Bella was quickly silenced by the woman called Kendra Wolmer, who poked her nose with a finger. “Bella, behave yourself.”
“Let Mr. Kemp handle his business while we enjoy the view.”
Kendra glanced at Darnell. “They have nothing to do with us.”
Though Bella stopped talking, she continued to laugh, clutching her stomach and irritating everyone around.
David’s face turned grim.
Compared to being mocked by Bella, Darnell was more shocked by Areli’s statement. Boyfriend? How did he not know?
Cold sweat broke out on Darnell’s forehead. He hadn’t expected that as a chauffeur, he’d also have to play the role of a boyfriend, which would surely make enemies.
Feeling the chill, he glanced at Tia and saw her cold and indifferent eyes. He was stunned, unsure why she had suddenly changed.
However, to help Areli get rid of David, he dismissed his chaotic thoughts and dutifully put his arm around her, his fingers unceremoniously rubbing her waist.
He spoke with a tone of complaint, “Areli, didn’t I tell you not to make our relationship public? It will bring you negative consequences.”
“We can date quietly and keep our bedroom activities private.”
He whispered into Areli’s ear with a chuckle, “But fine, since you revealed our relationship, I’ll face it openly.”
Suddenly, he shouted with overwhelming force, “That’s right! Areli is my woman.”
Areli maintained a faintly sweet smile but inwardly wished she could break his hand for taking advantage of her. This bastard was pushing his luck.
Jazmine sneered coldly and spat out a sharp remark, “Miss Fanshaw usually keeps strangers at bay at parties and doesn’t get close to anyone. I thought she was an untouchable fairy.”
“Turns out she’s seeing somebody. But at least date someone better.”
“Such a man will only disgrace you.”
Areli’s pretty face darkened as she retorted sharply, “What does my business have to do with you?”
“It indeed has nothing to do with me. I just can’t stand your arrogance.”
Jazmine mocked coldly, “I despise bitches and don’t like seeing David being deceived.”
She harbored an inexplicable hostility towards Areli because she had strong possessive desires towards David, who was five or six years younger than her. They had been having an affair for two years, enjoying their physical relationship. However, Areli’s appearance changed David’s heart.
David fell for Areli, making Jazmine hate her. Therefore, she seized every opportunity to mock or trample on her.
As David snapped out of the shock, his face darkened. “He’s your boyfriend? Areli, stop joking around. There’s no need for this tantrum.”
“If he were really your boyfriend, how could I not know? A week ago in Whiteville, there was no such person.”
Tia looked at the two of them with twitching eyelids but no longer showed any emotion.
Bella and her group seemed to find today’s drama quite entertaining as their haughty gazes finally shifted from afar to David.
Before Areli could respond, Darnell replied with a grin, “Mr. Kemp, it’s not too late to know now.”
“Besides, we don’t broadcast our bedroom activities publicly. How could you possibly know?”
He stepped forward proudly and stared down David. “Stop being delusional. Areli is my woman.”
“If you keep pestering her, watch out or I’ll castrate you.”
Hearing these words from Darnell made David lose his temper. “Watch your mouth! Don’t get yourself in trouble.”
“You don’t have a powerful background. You’d better shut up and wipe that ignorant smile off your face. Some people are not for you to mess with!”
Darnell laughed heartily at this. “It seems Mr. Kemp is quite influential.”
“Of course! My dad is the Director of Commerce.”
“The mayor of Whiteville is my uncle. Spencer Matson from Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and Miss Picton from the Harmony Hospital are my friends. Even the notorious gang, the Crow, show me some respect.”
David’s face was full of pride as he boasted about his connections before giving Darnell a dismissive snort.
“Now that you know who I am, get lost! Stop pretending to be some knight in shining armor or you’ll bring big trouble upon yourself.”
He looked at Areli, feigning realization. “Areli, I know you are doing this out of spite.”
“I bet my head he’s not really your man.”
He stared intently at Areli’s calm expression. “But if you’re going to find someone to play your boyfriend, it doesn’t have to be him!”
“Using a nobody like him to get back at me?”
If David hadn’t known that using violence in front of women was a bad idea for wooing them, and if he hadn’t witnessed Darnell’s ruthlessness before, he might have already charged forward for a fight.
Damn it! Finding someone to pretend as her boyfriend wasn’t an issue. It was just a woman’s way of playing hard-to-get.
What infuriated him was Darnell’s lack of tact in playing along with this act. Thinking of this, he glared at Darnell.
Moreover, he still remembered that slap from last time and would naturally want revenge when given the chance.
Jazmine also sneered coldly, “David, I’m afraid some people are naturally self-righteous and won’t realize their own insignificance until they suffer.”
“It seems Miss Picton has suffered quite a bit,” Darnell retorted without hesitation before smiling and holding Areli tighter, ignoring David’s icy glare.
“Stop making jokes,” he continued dismissively. “You want to pursue Areli without sincerity or genuine feelings but use contracts and deals instead? And then make her apologize to a bitter old woman?”
“What do you take Areli for? Someone who can be bought?”
“You disguise your hormonal urges as love shamelessly.”
“Do you think Areli would like you?”
Darnell inhaled Areli’s scent deeply before continuing, “Besides, didn’t you promise not to harass Areli anymore? Why are you going back on your word now?”
Areli also spoke coldly, “That’s right. I already told you at the restaurant. If you have any decency left in you, stop bothering me or I’ll call the police.”
“What do you mean by that?” David roared furiously upon hearing this. “Why are you smearing me in front of Areli? Do you think this will win her favor?”
“Don’t you find it despicable to sabotage our relationship? And this is between me and Areli. What does it have to do with you?”
His face twisted into anger as he threatened Darnell further. “Don’t test my limits!”
“If you offend me again, I’ll make sure you’ll die!”
Before Darnell could respond, David’s companions got agitated one by one and started shouting aggressively at him.
“Yeah! Who do you think you are?”
“You dare challenge Mr. Kemp? You’re digging your own grave!”
“You’re just a chauffeur. What makes you think you’re anything special?”
“You should know better than to provoke Mr. Kemp!”
At that moment, Darnell pulled Areli into his arms closer and planted a firm kiss on her cheek before wiping his mouth with a grin.
He said smugly, “Bite me!”
