Chapter 39 Chandler Gregg

“Mr. Halford, it’s not that we’re incompetent. Someone is sabotaging us.”
Casey spoke softly, “Although we’re rookies, we have passion. In our first month under Natalie’s guidance, we achieved a million in sales.”
“In the second month, we nearly reached four million. We were confident we could hit five million this month.”
“But unexpectedly, at the beginning of the month, our team leader, Natalie, resigned without explanation. When we asked her why, she wouldn’t say.”
“She only mentioned that Eliezer was a villain and told us to be careful.”
Shayla pouted, “After Natalie left, Eliezer removed her sales from our records. Because new employees and veterans have different commission rates, we attributed our sales to Natalie for the first two months to earn a bit more. That was over three million.”
“Now that her sales are removed, we have nothing left.”
Shayla continued, “We appealed to Mr. Gower, but he said the rules of the sales department couldn’t be broken.”
“Moreover, the clients we were supposed to visit and those interested in cooperation all refused to meet us.”
“We found out that Pioneer Properties’ salespeople were stealing our clients, offering slightly lower rates than ours.”
“With only two weeks left, completing five million, no, ten million in sales is just a dream.”
Casey looked frustrated. “This task is impossible. So now we’re just waiting to collect our base salary and leave at the end of the month.”
“There were originally six of us in Python Team, but they couldn’t handle Eliezer’s humiliation and resigned before you took over.”
“It’s not that leaving matters much. It’s just a pity that we won’t find another job with a $5, 000 base salary.”
Having just graduated, a $5, 000 base salary was quite tempting.
Bailee’s eyes dimmed with unspoken sorrow.
“Mr. Izzard hinted that if I became his woman, he could transfer me to another team and ensure I passed this assessment.”
Casey smiled at Darnell, “But he’s not as handsome as Mr. Halford. How could I possibly agree?”
Shayla teased with a smile, “If it were Mr. Halford, would you offer yourself willingly?”
Casey snorted, “Mr. Halford is so smart and charming. If he wanted me to offer myself, I’d throw myself into his arms without hesitation.”
Darnell didn’t enjoy their teasing at that moment. His eyes shifted as he vaguely guessed Eliezer’s sinister intentions. He used high base salaries to lure inexperienced people like Casey and then pressured them constantly, so they would always be anxious about losing their high pay.
As long as Casey and the others coveted this salary, Eliezer had an opportunity to exploit them.
“What a scoundrel, pulling rank to pursue female employees.”
Darnell despised Eliezer deeply and blamed himself. “Why didn’t I think of such shameless tactics?”
He decided to strive for a higher position in the company. That way, pursuing girls would be easier and more convenient. He couldn’t let such pure girls be taken advantage of by others.
Casey poured Darnell another cup of tea with bright eyes. “Mr. Halford, we’re joking around a bit too much.”
“Firstly, since we’re about to part ways soon, we’re having some fun and making friends. Secondly, we’re trying to annoy that old lecher.”
“Let him know we choose you over him.”
Darnell knocked on Casey’s head. “How can you talk like that? You’re making me feel I’m a horrible scoundrel just like him.”
“Mr. Halford, he’s a world apart from you,” Casey smiled sweetly. “It’s just your bad luck that you’re stuck with us in this mess.”
Shayla nodded repeatedly as she echoed, “He made you our team leader just to mess with you. If we don’t achieve the goal, he’ll publicly humiliate you and kick you out.”
“There are still thirteen days left. Maybe a miracle will happen,” Darnell said optimistically.
As the leader of Python Team with three beautiful team members, Darnell didn’t want to disband it. Moreover, Eliezer’s wicked scheme was involved. He didn’t want anyone to be taken advantage of.
His gaze fell on Shayla, who seemed quieter than usual. He felt a bit worried and decided to boost their morale.
“Don’t give up until the last moment. Let’s give it our all. Ten million is achievable.”
“Ten million in thirteen days?” Bailee sighed, “We couldn’t even raise that much if we sold ourselves.”
Shayla tilted her head dejectedly. “Yeah, this task is too difficult. $100, 000 might be possible.”
“You’re young, passionate, and pretty. How can you give it up so soon?” Darnell stretched his arms and spoke with fighting spirit, “Besides, with me here, ten million is within reach.”
“I forgot to tell you when I was working abroad before, I could make millions just by taking a shower. Ten million doesn’t even catch my eye.”
“And haven’t you heard? Not long ago, someone signed a five-million-dollar deal with a large African client?”
Darnell proudly pointed at himself and stated, “That was me, your team leader!”
Bailee and Casey looked up in surprise. “Really?”
Although they were sent out by Eliezer that day to visit clients, they heard from colleagues that the company had secured a five-million-dollar order.
And it was from Africa, a market the company was keen on developing. Both Miss Fanshaw and headquarters were very pleased, but Eliezer hadn’t disclosed who closed the deal.
They had assumed it was an internal resource allocation by the company but never thought it would be Darnell’s achievement.
Realizing Eliezer’s schemes against Darnell made them somewhat believe his words. Eliezer liked more orders from his trusted subordinates but felt uneasy if others outperformed them, fearing they’d take his place.
Casey excitedly grabbed Darnell’s arm. “Mr. Halford, did you really secure that deal?”
Bailee and others also looked at him eagerly. If Darnell truly was an expert at closing deals, then there might still be hope for Python Team.
Darnell nodded grandly. “Of course! If you don’t believe me, ask Mr. Izzard or Miss Fanshaw!”
“If you’re still skeptical, wait until commissions are distributed. You’ll see for yourselves!”
Darnell added smugly, “And by the way, the hero who saved Miss Snow during that restroom incident was also me!”
Hearing this revelation made the three women tremble again. They knew about that heroic act, despite Roberto forbidding discussions about it internally. It had spread quietly among colleagues nonetheless. They never imagined their team leader being involved!
They clapped their hands together joyfully.
“Mr. Halford, you’re amazing!”
“So it was you who saved Miss Snow? Incredible!”
“You even slapped Mr. Towne six times!”
Casey, Shayla, and Bailee looked admiringly at Darnell, exclaiming excitedly, “Mr. Halford, you’re our idol now!”
“Idol? Really?”
Darnell looked delighted. “Doesn’t an idol get special treatment from fans? How about sharing some love equally?”
The three women spat playfully, “Get lost!”
“Just kidding,” he laughed.
To boost morale further, Darnell boasted, “You need to work harder. We’ll achieve ten million within these two weeks!”
“Imagine if we succeed, how satisfying would it be seeing Eliezer’s long face?”
“And those colleagues who belittled and trampled on you daily. They’d be jealous of you!”
Hearing these words made Casey, Shayla, and Bailee’s eyes light up. They envisioned themselves basking in glory after proving everyone wrong.
“So don’t give up yet. Finish your meal then get back contacting clients energetically!”
Darnell clapped his hands together. “If any client proves difficult, I’ll personally step in and help. And all credits go towards your records!”
“Mr. Halford, you’re so kind!”
Shayla and others couldn’t stop cheering. They felt hopeful again while Bailee’s cheeks regained some color too.
Casey even kissed Darnell’s forehead lightly. “Mr. Halford, help me secure one client first.”
With a big smile, Darnell asked, “Sure! Which client? I will handle it for you, even sacrificing myself if needed.”
“Sleeping with socialites, rich ladies, or heiresses, I’m ready for anything.”
Casey playfully hooked her finger while smiling, “Chandler Gregg from the Whiteville Hospital.”
