Lilith
Before Casper retired into his room, he halted in his tracks, turning in my direction. Despite backing him, I could feel his eyes pinned to the back of my neck, observing my movement, like a predator gawking at its prey.
His aura was a blend of anger and raw hatred.
I rolled my eyes, muttering inaudible words under my breath before hissing loudly. He heard it, but I didn’t care.
“Go to your room, Anna, and if you don’t have anything else to do, make me a better omelet.” He ordered before hissing. “Stop crowding her and making her feel important.” He sneered, climbing the stairs before disappearing into the last floor.
I flinched, and my head skipped a beat when he banged his door aggressively.
Anna and I exchanged a look before I nudged her to proceed to make the Alpha’s meal.
I didn’t want her to get hurt like me.
When she was gone, I sucked my breath, gathering my strength as I stood on my feet.
I took a short stride towards the dining table, grinding my teeth as Casper’s scent wafted my nose.
I wrapped a large amount of tissue around my fingers before walking to the couch.
I lifted the injured arm carefully, placing it on my lap before dabbing the bloodied part with tissue.
The stinging of the fresh wound filled me with pain, making me throw my head backward slightly before biting my lips and shutting my eyes.
Stifling a moan, I tried applying pressure to wipe the dried blood around the wound, but it only caused more pain.
“Let me help with that.” Anna’s sad voice resonated in my ears.
She sat beside me, placing the first aid box on a stool before holding the injured arm in her hands and placing it carefully on her lap.
“It’s going to hurt a little, but try to bear the pain.”
After dabbing some amount of methylated spirit on the ball of cotton wool, she brushed it against my skin, carefully cleaning the wound.
My jaw clenched in pain as I wiggled, clasping my hand over my mouth to stop myself from crying.
“It’s okay. Luckily, it’s not that deep,” she consoled me, smiling briefly before administering the treatment.
“Have you made his food?”
“Yes. I had to rush it, I was afraid that you could pass out from bleeding too much.” She said as she skilfully dressed my arm.
I blinked back the tears that fought to be free, but it was too late. They spilled from my eyes, dropping on the bandaid.
“He hates me.” I bawled my eyes out, sniffing hard.
“Maybe you pushed his limits. I don’t know what you guys were yelling about, but I know that the Alpha won’t react in that way if you don’t trigger him.”
“But that’s how he is. You’ll get used to it. It’s tough in the beginning. Just like my first resumption month, I was so clumsy.” She cackled lightly before placing her fingers on my tear-stained cheeks and wiping them.
“Here, wipe your nose,” she muttered, giving me a tissue.
“He is just an animal. How can he throw things at his employees? What if the plate had landed on my face?” My voice raised in anger as I pulled my hand away from her grip when she was done.
“He is cruel. This…this place is toxic! If not for my mother and my sister’s treatment, I wouldn’t have accepted this job. He is a monster!”
A weak sigh left Anna’s lips before she turned to me. “I know you are mad at him, but don’t judge him. He does this to Raphael, too. But he wasn’t like this. We hope he heals one day.”
“We?”
“Yes. Raphael and I.”
Worry sank on her face as she stared at my injury for a second.
“Are you not a wolf? Why are you not healing?”
I huffed tiredly, rolling my eyes. I hated that question.
“My father is a human, and my mother is a wolf. So practically, I am supposed to be a wolf. But since I haven’t shifted, I live in the human world, forgetting my wolf side. I blend in pretty well.”
Anna cleared her throat lightly. “Well, I am an omega, the lowest of the wolf ranks. Maybe one of these days, if we are granted permission, I can show you around Alpha Casper’s pack.”
My brows furrowed, and my nostrils flared as I stared at her. “No, thank you. I don’t want to have anything to do with him.”
Silence settled between us as we were lost in our thoughts.
I debated in my head whether I should tell her about what happened the previous night or not.
That arrogant bastard.
But since she emphasized the rules, I didn’t know how she would react.
“Anna,” I called, tapping her gently to get her attention. “Did you hear any strange sounds or noises last night?”
“No. Aside from the day you slept in my room, I usually play white noise to block the strange sounds. You can try it if the sounds are bothering you.” she replied while I looked away.
Since she doesn’t have a clue, I won’t tell her.
I was lost in thoughts once more as the strange sparks I shared with Casper flushed down my spine.
I struggled hard to refrain from jerking. I didn’t want to arouse Anna’s suspicion.
“Ignore the Alpha. You will get used to him,” Anna said, giving me a friendly jab.
“What if I tried to help him?”
“Don’t do it. He hates being helped, especially if he is in a vulnerable state. It makes him feel weak and useless.”
Could that be the reason he got mad at me for saving his life?
He was ashamed of seeing him in a vulnerable position despite being powerful.
“Can I ask a question?”
“Sure.”
“I noticed that whenever I am with a certain guy, I feel a strange sensation in my body. Like a burst of sparks. I’m certain he feels that too. But we hate one another. I just don’t get it. How can we hate one another and still feel sparks?!” I groaned in confusion, letting out a huff.
“Sparks?” Anna’s eyes widened as her eyes glistened in shock.
“Yes. Sometimes, electric currents, especially when our skin brushes against each other, whether it’s by mistake or it’s intentional.”
I swallowed hard, clenching my jaws as my heart began to beat fast in anticipation.
I hope it was just me hallucinating.
“I experienced the same with my ex-fiance. It felt good to be around him. The sparks and all left me shuddering. He felt the same too. I thought I would live happily ever after until he cheated on me with my aunty.” Her voice lowered in sadness and pain was reflected in her smile.
“It’s in the past now. But can you elaborate more on these feelings? Have you ever felt like this with anyone? Or just him?”
“I have never had this feeling for anyone. It’s so surreal that these sensations come only when I am with him.” I explained, worry written all over my face.
“There was something about how his scent descended heavily on me. Something jolting me like electric currents. Sometimes, I just want to be around him, but he annoys me.”
“Do you know what a mate is?”
I nodded, thinking about what she was driving at.
“I think you have a mate, Lilith. Who is this guy? And what is his name?”
