OLIVIA
“Did you see what just happened between me and Cyril?” I turned towards Kate’s direction to ask her.
I needed her opinion to judge if I was losing my mind.
“I witnessed everything that happened. I am sorry to say this to you, Cyril is mother fucking player. He wasn’t remorseful for his actions,” Kate responded as she walked towards the bar to go grab a bottle of vodka. I followed her immediately.
“Oh, you saw it too?
I was afraid I was imagining things that weren’t well. You don’t have to apologize for what you just said about Cyril. Everyone knows he’s a pain in the ass. I still don’t know why I got married to him when there were better options out of that,” I shed more light on what Kate said.
There was no point defending someone who doesn’t even give a fuck about me.
After everything I’ve witnessed lately, I certainly needed a bit of liquor to cool off.
I wasn’t a staunch advocate for liquor consumption. Cyril made me do it. He has succeeded in making my life a joke.
“If I were you, I would forget about him and move on with my life.
But if you choose to be patient and hope for his return, I won’t stop you. You have the right to make your own decisions either good or bad,” Kate advised me.
It sunk right into my head as I thought about it. She was making sense until she suggested that It wouldn’t be a bad idea if I waited for Cyril to return to me.
“Cyrill mentioned that I should go meet Adrian. Do you think he’s aware that I had sex with Adrian?” I asked again.
I couldn’t stop asking questions.
The presence of Kate was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I won’t have imagined what would have happened if she wasn’t there with me.
Cyril would have turned me into his punching bag.
“Are you kidding me?
He knows nothing. He’s just bluffing
That person is pained. He was just jealous seeing you with Adrian. If he was aware you had sex with Adrian, he wouldn’t even dare to see you leave like that,” Kate assured me as we took the first shot of liquor.
On the verge of taking the second shot, Kate forcefully pulled the glass away from me. “I won’t let you drown yourself because of Cyril. He’s not worth your tears. It’s time you realized that and stop fusing over him,” She advised me.
I tried forcing myself to believe that she was right but deep inside, I was hurting.
My chest was burning, thanks to the liquor. I couldn’t recall the last time I tasted liquor.
My eyes were dizzy,
My deep slumber was calling me while I tried my best to ignore it.
I wasn’t even paying attention to what Kate was saying anymore. It’s more like she’s speaking to herself.
“Hey,” She waved at me.
“Are you sleeping Already?” Kate asked me the moment she noticed I stopped talking to her.
“I just want Cyril.
I want to speak to him,”
I fought back my tears.
“Forget about Cyril.
It’s time you realize that Cyril doesn’t love you. You need to stop forcing yourself over him,”
“Someone like Adrian?”
I belched.
“Hell no!” Kate hurriedly rebuked me.
She also covered her nose with the back of her palm to stop the unpleasant smell from oozing out from my mouth to penetrate her mouth.
I lost the strength to go speak.
I found myself speaking gibberish.
I was gradually becoming insane, and I couldn’t help it.
A call came in on my phone.
I looked at it and discovered it was Adrian.
What a perfect time to call. It’s as though he knew we were discussing him.
“Speak of the devil.
I am not answering the damn phone,”
I hissed and dropped the phone back to the couch.
“Please answer the phone. He might have something important to say to you. Remember, he was there for you in your darkest days,” Kate suggested and reminded me of Adrian’s good deeds.
It was a trap to force me into answering the phone, and it worked.
“Pass me the phone.”
I ordered her. I was too weak to stretch my hands.
The small portion of liquor I had neutralized my strength and ended up rendering me useless.
I am most likely to be beaten to a pulp in such a situation.
“Hello, Adrian.
How are you doing?”
I spoke over the phone after several failed attempts.
“Why are you sounding this way? Are you drunk?” He questioned me after observing how dull I sounded.
“Drunk?
Of course not.
What makes you think I’m perfectly doing great,” I lied when it was damn obvious that I was drenched in liquor.
“Don’t you dare tell me that
Of course, you know what I’m talking about. Where is Cyril? Did he hurt you?” Adrian acted concerned, as though his whole life depended on it.
I haven’t seen someone acting so bothered by someone else’s situation before.
Adrian keeps amusing me with the way he’s taken up my burden as though we are in a relationship.
Perhaps, Cyril might be right when he assumed that Adrian and I were together. I might as well put that into consideration
“Cyril moved out of the house after we fought. Before you start asking, he moved in with Rene. Can I go now?” I flared up.
I was already getting bored with the conversation and couldn’t wait to get off the phone with him.
The only thing that mattered to me was retiring to my bed and waking up to entirely new, fresh ideas again.
The liquor was making me have a migraine.
My head was pounding heavily like the drums of war. It was just a matter of time before I suffered a severe brain injury.
“Cyril moved out?
I am coming right away.
Please hang on,” Adrian ended the call. That was the only thing I heard before the harbinger of deep slumber called me once and I answered.
