At 7:30 PM, a red Porsche appeared at the Whiteville Golf Club. The place was bustling with people. Luxury cars were everywhere, and handsome men and beautiful women were in constant motion.
However, no matter how glamorous they were, none were as eye-catching as Darnell. When he stepped out of the car, he immediately drew countless gazes.
He wore a red vest on the outside, a white shirt on the inside, black pants, a red hat, and black leather shoes, resembling a valet attendant’s outfit.
Darnell walked politely to the other side of the car, opened the door for Areli, and announced, “Boss, we’ve arrived.”
Then he stood up straight and called out loudly, “Areli Fanshaw from Spectrum Pharmaceuticals has arrived.”
“Don’t say you know me…”
Areli used her handbag to cover half her face and weakly said, “Stay away from me.”
Darnell’s actions not only made him the center of attention but also caused others to point fingers at Areli, thinking she was vain.
“Miss Fanshaw, you told me to change into this outfit. Why don’t you like it now?”
Darnell followed behind Areli and shouted, “This outfit is quite good. Hey, watch your step…”
Areli fled in embarrassment.
She regretted telling Darnell to change clothes. She swore she would never interfere with his clothing choices again.
“What are you looking at?”
Darnell glanced around at the onlookers and pulled out a carrot, saying, “Never seen such a professional chauffeur?”
The crowd dispersed quickly.
Attracting curious glances all the way, Areli was almost dying of embarrassment. She was furious with Darnell’s antics.
This man could infuriate anyone in minutes. She wished she hadn’t asked him to help today.
But this order was tricky. Areli hoped Darnell could help a bit.
After all, this man’s luck was always exceptionally good.
She adjusted her clothes and looked at Darnell as she spoke, “Today’s order is very important. If we secure it, it will significantly boost our company’s business.”
“But today’s client is notoriously difficult to deal with, worse than Chandler, sharp-tongued, mean, and arrogant.”
“Don’t worry. No matter how tough the client is, I’ll handle him easily.”
Darnell bit off a piece of carrot with a crunch and looked curious.
“I just don’t understand. As the head of the branch office, you should be sitting in your office, telling others to do the job.”
“Why do you have to personally meet clients? Isn’t this overkill for you?”
According to the information about Areli, she had an intimidating IQ and impressive EQ. Her strengths were in laboratory work and management but not in business dealings.
Areli’s expression faltered slightly. A hint of worry appeared between her brows but quickly returned to normal. “Customer first, understand?”
“And this client specifically requested to talk with me. She is a significant figure. It’s normal for me to negotiate personally.”
She didn’t want to easily share her pressure with Darnell.
Darnell noticed the worry between Areli’s brows but didn’t ask out of curiosity. He just responded with an “oh”.
He thought about finding an opportunity to ask Wendy if Areli had other pressures.
At that moment, Areli turned a corner towards the west side area. From afar, she saw a tall figure standing under a golf course umbrella.
“Miss Picton, good morning.”
Areli walked towards the target umbrella with Darnell. From ten meters away, she raised a smile and warmly greeted,
“Sorry for being late today.”
Darnell squinted his eyes and saw a charming woman turn around. She had a heavily made-up face with almond-shaped eyes and a voluptuous figure.
Although she was older, fashion and maintenance kept her charming. Her tight sportswear accentuated her curvy figure.
However, there was a shrewd and mean look between her brows. Darnell knew right away that this was a strong-willed woman.
“Good morning, Miss Fanshaw.”
The charming woman called Jazmine Picton approached and shook hands with Areli with a fake smile.
“It’s my great honor that you came over. How could I blame you?”
Then she looked at Darnell beside her. “Oh my, such a dedicated chauffeur.”
“It seems Areli’s status is getting higher. Next time I might have to make an appointment before visiting you.”
Jazmine looked charming but spoke with a sneer that made her seem extremely proud and cold.
Several female companions beside her laughed directly upon seeing Darnell’s appearance. Their eyes were full of contempt and disdain. They almost called him a bumpkin outright.
These pampered women wouldn’t look up to someone who clearly appeared as a chauffeur.
“Miss Picton, you do have a sense of humor.”
Areli’s lips twitched slightly. She could hear the mockery in Jazmine’s words but suppressed her displeasure for the sake of the order.
“I’m merely a general manager. The Matson Group can replace me anytime.”
“But Miss Picton is the director of Whiteville’s largest private hospital. No one can replace you.”
“Oh right, this is Darnell Halford from Spectrum Pharmaceuticals’s sales department. He’s also my chauffeur.”
Areli introduced Darnell with a smile. “Darnell, this is Miss Picton, director of the Harmony Hospital.”
Darnell extended his hand politely. “Pleasure to meet you.”
Although he found this woman unpleasant, he still showed courtesy out of respect.
“Darnell? You have a nice name but lack manners.”
Jazmine glanced at Darnell briefly before pulling back her hand lightly. She then took out a wet wipe from her assistant to clean her hand, showing no respect for Areli,
“Miss Fanshaw, not to criticize you, but in life and work, one should always strive for the best and aim to be number one, whether it’s performance or social circles…”
“You have to be number one.”
Jazmine lectured Areli, “Only by being number one will you be remembered.”
She glanced at Darnell before adding, “In the future, it’s better to have people of higher quality around you. It’s also a way to respect yourself.”
A few female companions laughed and agreed, “Yes, respect is given by others, but you lose your dignity yourself. In this circle, don’t bring in unsophisticated people.”
Darnell knew she was alluding to him and wanted to fight back, but thinking of Areli’s predicament, he temporarily endured it.
Areli’s mouth twitched. “Miss Picton makes a valid point.”
She only said it was valid, not necessarily correct, indicating that she did not fully agree with her words.
Jazmine could also hear the implied meaning in Areli’s words, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “What? Does Miss Fanshaw have any objections?”
“You, with such high intelligence, should not fail to understand my words. Be the best in everything, be number one, and you will be noticed and respected.”
“Let me give you a simple example. Do you know who was the first person to climb Mount Everest?”
Areli calmly replied, “Edmund Hillary.”
“Everyone knows the first one, right? What if I ask about the second one?”
Jazmine’s smile was very smug. “You definitely wouldn’t know, and that’s the point…”
Darnell chimed in at an inopportune moment, “The second one was Tenzing Norgay.”
Jazmine’s smile faltered, then she pretended not to hear Darnell’s words and continued, “Let me give another example. Who was the first person to land on the moon?”
Areli held back her laughter and answered, “Neil Armstrong.”
Jazmine was very pleased with Areli’s response. “Right, everyone knows the first one, but the second one is not remembered.”
Darnell replied, “The second one was Buzz Aldrin.”
“The third was Pete Conrad, and the fourth was Alan Bean. The fifth was…”
Jazmine’s face darkened.
