Harry’s knuckles were bleeding, the pain excruciating. He shouted, “What are you hiding on you?”
Eliezer also yelled, “Darnell, what kind of dirty trick are you playing now?”
He had thought Harry would knock out Darnell with one punch, but instead, Harry got injured. This was the fighter Brian had hired for three hundred thousand dollars.
Casey and the others rushed over to Darnell, full of concern. “Mr. Halford, are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Shayla angrily shouted, “Why did you hit him?”
Eliezer twisted the truth and shouted, “Now my man is injured. Darnell, you’re despicable. What are you hiding on you?”
Darnell reached over his shoulder and pulled out three rivets, looking innocent. “Nothing. Just three rivets.”
“These days, on the subway, women keep touching me inappropriately. It’s really annoying.”
“So I put a few rivets on me to avoid being harassed by those female hooligans.”
Darnell looked troubled. “I even got groped twice this morning. Being handsome isn’t easy.”
Eliezer and his group were exasperated, while Casey and her friends rolled their eyes in unison, thinking Darnell was truly narcissistic.
Harry flared up upon hearing this and wanted to charge at Darnell but was blocked by Casey and the others. Eliezer signaled him not to move.
One punch hadn’t taken Darnell down. Another would be meaningless.
Thus, Harry could only step aside, his face full of grievances and anger as he glared at Darnell.
Having fought thirteen matches undefeated, he felt humiliated today. He swore to ruin Darnell.
“Everyone saw it. You hit me first.”
Darnell pointed at Harry and laughed, “Your injury has nothing to do with me. Don’t make me pay for your doctor’s bills.”
Casey and Shayla backed him up. “Yes, we saw you hit Mr. Halford first.”
Eliezer was furious but knew he couldn’t twist the facts in front of everyone.
“See? Everyone backs me up on this.”
Darnell then changed the subject. “Mr. Izzard, I have to visit clients. Let’s wrap it up and pay me three hundred dollars.”
“If you won’t agree, let’s go find Miss Fanshaw. Ask her if two pokes into her tea with my finger are worth three hundred dollars as an apology.”
“And ask if your subordinate suddenly injuring someone should get the police involved.”
“You bastard!”
Eliezer took a deep breath, pulled out his wallet, took out three hundred-dollar bills, and slammed them on the table. “Take it!”
He had to endure it for now. In ten days, he would get his revenge with interest.
Darnell immediately pocketed the money and nodded with a smile. “Thank you, Mr. Izzard. Next time, don’t poke around randomly.”
“I’ll consider this money as buying medicine for a scoundrel.”
Eliezer glared at Darnell fiercely. “Don’t think that just because Miss Fanshaw supports you, you can ignore your superiors.”
He pointed at Darnell and cursed, “I’m telling you, in ten days, if Phoenix Team doesn’t achieve the ten-million-dollar sales goal, you’ll all be kicked out.”
With these words, Casey and her group’s momentum weakened instantly, since they were still far from achieving the goal.
Several of Eliezer’s subordinates echoed. “Yes, if you can’t meet the goal, you’re all fired!”
“Ten days? Ten million dollars?”
Darnell glanced at the time and smiled. “No problem at all. I’ll achieve five hundred thousand today.”
Casey and her group were shocked upon hearing this. They wondered why Darnell was so confident and whether he had secretly secured a deal.
“Achieve five hundred thousand today?”
Eliezer sneered at Darnell’s declaration. “You’re just bluffing.”
His subordinates also snickered.
“Darnell, if you can achieve the ten-million-dollar sales goal this month, including the Spades Tribe’s deal, I’ll give you a ten percent commission from my own pocket if the company doesn’t cover it, ” Eliezer said.
There was an uproar among the people. Over four million dollars in performance meant four hundred thousand in commission. After deducting Casey’s group’s share, it still had over three hundred thousand.
“If you can’t achieve a million-dollar performance,” Eliezer continued aggressively, “Not only will you be kicked out of the sales department, but you’ll also have to give up your commission from the Spades Tribe’s deal.”
He pressed on, “Dare to accept the challenge? Aren’t you so confident? Why hesitate now?”
His subordinates joined in, jeering at Darnell, “Of course, he doesn’t dare to accept the challenge. Coward!”
“Mr. Halford, don’t bet with him. Achieving a ten-million goal in ten days is too difficult,” Casey advised softly.
“And it’s unfair to you. Don’t accept it.”
“Given your position, you’d get eight percent commission on the African deal, which means Mr. Izzard’s just offering two percent from his pocket. He’s gambling two points for your eight points commission! It’s too much of a loss for you.”
Shayla also advised Darnell, “Exactly, Mr. Halford. Don’t act impulsively and risk losing two hundred thousand in commission.”
Bailee stepped forward, trying to talk him out of it. “Phoenix Team isn’t worth two hundred thousand after all.”
“Shut up!”
Seeing the three women advising Darnell made Eliezer’s face darken as he shouted,
“This is between Mr. Halford and me. None of you have any right to speak.”
“If you’ve got time for this nonsense,” he continued,
“You might as well make some more calls, so your performance won’t look so pathetic.”
Then he glared at Darnell impatiently. “Mr. Halford, make up your mind. Bet or not?”
He wanted to kick Darnell out quickly to avenge Roberto and Brian.
Darnell said with a smile, “Mr. Izzard, the bet is fine, but the terms are indeed unfair.”
“Apart from me, there are also three ladies in Phoenix Team, and you should add more stakes.”
Darnell’s eyes sparkled cunningly as he continued, “If I win, you personally increase Phoenix Team’s base salary from five thousand to ten thousand dollars each, and raise their commission rate to ten percent.”
“In addition,” he continued, “I want two more teams under my management, meaning I can expand our group by thirty members. Of course, their base salary will follow company standards.”
Darnell tapped his fingers on the table nonchalantly.
“If you agree,” he concluded,
“We’ll put it in writing for this bet.”
“Fine! Deal!” Eliezer responded without hesitation.
“If you achieve the ten-million-dollar performance, I’ll double Phoenix Team’s base salary and commission rate and give you three team slots.”
He was convinced that Darnell would lose the bet.
Eliezer quickly had someone draft an agreement.
He then signed it, believing he’d profit greatly from this win.
As Darnell picked up the pen to sign, Casey called out, “Mr. Halford!”
“Don’t worry!”
Darnell signed gracefully while Eliezer smirked, thinking Darnell was still too naive.
With Phoenix Team’s business deals disrupted by Eliezer, achieving the ten-million-dollar sales goal in ten days seemed impossible. Even working day and night wouldn’t make a difference.
Thinking about legitimately claiming Darnell’s commission while avenging Brian, Eliezer felt completely satisfied.
He believed Roberto would look favorably upon him for this move.
Unfortunately for him, this satisfaction lasted only half a minute.
Before the onlookers dispersed, the office’s door burst open with a bang.
A middle-aged man stormed in, screaming hoarsely, “Darnell!”
Eliezer and his group turned their heads simultaneously. Recognizing who it was, Eliezer exclaimed in surprise, “Chandler?”
