitch might take pity on her, as she looked innocent, therefore painting me as the bad guy.
Stunned, I felt a mix of disbelief and anger surge within me. “Lilith, your delusions know no bounds. I’d never resort to such tactics. Unlike you, I value integrity over power.”
The whole place became a battleground of words, the accusations cutting through the air like a relentless storm. I couldn’t let these false claims stain my reputation, especially in front of Damian, who stood there confused as he processed everything, but countering Lilith’s venom required more than just words.
I wasn’t ready for Damian to see the ugly side of me.
Lilith, her eyes burning with rage, stood up defiantly from the floor and turned to shoot daggers at Damian.
“Alpha Damian, you sent lightening from above just to protect a common omega?” She spat, her words dripping with venom.
I watched with a mix of astonishment and curiosity as Damian maintained his composure, facing Lilith’s accusations head-on, unlike me, who was so close to losing my cool. Between me and her, she was the slut among us.
“Your pack falsely accused an innocent wolf, and justice prevailed. I won’t let lies tarnish the integrity of my pack.”
Lilith sneered, “You’ve grown weak, Damian, all for the sake of an omega. Don’t tell me she sucked your dick better than I did.”
Fuck?
Did Lilith just say what I think she said, or did I mishear? Does Damian have something going on with her?
“Watch your tongue, Lilith, or I will cut it off,” Damian growled, his eyes narrowing with warning. “I won’t tolerate disrespect, especially after what you’ve caused. I spared you for a reason, so don’t run that mouth of yours too wide, or I would be tempted to shut it up for good.”
“Oh, now you want it shut? But you used to like when my mouth was wide open, taking your full length all in.” Lilith smirked.
Damn.
My eyes widened in shock as I looked back and forth between a raging Damian and a frustrated Lilith. Damian slept with Lilith? He wouldn’t be that low to do such a thing, right?
