Otherwise, there was no way he could be his child.
All of his emotional firsts were given to Rosalind, with no second person.
…
The happiest person upon learning that Ulric might have an illegitimate child was Lion.
After hearing the news, he was wide awake!
Since it was too early, he feared disturbing Rosalind and her daughter’s rest, so he didn’t call her immediately. He waited until almost noon before he couldn’t hold back any longer.
After a few rings, Rosalind’s voice came through.
Perhaps she was too anxious; her voice sounded hoarse.
“Hello, Lion.”
“Have you found your daughter yet?”
Rosalind was about to say no, but upon hearing him mention her daughter, she quickly changed her answer to avoid complications. “Yes, I found her.”
“That’s good!” Lion also breathed a sigh of relief.
“But my daughter is quite clingy. I might need some more time before I can return to work. Can I extend my leave…”
“No problem! I’m here at the company. If anything comes up, I’ll handle it for you. Just focus on spending time with your daughter!” Lion laughed. “And you don’t need to worry about Ulric finding out about your daughter for now.”
“Hmm?”
Lion deliberately steered the conversation towards Ulric’s illegitimate child.
He wanted Rosalind to give up on Ulric, to know that he wasn’t a good person either.
“Johnny said an illegitimate child went to the company looking for him! The boy looks just like Ulric; everyone who saw him said he must be his son.”
As he spoke, Rosalind fell silent on the other end.
But this was within Lion’s expectations!
Rosalind clearly still had feelings for Ulric. She couldn’t accept the existence of this illegitimate child! The blow was too much; her silence was understandable.
In reality, this actually helped Rosalind.
Jake, it must be Jake.
“Rosalind? What’s wrong?” Lion asked, feigning concern.
“Nothing! So what happened next? Did Ulric accept the child?” Rosalind wanted to find out Jake’s current situation.
It seemed her worst fear had already come true.
Now she needed to see if she could get Jake back quickly so they could leave the country and avoid being found by the Walters family.
“He looks so much like him; how could he not accept him? In front of everyone, could he deny the child’s identity? I think the Walters family would take him in and give him a proper status.”
“Lion, who told you this?”
“Johnny! So it can’t be wrong.”
“Oh… Can you ask Johnny for me? What does Ulric plan to do with the child, and does the Walters family know about this?”
Lion assumed Rosalind still wasn’t ready to give up on Ulric. She still cared about his decisions.
“Alright, I’ll ask for you! Rosalind, even though you were once married, you’re divorced now. You need to accept that he’s moved on! With Ulric’s status, women will always flock to him. Having an illegitimate child is normal.”
Lion’s repeated mention of “illegitimate child” made Rosalind uncomfortable. “Ulric didn’t know about it, so it’s not really an illegitimate child.”
“Aren’t all children born out of wedlock illegitimate? What’s the difference?”
“Not necessarily. Didn’t Ulric get married? Maybe it’s his wife’s child.”
