Johnny thought she was really in pain, so he didn’t bother with his phone and quickly drove to the hospital.
Once there, he carried Sirena to the cardiology department.
After a flurry of activity, he was drenched in sweat. When he finally sat down to rest, he remembered someone had called him earlier.
He took out his phone and saw several missed calls from his assistant, followed by one from Ulric.
Since he hadn’t answered, Ulric had sent a message instead.
[I’ve boarded the plane back to Northville City. Reply when you see this.]
Just as Johnny was about to respond, his assistant called again.
He wondered if the kid was causing trouble and not listening.
“Hello? What’s going on?”
“Mr. Chow! You asked me to look after the child at the hotel. I came, but… there’s no child in the room!”
Johnny stood up from his chair.
“What did you say?!”
“The child isn’t here. I tried calling you, but you didn’t answer. I asked the hotel front desk, and they said… a man came and took the child away!”
Johnny’s heart sank.
Had he lost Ulric’s son?
“Hurry, go find him! Check the surveillance footage and find out where that man took the child! We must find him!”
“I understand, Mr. Chow.”
After hanging up, Johnny’s hands were shaking.
If he told Ulric now that the child was missing…
He couldn’t even imagine what would happen to him.
A nurse called out from the examination room.
He licked his dry lips and walked into the room. “Doctor, how is she?”
“There’s nothing wrong. I ran some tests and everything is normal! She might have been staying up late recently, causing her irregular heartbeat.”
“… Thank you, doctor.”
Johnny’s mind was consumed with thoughts about the missing child; he couldn’t focus on Sirena’s condition at all.
After helping her back into the car, Johnny said, “I’ll drop you off at your company. I have something urgent to take care of.”
Sirena looked at him. “What’s so urgent that you can’t take me home?”
“The child who looks like Ulric is missing! I need to go find him.”
“What?” Sirena was shocked. “How did that happen? How can a child go missing? Quick, take me with you. I’ll help you find him!”
Johnny glanced at her. “You want to help?”
“Yes!” Sirena said matter-of-factly. “I may not accept that Ulric has a child, but it’s still a life! If something happens to him, I’d be very sad too! Johnny, do you think I have no compassion at all?”
“… Alright.”
Johnny wasted no time and drove straight to the hotel.
The assistant had already pulled up all the surrounding surveillance footage and was reviewing it bit by bit.
“Mr. Chow.”
“Any news?”
The assistant shook his head. “No, and it seems like the person who took him came prepared. The cameras didn’t capture his face clearly.”
Johnny was really getting anxious now!
Ulric would be arriving in Northville City soon.
Sirena patted his shoulder comfortingly. “Why are you so anxious? It’s obvious someone has been looking after that kid all along. He sneaked out on his own and now they’ve taken him back. Isn’t that normal?”
Johnny frowned. “Ulric hasn’t seen him yet! And we can’t be sure who took him.”
