Jeffery drove him back to the nearby apartment. Tom took a shower first, then walked into the study. The servant who took care of him knocked and entered, greeted him, and brought him a cup of warm milk.
“Mr. Fritz, please enjoy.”
The servant didn’t dare to disturb him further, although he wished to make some delicious food for him.
“Okay, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
After the servant left, he gently closed the door behind him.
In the study, Tom Fritz didn’t look at his phone again. His messages were usually on silent mode, and he would check them all when he had free time. He logged into his social media accounts and email on the computer, adopting a different mindset as he meticulously went through each email. It was something he needed to do, even though he already knew who had sent the emails.
During his ten hours of rest, he spent four hours reading emails until he finally finished the last unread one. He then opened the final email sent by Bubu, the latest one in all that time. It was an email where she decided to put away her feelings and obsession and say goodbye to him.
She wrote:
“Little Cat, you will never receive my messages again. My feelings for you end here. Little Cat, I truly loved you, but if I can’t find you, see you or touch you, my affection and love for you remain suspended in mid-air. This is also a kind of cruelty to me. These seven years have been a disturbance; I wish you well.”
And she signed it as-Bubu, who has loved you for seven years.
Tom Fritz sighed deeply. He leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and fell into deep thought with a heavy heart. He noted the time when the last email was sent.
During their subsequent interactions, Agnes did not reveal her identity. She probably wanted to completely say goodbye to this obsession. That night in Fritz Manor’s study, while applying medicine to his neck, she must have seen the emails on his computer screen. This explained her unusual emotions at that time.
Tom Fritz was certain that Agnes knew his identity from that moment on. But she never broke the silence about it; what was she worried about?
Tom Fritz pondered with his eyes closed, his brows slightly furrowed. The indoor lights poured down on his deep features. The emotions intertwined in his heart were very complex at this moment. He didn’t know where to place this heavy feeling.
In Arkpool City, at dusk.
The landmark building of Marsh Group gleamed under the sunset’s glow.
In the office of the director of the comics department, Agnes was busy working at her computer. The open door was knocked on; she looked up to see a female colleague smiling at her.
“Agnes, your mother-in-law is downstairs. She asked me to tell you she’s waiting for you after work!”
Agnes was slightly taken aback-Aunt Jane?
“When did you get married? To whom?” The female colleague looked at her with envy and peered inside while holding onto the door frame.
“That lady looks so elegant; she must be from a wealthy family. Stop working and go down; it’s already time to get off work.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Agnes smiled in response but didn’t say much more.
After her colleague left, she began tidying up her desk in preparation to leave work.
Outside the lobby downstairs stood Jane in a long purple dress, tall and elegant. She smiled as she looked inside, waiting for her daughter-in-law to come out. She had come specifically to find Agnes today-not just to meet her but because there were plans ahead.
Knowing it was Mr. Little Cat’s mother, Agnes dared not be negligent and took special care as she quickly grabbed her bag and headed downstairs.
She hurriedly walked out as soon as she exited the elevator.
