Lilith
My heart pounded against my ribs as a cold wave of dread embalmed me.
I froze on a spot, unable to move as I hadn’t recovered from the intense grip of the strange bond.
The aftermath of it caused my body to tremble.
My mind ran through it again, and I could swear that Alpha Casper had the same reaction.
Like magnets, our hands felt drawn towards one another. The feeling was so powerful that I still felt the sensation.
It felt like an invisible knot tried to bind us together.
I had never experienced such an electrifying force all my life.
I shut my eyes, breathing in and out slowly when the sensation had left my body, and I was in control of myself.
The vibration of my phone reminded me that I hadn’t thanked the Alpha.
I sprinted out of the door, dashing into the hallway, but it was already empty.
The echoes of his growls made it clear to me that he was already upstairs.
I stood with my eyes transfixed on the stairs that led to the last floor, debating whether to go up to him and appreciate his kind gesture, but the rules found their way into my head, reminding me of the danger of disobeying them.
I sighed wearily, walking into my new room with the guilt weighing down my shoulder.
I hated to appear ungrateful. Later, I concluded that first thing after serving his breakfast in the morning, I would thank him for the gift.
My conscience rested, and I picked up my phone, dialing the doctor’s number.
“I have the money. Send the account details that I would transfer it into so that treatment can begin asap,” I said, without allowing him to speak.
“It will be sent right away,” he replied from his end. I could tell that he was surprised at how quickly I got the money.
“How is my mum and my sister?” A frown settled on my face as I let out a long sigh.
The last image of Mum and my sister at the hospital invaded my head.
“They are responding to treatment, and your mum requests your presence.”
“Tell her that I will see her soon. I just started a job, and I don’t want to ask for excuses so that I won’t be seen as an unserious person.”
“I will deliver your message to her. If that’s all, I will drop the call.”
“Bye,” I said, peeling the phone from my lips before ending the call.
My eyes scanned my new room, and I was impressed by the interiors.
It was a decent room that had every girl’s basic amenities.
Except that the wardrobe was empty.
One of these days, I would take a day off to get my stuff from my house and then see my mum at the hospital.
I took a quick shower, brushing my teeth before changing into the maid outfit that was planted on my bed.
Judging from the scent, I could tell that it was brought by Anna.
In no time, I was clad in a black gown with white trim that stopped on my knee. A small white apron was attached to the waist with laces wired around it. Despite it being a bit bigger than me, it hugged my figure perfectly.
My hourglass shape was pronounced, and my cleavage was a bit exposed.
Who the hell made this dress?
It was quite different from Anna’s dress, which was more decent, though Anna wasn’t endowed. But she was complimented with fair skin and moderate-sized boobs.
When I was done, I went to the kitchen to assist her.
My room to the kitchen was a bit lengthy as my room was the last on the row, beside it was Alpha Casper’s private elevator and staircase leading to the last floor.
Not only was it tempting, but it was not a good idea for a curious person like me.
Turning the knob, I pushed the door open gently, peeking in before I entered, but Anna wasn’t there. I was about to turn to leave when a loud voice pierced my ear.
“Look at you,” she squeaked like a rat, glancing at me like she was impressed with what she saw. “Your perfect size.”
Her glittering eyes didn’t stop hovering all over my body.
“Who made this dress?” I retorted, not giving her time to undress me with her eyes.
“Oh, I bought it from a store in the human world. You are the first person to wear it,” she beamed proudly.
“So no maid was here before me?”
“If not that you need money badly, would you have agreed to work in a scary place like this?” She asked, cocking her head to the side, while I burst into a series of laughter.
“So you agree that this place is scary to you? I thought you really liked it here.”
“Gosh. I get freaked out at night sometimes.”
My laughter subsided and we strode into the kitchen.
“Go to your room, I don’t want to stress you on your first day,” Anna suggested, resting her kind eyes on my surprised ones.
“Nah, I’ll just stay here. I’m bored,” I replied, playing with my nails.
“Suit yourself.” She smiled, exchanging a short look with me before walking to the cabinet that hung on the wall above her.
She stretched, trying to open it, but it was out of reach for her.
I walked over to where she stood, opened the cabinet, and took a packet of pasta out of it easily.
“You see why you need me around?” I asked, the corner of my lips twisting into a smirk.
“That was so kind of you. I usually hop over that low stool if I can’t reach it,” she confessed before pointing at a stool that sat in the corner against the wall.
“What are you making? Pasta?”
‘Not just pasta. Chicken taco pasta.” She corrected, before giggling in excitement.
From her reaction, I could tell that she was passionate about cooking.
“Good. I’ll just stick around and play some nice music.” I suggested, leaning against the cabinet.
A hiss slipped from my lips as I realized my phone was off.
“Battery problems. I’m sick of repairing this phone.” I replied to her with a huff.
The stupid phone goes off at 70%.
When I had settled the hospital bills, I would get a new phone.
Bored of standing and watching, I started to rinse the chicken breast under running water before slicing it.
When we were done cooking, I had a quick shower to rinse off the sweat that clogged my skin before spending the rest of the day chatting and playing some games with Anna.
Turns out she was not as boring as she looked and her aura was warm and friendly.
After I had picked up my remaining stuff from Anna’s room, I slipped into my room, locking the door since night had fallen. Peeling the maid outfit off my body, I chucked it into the laundry basket.
I was given several of the outfits to change into.
I was cladded in one of the nightgowns that Anna offered me. It stopped above my knee, revealing a huge amount of my straight legs.
I buried myself in the book that I found in the drawing room. Each page seemed to lock my interest.
It didn’t take time before I dozed off and the book fell upon my face.
My faint snores filled the room as I was deep asleep until I started to hear faint wheezing sounds.
Maybe it was my dream. But I wasn’t dreaming.
Then it should be my imagination.
I tossed in my sleep, clutching the soft pillow tightly over my ears before embracing sleep, bit the wheezing sound would stop.
Annoyed that my sleep had been interrupted, I sat up, leaning against the headboard before letting out a hiss.
What the hell was making noise and where was it coming from by this time of the night?
The sound continued. It sounded like the continuous hisses from a worn-out engine. Except it wasn’t an engine.
I tip-toed to the door, placing my ear on it to have a better perception.
Only then did the sound make sense.
It seemed like it was someone struggling to breathe.
Alarmed, my hand clasped around the key that disappeared into the door partly as I almost unlocked the door.
My eyes landed on the wall clock before it widened.
11:30 pm!
The rules re-echoed in my ears, warning me against the dangers of stepping out.
I wanted to go to my bed, clutch my pillows tight over my ears, and sleep over it, but a huge part of me was bent on getting to the root of the noise.
Unable to give in to my rational side, I hurried over to the nightstand where I plugged my phone, disconnected the charger, and switched the light on.
My hands clutched the knob and I carefully turned it at the same time with the key.
Cloaked in fear, my pulse wouldn’t stop pounding in my ears.
Slowly, I pushed the door open, walking out of it before shutting it without making a noise.
I was swallowed by an unexpected blanket of darkness that loomed over me.
Using my torchlight, I navigated my way, letting my legs take me to the origin of the wheezing sound.
My teeth chattered noisily and my palms grew sweaty as I was covered in fear.
But then, a horrific sight came to my view.
I rushed to the figure of Alpha Casper lying on the bottom of the staircase, his hands clasping his chest tightly as he struggled to breathe.
Blood drained from his already pale face and he looked like he was about to pass out.
Despite being aware that I was going against his restrictions, I shoved the thought aside.
Fuck the rules.
But then, I hope my inquisitive and helpful nature won’t be the death of me.
