I overslept!
It was afternoon already?!
Sitting up, I took the sheets off, but Alpha Casper wasn’t in bed with me.
I left his room and walked downstairs, and relief coursed through me when I saw him playing with Liam and my sister while Anna prepared lunch.
A smile formed on my face as I saw him fully in his fatherly role.
Walking to disrupt their conversation, I hugged him from behind, kissing his cheeks before dropping on his lap.
“I didn’t want to wake you after what happened last night.” He said, hugging me.
“I’m fine. I’m trying to forget about it,” I responded before walking over to Rose and Liam, who sat opposite us.
“How are you guys doing?”
“Dad was just telling us how he killed 10 men at once when you got attacked, although he got stabbed when you distracted him,” Liam said while I exchanged looks with Alpha Casper, shaking my head.
“You are making them more traumatized.”
“We wanted to hear it,” Rise chipped in.”It was too good to be true. Meanwhile, did it happen, or was he exaggerating because 10 men is a lot.”
“It’s true, but he killed 9. He wanted to keep the last man, but he died, unfortunately. He killed them with his bare hands while saving me.” I replied, grazing Alpha Casper’s beard before mouthing a thank you.
“He always saves me. It’s just like he did yesterday.”
The clearing of his throat interrupted me as I looked in his direction.
“As a result of the attack last night, I have given them a smartwatch, including Anna. I also taught them how to use it correctly,” he announced.
“That’s brilliant,” I commended, smiling as I took a peep on their wrist. A smile of satisfaction played on my face.
“That aside, has anyone seen Daphne? She said she would come by dawn, and it’s in the afternoon,” I asked.
“No. Call her, maybe she is caught up with something urgent,” Ride suggested while I headed upstairs to Alpha Casper’s room, grabbing my phone.
Fear seeped into my spine as I scrolled through over 20 missed calls from her. It was some minutes after we chatted.
20 missed calls. That was strange.
I dialed her number, as anxiety ate me up.
She wasn’t here, yet she called me 20 times. What was happening?!
The call went to voice mail every time, leaving me frustrated.
After a series of trials, I dropped my message, hoping she would call back, but 30 minutes passed, yet no calls or messages from her.
Speaking of messages, I clicked on the message icon, scrolling to her name to see that she dropped me a message.
An emergency message.
Help me, I’ve been kidnapped by those men who tried to attack you last night. I’m writing this message from Calix’s dungeon. If you don’t come, they will have no choice but to kill me. But don’t come for me, run away as soon as possible so your family will be safe. I love you always and forever.
Goosebumps enveloped me as I almost collapsed. My heart almost jumped out of my chest as I let out a scream, rushing downstairs to meet Alpha Casper.
Seeing that I was in a bad mood, he signalled Anna to take Rose and Liam away from the room.
“Daphne has been kidnapped!” I screamed like a mad woman, throwing my phone at him while he read the message.
“I have to find her. She was kidnapped because of me. I hate myself right now.”
“Babe, breathe-”
Throwing him a disgusted look, I eyed him, tearing myself from his grip.
“Breathe? You just told me to breathe? My best friend has been kidnapped, and you just told me to breathe? Are you fucking out of your mind?” I lashed out, hitting him amid tears before crashing on his chest while he held me in his arms, pacifying me.
“She means everything to me. And now, she has been kidnapped because of me. I can’t believe what is happening to me. If I had known, I wouldn’t have stayed until a late hour yesterday.”
“What is wrong with me? Why does everybody go through a hard time because of me, especially her? She can’t die. I can’t leave her with them. They will torture her, Casper. Calix is an animal; he will do you speakable things to her.”
“I cannot lose you again!” He grabbed my arms, yanking them to get my attention as his face hardened. “You cannot be sold as a slave to one of Calix’s customers. I know what you want, but I’m sorry, I can’t let you go.”
“So you want her killed?” I sniffed, clutching my chest as I was afraid it would rip apart from the pain lodged in it. “Is that how much you hate her?”
“No, I will send some of my best warriors to track her while I keep you safe in my pack. No one dares enter my territory. It’s heavily guarded.”
“What if they don’t make it in time?”
“They will. Your best friend won’t die. You don’t have to go there. After what happened the last time, I’m afraid I will lose you. I have lost you before, and I don’t want to lose you again. If something happens to you, what will I do with myself? Think about Liam and Rose. How do you want them to cope? Your mum died, and if you die, Rose would break. Please, Lily, don’t go. I’ll make sure Daphne is safe.” His words melted my heart, but it wasn’t enough to change it.
I don’t care what happens to me, I would save Daphne.
“Take care of Rose and Liam, I love you very much,” I added, locking my lips against his for some minutes before pulling away, leaving him confused.
Before he could process what was happening, I shifted and dashed out of the door, tracing Daphne through the address I memorized on my phone.
Don’t worry, bestie, I’m coming for you!
