“Mr. Halford, do you know how to treat patients? Which medical school did you graduate from?”
After leaving the administrative building, Casey approached Darnell with a smile on her face. “You’re amazing.”
Darnell took a deep breath, savoring the subtle fragrance emanating from her. Although he had strong willpower, Casey’s proximity made his mind wander.
He quickly suppressed his thoughts. “I didn’t graduate from any medical school, nor do I have a license to practice. My medical skills are entirely self-taught.”
“Oops!”
Casey stumbled and nearly fell down the stairs, but Darnell caught her just in time. He then spoke earnestly, “Be careful when you walk, or you’ll end up exposing yourself if you fall. Then, should I look or not?”
“Mr. Halford, you’re so horny.”
Casey shot him a flirtatious glance and then asked softly, “Mr. Halford, is your prescription effective?”
“I’m not worried about our order. I’m concerned that Chandler might have issues after taking the medicine.”
If Chandler had problems with the medication, it would be troublesome for Darnell. She didn’t want anything to happen to him.
Although they had only been together for a few days, Casey had grown dependent on Darnell. His presence always brought warmth.
“Don’t worry.”
Darnell laughed heartily as he helped Casey down the stairs. “Even though my medical skills were self-taught, they’re more than enough for this illness.”
“Just wait three days to sign the three-million-dollar contract. That completes thirty percent of our quarterly target and will earn you a lot of money.”
As they spoke, they reached the area near the hospital’s back entrance, which was closer to the subway and bus stations.
“If we really sign it, it’s all thanks to you, Mr. Halford. How could I take all the credit?”
Casey’s eyes filled with anticipation as she saw Darnell’s confidence. “I’ll split half of the commission with you and share the other half with Bailee and Shayla.”
Although she often bickered with Bailee and Shayla, their bond was tight.
Darnell was slightly taken aback by her sincerity and appreciated her spirit of sharing joys and sorrows.
Then he remembered something. “Casey, I have a question. Last time I passed by the staircase door, I overheard Bailee on the phone.”
“She was very upset and crying about something related to her parents. Do you know what happened?”
Casey was momentarily stunned by his question.
Darnell wore a rare serious expression on his face. He smiled softly and added, “Don’t overthink it. I’m not being nosy. I’m just worried about her.”
“I think it’s tough for a girl like her and wanted to see if I could help. Of course, if it’s inconvenient for you to talk about it, I won’t press further.”
Casey’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Darnell with increased affection. “If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t tell them.”
“But Mr. Halford, I trust you. Bailee has indeed been in a bad mood lately.”
“Her parents are scum.”
Casey’s face showed anger as she continued,
“When Bailee was born, her parents each found new lovers and left Bailee at an orphanage with a letter and a hundred dollars.”
“If it weren’t for her grandmother taking her in, she would have grown up in the orphanage.”
“She managed to grow up and go to school thanks to her grandmother selling pastries.”
“Bailee could finish college and get a job because she worked multiple jobs while studying.”
As Darnell listened quietly, Casey sighed deeply, “She hardly rested during those four years. Whenever she had free time, she worked part-time.”
“Bailee’s hard work changed my perspective on life. She inspired me and Shayla deeply.”
Casey’s eyes grew moist as she continued, “Bailee had a tough time in college, but fortunately, she’s smart and beautiful, which gave her more opportunities.”
“In four years, she paid off her student loans and saved over ten thousand dollars after covering her living expenses.”
Darnell nodded in agreement. “That’s truly impressive.”
“But life loves playing jokes on her.”
Casey smirked bitterly, “Three years ago, Bailee’s parents divorced after squandering their share of the family assets due to their laziness.”
“But ironically enough, they ran into each other by chance and remarried. They even found out where Bailee was through her grandmother.”
“They attended Bailee’s graduation ceremony with a fifty-dollar bouquet of flowers.”
“Although Bailee felt indifferent towards them since they were still her parents after all, she invited them for a meal.”
“After dinner, they reminded Bailee that she was an adult, and it was time to repay their ‘parental care’.”
“They demanded two thousand dollars from Bailee to pay off their lottery debts.”
Casey sighed bitterly again. “Bailee refused on the spot, so they cursed at her, but she stood firm and refused to give them any money, then moved away to avoid them.”
“They started calling everyone on Bailee’s contact list, including me and Shayla, cursing at us too for abandoning them as parents.”
“They even went so far as posting public notices at school, threatening suicide.”
“Bailee couldn’t bear seeing friends harassed, so she gave them all her savings plus credit card debt totaling two thousand dollars before they finally stopped bothering her.”
Casey shook her head in sympathy as she went on, “But that peace didn’t last long. Within months since graduation, they kept calling asking for money, claiming various emergencies like being arrested for stealing baby formula.”
“Bailee spent all her money on them while Shayla and I also chipped in over five hundred dollars each, but they’re bottomless pits.”
Darnell narrowed his eyes slightly. “Those are truly despicable parents. Why doesn’t Bailee hide from them?”
Casey replied sadly, “Bailee can’t hide, because if she does, they’ll start calling everyone again, causing trouble.”
“She can’t bear seeing friends harassed, and changing contact info isn’t an option either.”
Darnell sighed deeply, realizing how difficult this situation was.
He frowned thoughtfully. “But letting things continue like this will only embolden them and ruin Bailee’s life.”
Such a good girl shouldn’t be dragged down by such terrible parents.
“Even the police can’t resolve such matters. What else can Bailee do?”
Casey lamented helplessly, “Shayla and I can only support her as best we can.”
Darnell asked quietly, “What are their names?”
Casey rubbed her temples, trying to remember. “I don’t recall her mother’s name, but her father’s name is Pablo Lennard.”
Darnell instantly recalled a man in gray clothes. “Pablo Lennard?”
