“Good thing I ran fast!”
Darnell drove his car out of the repair shop as fast as he could.
Seeing Judith’s furious expression in the rearview mirror, he silently thanked his luck. If she had caught him, he feared she would have broken three of his fingers.
As for any repercussions later, Darnell wasn’t worried. He wasn’t at fault today. Judith and her group, if they had any sense, wouldn’t blame him for Nick’s injury. As for taking advantage of her, that could be settled another day.
He regretted that the police arrived too quickly, preventing him from delivering a heavy blow to Nick, which might have crushed his spirit and stopped further entanglements.
As Darnell turned the steering wheel and stopped at an intersection, a sudden burst of intense gunfire erupted ahead.
Darnell’s body tensed slightly, and his eyes were sharp. Damn it! A shootout? Bad luck!
Two more gunshots rang out. Pedestrians and cars on the road became frantic, ignoring traffic lights and scattering to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
Then, Darnell saw a man in black riding a motorcycle emerge from the side. He wore a helmet and held a gun.
The man in black was fierce, shooting while riding. Two police cars chased closely behind him, refusing to let go. One officer was particularly bold, almost half out of the car while shooting.
Bullets flew back and forth. The police cars gained several bullet holes, and two bullets grazed past the man in black.
The police were cautious of pedestrians and vehicles on the road. Despite their numbers, they didn’t shoot frequently, giving the man in black a chance to escape.
“Time to do a good deed.”
Darnell saw that the man in black was about ten meters away from him and noticed the two blocked police cars. He grabbed an iron rod he had taken from the repair area.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Darnell swung the rod hard. It whistled through the air and struck the man’s helmet perfectly.
With a loud clang, the man in black, focused on fighting off the police, was hit hard. His body shook, and he fell off his motorcycle.
The motorcycle skidded over ten meters away and got stuck under a truck’s wheel, rendering it unusable.
The man in black got up from the ground and yanked off his heavy helmet, revealing a face stained with blood, sharp and fierce.
He angrily glared at the iron rod that had hit him.
“Don’t move!”
At this moment, three agile police officers rushed forward with raised guns to push through the crowd and target the man in black.
As soon as they shouted their command, the man in black grinned menacingly. His explosive muscles bulged instantly as he bent down, his black clothes billowing like a curtain over the heads of the three armed officers.
Simultaneously, he slid back deftly out of his black coat’s cover with clean precision.
The ferocious man only took two steps back before shifting his weight onto his right foot. The ground trembled slightly as his hundred-pound body moved with panther-like speed. In that split second when darkness fell from his coat, he lunged forward recklessly at the three officers.
Two burly officers were sent flying into a vehicle parked by the roadside. They bounced off and fell unconscious immediately.
One officer reacted quickly and retreated upon seeing him charge but couldn’t get far enough to shoot.
The man in black gave no chance for a shot. He shifted sideways and kicked swiftly.
The officer instinctively raised his hand to block but was knocked down along with his gun by their collision. Blood spurted from his mouth as he hit the ground hard.
Though pained by his right foot’s impact, the man in black gritted through it. He rolled swiftly on the ground and grabbed hold of the injured officer as a shield.
Darnell was slightly surprised at how fierce this man was. He regretted not hitting harder with that rod earlier.
In the fading sunlight on both sides of them stood seven or eight policemen raising their guns. “Kameron”
They wanted to save their comrade but were too slow. The man in black spun Kameron’s gun elegantly twice before pointing its dark barrel at them.
Gunfire erupted continuously. Sensing danger ahead of time caused seven or eight officers to either drop flat or hide behind nearby vehicles just in time before bullets tore through five people and wrecked three cars, debris flying everywhere amidst thick dust clouds, demonstrating immense power.
After taking down nearly half of them with precision shots, the man in black retreated towards Darnell’s Porsche.
Darnell instinctively wanted to step on the gas, but a child dashing across the road ahead forced him to ease off the pedal.
In that split second, the man in black charged forward, dropped the injured Kameron, raised his gun, and dove into the passenger seat, barking harshly, “Drive now!”
Darnell considered taking action, but seeing the man holding not only a gun in his right hand but also what looked like a grenade in his left, he dismissed the idea.
The crowd around them was in chaos. If the grenade detonated, many people would likely be killed or injured. Thus, he feigned fear and asked, “Sir, w-where to?”
“Drive forward! Hurry up,” the man in black shouted. “If I get caught by the police, you’re dead too.”
He clutched the grenade tightly in his left hand and fired two precise shots with his right, taking down a police officer who was getting up. This action made the rest of the police officers take cover.
Seizing the moment, the man in black turned to Darnell and bellowed, “Why aren’t you driving? Want to die?”
“No!” Darnell fumbled to start the car and then hit the pedal to the metal.
“Faster!” the man in black demanded, pressing the gun against Darnell. “Drive as fast as you can. We can’t let the police catch us. If they do, I’ll kill you first.”
“Understood. Sir, could you move your gun?” Darnell spoke with a gloomy expression. “I just got my license. I’m new to this, and my nerves aren’t strong. I’m scared with the gun pointed at me.”
“Scared of what?” the man in black cursed, but he still moved the gun away a little. In his view, Darnell was thoroughly frightened. “Speed up!”
“Right away,” Darnell responded, stepping on the gas and speeding through the chaotic traffic. He appeared to be a novice driver, swerving left and right, nearly causing accidents several times.
Naturally, his driving wasn’t fast, and a few kilometers later, the sound of sirens filled the air as police reinforcements arrived.
Three police cars pursued them with their sirens blaring.
The man in black glanced back, his face contorted with murderous intent. “Damn it! They dare to chase me?”
He fired a shot, blowing out the tire of a van, which flipped over with a loud crash, momentarily blocking the police cars.
Then, the man in black shifted his aim to the fuel tank of a tanker truck, a sinister grin on his face. “Go to hell.”
If this shot hit, half the road would be destroyed.
