“Don’t speak without evidence.”
Nelson shook off her hand, showing disgust.
It was clearly him who had cut off the suppliers that Lucia had painstakingly built up. Now, no one was willing to supply her, making business difficult.
They claimed they couldn’t trace the source, but Lucia knew it was him, her good son!
She let out a cold laugh. “You’ve grown up and become quite capable, Nelson. Don’t forget, when Oconnor Group was in trouble, who gave you financial support? Without me, would you be where you are today?”
Nelson glanced sideways, a mocking smile on his lips. “And before that?”
Lucia stepped back, intimidated by his presence. “What do you mean?”
“When Oconnor Group was on the brink of collapse, didn’t you also give it a push?” Nelson frowned, as if suddenly realizing something. “Oh, it wasn’t just you. There was also Dale, my biological mother and my uncle. You two didn’t hold back at all, did you?”
Lucia was shocked and didn’t know how to respond. How did Nelson find out about this?
“You only came to curry favor with me when you saw I wasn’t going down.” Nelson understood her every move, his expression full of ridicule.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn’t do anything!” She angrily looked away.
“And the divorce papers you handed to Callie!” Nelson suddenly raised his voice. Lucia felt guilty and stepped back again. “I never thought of divorcing her. How dare you take those papers to her!”
“And right after her surgery, Lucia. From childhood to now, you’ve always been adept at this heart-wrenching game!”
Thinking about Callie seeing the divorce papers when she was already hurt both physically and emotionally made Nelson’s heart ache. He could never bear to treat her that way.
But others dared to act on their own.
“Callie?” Lucia sneered. “I did it for your own good! If you hadn’t married Marilyn, could Oconnor Group have been saved? In the end, if you hadn’t gone back to Ylosea to see Marilyn, how could I have had the confidence to give the divorce papers to Callie!”
“Nelson, now you feel the pain. Don’t you see any fault in yourself?”
The man stood under the streetlight, cold and distant, with unbearable pain in his eyes.
Yes, if he hadn’t gone back to Ylosea, maybe none of this would have happened.
At that time, he hadn’t considered her feelings, leading to the current situation.
Nelson hated himself the most.
Seeing his silence, Lucia continued, “When I handed the divorce papers to Callie, do you know what she said?”
Nelson felt as if something gripped his heart and he turned serious.
Lucia spoke each word slowly: “She said she would consider it carefully.”
Nelson closed his eyes, imagining Callie’s despair at that moment.
After a moment, he opened his eyes and signaled Anthony to hand over a folder. He took out a stack of photos and held them in front of Lucia. “Look at these carefully. Don’t ever appear in front of me again or disturb Grandpa.”
He threw the photos at her.
Lucia frowned as she glanced at them and nearly broke down. The photos showed a group of tall bodyguards beating a frail man on the ground.
The photos were clear, showing detailed injuries.
The man was beaten within an inch of his life.
Upon closer inspection, he bore some resemblance to Nelson.
