Reyna’s POV
“You’re aren’t leaving, Reyna,” John held my hands, his eyes searching through mine.
“But….” I tried to hesitate, but John wouldn’t let me. Every time I looked at him, all I could see is a guy who really cared about me.
“There are no buts, Reyna. You’re staying and that’s final,” He took my hands. His lips came down against mine. It was gentle and soft, and I could feel my heart thump within me.
He pulled away and then his voice came out soft, “I want you to be in the ball room
“But I don’t belong there. I’m not a werewolf,”
“That’s not true, Reyna. You’re one of us. You just… just haven’t found out how to become one yet.”
“But Lord Bernard….”
“Other lords will be present. He’ll not be the only one to decide on how things should be. Besides, my mate will be declared tonight,”
“Is that why you want me to be around?” I could see the look of hope on his eyes. I knew what was going on in his mind. He was probably thinking of the possibility of me being his mate.
“Reyna…” John took a brief pause, like he had run out of what to say. “I don’t know, but I really want you to be my mate.”
I didn’t know what to say. Even if I liked John, considering how nice he had been to me and how much he cared about me, there was something in me that was enough to make me believe that we weren’t meant to be.
Every time we’d kissed, it was blank. There was no thrill, no fire burning within, unlike the feeling with Jake. With Jake, I would always feel like I wanted to explode. The fire that usually ignited within me whenever I kissed Jake was indescribable.
“Promise me you’ll be there, Reyna. Promise me you’ll come around.”
I knew how disappointed he’d be if I told him no, so I had to promise him. “I’ll be there,” I forced out a smile. There was this battle going on within me that I alone understood.
“Thank you so much Reyna,” He leaned in closer, planting another gentle kiss on my lips.
I watched in admiration as he made his way out of my room. Turning to face me one more time, he smiled before shutting the door gently behind him.

“You look so beautiful, so lovely.” Stephanie said, hugging me as we both smiled.
“Thanks, but tell me, don’t you think it’s kinda awkward for me to be there? I mean, everyone who would be attending the ball tonight are proven werewolves unlike me. I hope I don’t make a fool out of myself there,” I just couldn’t hide that feeling of unease that gnawed at me.
“No, that’s not true,” Stephanie placed a reasurring hand on my shoulder. It was the Alpha who asked you to be around, wasn’t he?”
“Yes he did. But I just feel uncomfortable. After what happened with lord Bernard, I just don’t feel like facing any more lords.”
Stephanie smiled, “I understand how you feel, Rey. But you already gave the Alpha your word. Not attending the ball even after promising him you’d be there will really make him feel bad. Besides, see how beautiful you’re looking tonight. I can tell for a fact that you’ll be the most beautiful girl in the ball room tonight.”
attend the ball for reasons unknown to me, I don’t know the reason but I’m gonna be serving tonight so it’ll be my first time in that ballroom.”
Stephanie’s words were reasurring, that I didn’t know when I let out a smile.
“Who gave you the dress?” Stephanie gave me that knowing look. “Wait let me guess. The Alpha did,”
“Oh come on,” I blushed, and we burst into laughter.
“You’re really lucky you know,” Stephanie wouldn’t cease to remind me. She must think I’m lucky that the Alpha seems to love me.
“Thank you,” I smiled, throwing my arms around her. “You’ve really been a friend to me.”
“A friend? I think we’re more like sisters already,” she feigned a serious look.
“Oh my!” I gave her a gentle push. She laughed. “Oh come here, Rey,” she hugged me tight. “You always remind me of my sister,”
I noticed the looks in her eyes the moment we detached. There was something deep within that she wasn’t talking about. It was all written all over her face.
“You miss her so much, don’t you?”
“So much. So very much,” she sighed.

Diane’s POV
I walked into the ballroom, looking around till I found lord Bernard. As I walked over to talk to him, I found him. “You look so beautiful, mistress Diane, what’s your secret?” He asked, kissing the back of my palm as I chuckled.
“I got the looks from my mother, you’re well acquainted with her and you must know that it runs deep in our family.” I said as he laughed out.
“How can I forget something like that? Roseline was beauty personified, and as her daughter, you’ve not disappointed.”
I chuckled once more, surprised that lord Bernard still had those beautiful words with him.
“Where are the others?” I asked. The other lords were supposed to be present already. Even John and Jake were not yet around.
“Lord Urich and lord Felipe are already on their way. Are you nervous?” He asked me.
“Of course not,” I forced out a smile. “I don’t have a reason to, do I?”
“About our last discussion, do not worry,” He said as I smiled evilly and walked back to my seat.
The entrance door creaked open and the brothers walked in. They were breathtakingly handsome. But Jake…. It was obvious he had come to steal the spotlight. He wasn’t the type who loved parties, and seeing him enter the ball room that evening, was enough to convince me that he had something in mind.
“Where are they?” I heard Nene ask.
“Who?”
“The newbies, Stephanie and Reyna.”
“Who cares,” I dismissed her, only to see them walking in with Reyna looking so beautiful.
