“Brian?”
Darnell took out his phone and stared at Nick, asking, “Who is Brian? Tell me the truth.”
“Brian is my childhood friend and an executive at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals.” Nick confessed everything to avoid getting hit with a bottle. “I was drinking at the Watering Hole last night when he called me.”
“He said he found a stunning woman at Moonlight Lounge, drunk and looking for company, so I rushed over.”
“Sure enough, I saw her, dazed and constantly flirting with me.”
“She was so beautiful that I couldn’t resist and took her away.”
“I swear I didn’t drug her. Sir, you can’t wrong an innocent man.” Nick’s eyes were filled with tears. “Today’s incident is also a misunderstanding,”
Darnell’s mind raced. An executive at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals? It seemed there was more to the drugging incident.
Seeing Darnell deep in thought, Nick seized the opportunity to cry out loud. “I was wrong! Please spare me this once. If I die, my family will be upset. Please let me go, and I’ll repay your kindness in my next life.”
Darnell smiled. The young master of the Apex really knew how to adapt.
Before Darnell could finish his thoughts, a dozen vans roared up.
“Nick!”
The vans stopped, and the doors opened to reveal burly men, wielding iron rods, far more formidable than Nick’s group.
Among them was a bald man who charged forward with a fire axe.
Nick cried out, “Callum!”
Callum’s eyes flashed with killing intent. Darnell sensed danger and quickly dodged to the side.
Darnell barely avoided the axe as it slammed into the ground in front of him, sending stone chips flying.
This old man was fierce.
Darnell glanced at the bald man, realizing he was no ordinary opponent. He then kicked Nick into the crowd, knocking down seven or eight people.
Taking advantage of the chaos, he kicked two bottles at the men charging at Tia, knocking them down with two loud bangs.
“Tia, go!”
Tia saw the ferocity of their enemies and prepared to retreat. However, Callum had already reached her.
“You’re not going anywhere!”
With a fierce momentum, Tia reflexively threw a punch.
Unexpectedly, Callum didn’t retreat an inch. He roared and sank his arms.
His clothes were torn apart, revealing toned muscles as he took Tia’s punch head-on.
Tia’s fist landed on his chest like a cannonball, but he didn’t budge or show any pain. Instead, Tia groaned as if she’d hit a steel plate, her joints aching terribly. Callum’s muscles flexed.
Tia staggered back a few steps but quickly regained her footing, then lunged forward again.
Tia punched repeatedly like raindrops on Callum’s body with great force.
But after thirteen hits, he remained unfazed, looking disdainfully at Tia’s reddened fingers.
Unable to break through his defense, Tia took advantage of a brief respite to sweep her leg at his neck.
Callum didn’t dodge but grinned wickedly as he clamped her leg between his neck and shoulder.
“Callum! You’re amazing!” Nick and his group cheered excitedly. “Finish her off!”
Tia realized she was in trouble and tried to pull her leg back when Callum reached for her ankle.
“My turn!”
With lightning speed, Callum grabbed her ankle mid-retraction with a powerful grip.
Tia’s face paled. This could be fatal or cause serious injury.
Just as Callum was about to throw Tia away, Darnell appeared before him with a shout and swung a bottle with his left hand.
The bottle shattered on Callum’s bald head without causing him any pain despite the glass shards embedded in his scalp.
“Damn! The Iron Body technique?” Darnell muttered in surprise at Callum’s resilience.
Callum shook off the glass shards and sneered, “You have to work harder!”
Before he could finish boasting, Darnell swung again with a wrench in his right hand.
The half-pound wrench bent on impact, but Callum’s expression changed too.
“It’s really the Iron Body technique! Interesting,” Darnell exclaimed like he’d discovered something new. He struck three more times with the wrench until Callum screamed in pain and jumped up clutching his head.
“You’re dead!”
Even though Callum was a master of Iron Body technique, he was a human being. A human’s head couldn’t withstand such blows. Moreover, Callum was caught off guard mid-sentence.
Callum cursed Darnell inwardly in anguish.
Darnell struck once more, breaking through Callum’s defense.
Seizing the moment, Tia pulled her leg back and delivered a powerful kick that sent Callum flying.
Several more men were knocked down as Callum clutched both his groin and head in agony.
“Tia! Well done!” Darnell threw the wrench aside, scaring Nick’s group into retreating several meters. “Let’s go.”
He quickly got on a motorcycle and revved it up.
The motorcycle spewed black smoke as it swept around, knocking down two burly men before stopping in front of Tia.
After hesitating briefly, Tia jumped onto the back seat and hugged Darnell tightly, clearly aware of how formidable their opponents were.
The motorcycle shot forward instantly, leaving their pursuers behind by several meters. Then the motorcycle thumped over seven or eight people and roared towards a set of stairs.
More than a dozen members of the Apex roared in anger, throwing the iron rods in their hands, trying to knock Darnell and Tia off.
However, Darnell seemed to have eyes in the back of his head, twisting and turning to dodge the incoming rods, then with a roar, he shot up the stairs, knocked over an enemy in his way, and disappeared.
Nick’s mouth gaped open, watching Darnell’s acrobatic escape in disbelief, never expecting him to ride a motorcycle at such a high level.
He then rushed over to Callum with his men. “Callum! Are you okay?”
“I’m fine…” Callum suppressed his anger before asking, “What happened? Who are they? Are they from the Crow or the Concrete Jungle?”
“They’re neither. He’s just nobody,” Nick replied bitterly. “Callum, I have to make him pay!.”
Callum wiped away tears of pain from his eyes. “Absolutely!”
