The harsh tone was too hurtful, and Charlotte’s tears fell like broken beads. She couldn’t hold back anymore. “Did you think the person who came was Callie?”
Nelson did not stop his stride as he walked out.
Charlotte had never endured such humiliation before. Nelson’s intimacy just now was genuine, but he was only willing to give it to Callie!
Jealousy fermented in her heart. Charlotte bit her lower lip and shouted, “She won’t come! Don’t you know? There’s a rumor that she has signed the divorce agreement!”
Nelson finally stopped at the door, glaring at her with undisguised malice. “Say that again.”
Charlotte trembled at his demeanor but couldn’t take back her words. She lowered her head in silence, not daring to repeat herself.
Nelson was furious and demanded, “I said, say it again!”
“I heard it from others; everyone is saying it!”
In an instant, Nelson rushed forward and grabbed her jaw. “Impossible. She has no reason to sign. What did you do to her?”
Charlotte struggled to breathe under his grip, her face turning red. She spoke slowly, “No one forced her. Don’t you know? Your own mother took the agreement to her. That represents your attitude, doesn’t it?”
Nelson refused to believe it and sneered, “What a joke. No one knows me better than she does. She would never sign anything Lucia brought!”
Hearing Charlotte’s words actually relieved Nelson.
This couldn’t happen. Callie knew Lucia’s nature and wouldn’t act this way towards him.
But he was worried that she might have seen the rumors and lost hope.
Charlotte was disheartened; she hadn’t expected Nelson to trust Callie so much.
“Mr. Oconnor, your news of returning to Ylosea to visit Marilyn during a crisis is all over the place. Do you think she hasn’t seen it?” Charlotte laughed lightly, with a hint of mockery. “For a woman, seeing her husband entangled with someone else is always upsetting.”
She got out of bed calmly. “I won’t tell her about today, but if she finds out through other means one day, what do you think will happen?”
She understood how to manipulate people’s minds and knew Nelson’s weaknesses.
“Mr. Oconnor, Mr. Scott once said something very true: you are always too arrogant and self-righteous.”
As Nelson listened, the fortress in his heart began to waver.
Ylosea.
Callie couldn’t sleep well, plagued by nightmares and drenched in sweat.
“Ah!”
She woke up with a start and saw a strange woman holding a bowl of soup by the bedside. Seeing Callie awake, the woman smiled excitedly. “You’re awake, Miss Marsh.”
Callie shivered, looked around the room’s furnishings, and then at the woman. “Where am I?”
The woman paused. “This is Sky Pavilion. Mr. Scott brought you back.”
So it wasn’t an illusion; Jaquan had indeed taken her away from the Ellison family.
“I’ll go inform Mr. Scott immediately.” The woman put down the bowl quickly. “But Miss Marsh, you’re very weak right now, and your fever hasn’t subsided. You mustn’t move around.”
Callie struggled to breathe and saw her pale face in the mirror.
Her abdomen throbbed with pain.
Soon, steady footsteps approached from outside, accompanied by a voice. “Was it worth it? Miscarriage, car accident, getting drenched in the rain-all for him?”
