“You disobeyed me, Lilith,” Damian growled, his voice laced with a stern authority that sent a visible electric shock down Lilith’s spine.
There was a different aura around Damian, and maybe it was because he was my supposed mate; that’s why I could figure it out, but one thing was certain: Damian was more than a werewolf.
A lycan? Probably? If that was it, then Damian was a dangerous being, and I was sure it was a secret he wanted to carry to his grave.
“I thought this was what you wanted. I am only helping to deliver justice for the sake of your precious daughter,” Lilith stammered, attempting to justify her actions with a shaky resolve.
The lies of her words hung in the air; everyone present knew she only wanted to use the opportunity to punish me; she didn’t give two flying fucks about his daughter, and from the deadly look in Damian’s blue eyes, I was sure he was aware and could sniff out her lies.
I was thankful he wasn’t an idiot like Liam.
Lilith stood up from her chair and walked towards Alpha Damian, her usual confidence crumbling under the weight of his intense gaze, yet she still tried to maintain her confident composure by walking seductively and trying to be graceful, but failed.
“I’m just doing my duty as a Luna to deliver justice.” She nervously began to explain, and I let out a tired scoff as her words stumbled over each other as she attempted to justify the unjust actions taken against me.
Who was Damian to make all Mighty Lilith act this way?
“Well, you aren’t my Luna, but the Luna of that weakling over there who is nothing but a sorry excuse of an alpha,” Damian sneered, pointing to Liam, who seems to have recovered thanks to the help of the pack members surrounding him. Despite my own struggles, embarrassment for Liam coursed through me, wondering what had happened to my once-strong ex-mate.
“So you don’t have the right to make decisions for me,” Damian retorted, clearly pissed, bringing my attention back to him.
Seriously, he was so handsome, tall, and, not to forget, confident.
“Damian,” Lilith stated, but got cut off by Damian’s growl. The air was thick with tension, and every word she spoke seemed to dig her into a deeper hole.
“It’s alpha to you, fool,” he spat, sending millions of butterflies down to my belly.
Damian’s eyes narrowed as he assessed Lilith’s feeble figure, who stood quite like a little girl, and a hushed silence fell over the crowd, eagerly awaiting the alpha’s response.
“You overstepped your boundaries,” Damian stated coldly, his gaze unwavering.
“I thought we agreed to join an alliance between our pack; that’s why I was lending a helping hand,” she said, her voice wavering, and the sense of discomfort in the air heightened.
Alpha Damian’s piercing eyes remained fixed on her, unyielding in their silent judgement, making Lilith’s attempt to clarify the situation increasingly futile. The dynamics of power were shifting, and Lilith found herself on the defensive, desperately trying to salvage control.
“I am the alpha of all alphas, and you will follow my orders. This is not how justice is served in my pack, and about the alliance, I never agreed to it.”
Lilith, now devoid of her arrogant demeanour, could only nod in acknowledgment, realising the severity of her mistake.
Even though pain consumed me, an uncontrollable, mocking laughter erupted. The sound echoed in the air, a bitter symphony against the harsh stone floor where I had kneeled for my unjust punishment. I couldn’t resist-the irony of their situation, the twist of fate, fueled the laughter that spilled from my lips, even if it meant collapsing onto the unforgiving surface.
Lilith turned to glare at me, but I rolled my eyes at her, and despite Lilith’s piercing gaze, my laughter echoed defiantly. The pain was excruciating, but the irony of their downfall fueled my amusement. Lilith’s frustration only intensified as I continued to find humour in their misfortune.
She never expected such a turn of events to shift the power dynamics, leaving her exposed and vulnerable in the face of another with higher rank and power.
Damian, with a contemplative expression, rested his hands on his chin. “Perhaps I should use the Diamond Pack as an example for disobeying me.”
“We don’t have to go that far, Alpha Damian. I was only trying to ensure your daughter receives justice.”
“Is that so?” Damian’s eyes narrowed, a mix of scepticism and irritation crossing his features.
“This whore here tried-” Lilith sneered, attempting to deflect blame, but Damian cut her off.
“Enough. Watch your language,” he commanded, his tone firm and authoritative. The tension in the air escalated as the pack members observed the power struggle within their hierarchy.
“Oh, right, sorry. Forgive my carelessness. This omega here made attempts to hurt your precious daughter, but luckily these guys were fast enough to save her,” Lilith explained, pointing at Benjamin, the woman in the black dress, and the other man.
“Really?” Daiman asked in a dry tone.
“Yes, Alpha. We did protect your daughter despite our pack differences.” Benjamin said, stepping forward along with his two minions.
“Is that so?” Alpha Damian asked, walking around them, and I could feel the fear emanating from their bodies.
“Yes, Alpha.” They bowed in union.
“Then it means you have no problems swearing under the pot of thunder.” Damian smirked, and my eyes almost popped out of their socket, and I was sure everyone’s reaction was almost the same as mine.
The pot of thunder was a sacred tool reserved for grave matters in the realm, designed to discern truth from lies. Its potency extended to more serious offences, and it had the power to deliver a lethal strike to those who dared to deceive. So right now, it seemed absurd that such a profound instrument would be employed for a case involving a mere omega like me.
The men exchanged hesitant glances, clearly reluctant to swear under the pot of thunder, knowing the effects. Although I have always heard about people who lied and got struck by lightning, those stories were myths told by my parents to scare me when I was a child.
There’s no way the sky would open and thunder would actually strike someone, right?
